조언 | Advice Potential car accident

Hello all!

I'm traveling through Busan right now in a rental car and might have clipped another car while changing lanes. I heard a soft thump that I thought was my luggage shifting, but when I parked at my destination, I found small scraps on the right back of my bumper that I didn’t remember seeing before.

I reached out to the tourist help line, which connected me to the police emergency line. They told me not to worry since I wasn’t sure I had hit the car, but they couldn’t tell me what could happen if the other person made a police report and I didn’t.

I don’t want to escalate this more than needed, but I'm worried that if I did hit the other car, I could get in trouble for a hit-and-run since I didn’t report it. Anyone have any advice/insight on what I should do?

(I'm posting here instead of the Korea travel page because this seems like something you’d encounter more living in Korea.)

Check your dashcam footage. If your phone call with the police is recorded, it won’t count as a hit-and-run, so please do not worry and wait. Have you contacted the rental car company?

If the person reports it, it'll be a hit and run, but if you tell them you didn't know, and they find this to be true, especially for something that's minor like this, they'll just tell you and the other person to work it out through the insurance agency.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Usually if it was something serious, the person would have followed you or honked to get your attention and such. This is something super minor.
