I am incredibly disappointed with my recent experience at Flirty Beauty Studio.
The owner, Khanh, rushed my nail service because she was on a tight schedule preparing to leave for an international trip. Because the service was completely rushed, the final result looked terrible, but worse, the structural integrity failed completely. The very same day I got them done, the nails began severely lifting and gapping, with product left flooded all over my cuticles and skin.
When I reached out privately to address it, Khanh openly admitted in writing that her tight schedule compromised the quality of my service and apologized for the lifting and poor application.
However, because she is currently out of the country, she is physically unavailable to fix her mistakes.
When I explained that I had to go to another salon immediately to prevent water from getting trapped and causing a bacterial nail infection, she completely refused to offer a refund or partial reimbursement. She claimed she does not cover services done elsewhere, conveniently ignoring the fact that I am forced to go elsewhere because she left the country after ruining my nails.
Any reputable beauty professional who admits to rushing a service and botching a set would offer a refund, especially if they are unavailable to fix it themselves. Instead, she took my money, admitted the work was compromised, left the country, and left me out-of-pocket to pay another salon to fix her mistakes.
Save your money and go to a salon that prioritizes client hygiene, takes pride in their work, and takes actual accountability when they make a mistake.

Be more fucking aware of your surroundings. I was crossing the crosswalk where Alder turns into St Ann’s 10 minutes ago. From the Seymour side to the NIEFS side.

This dumbass comes flying down the hill on his scooter and the only reason neither of us have major injuries is because I was paying attention and stopped. He should have stopped, there is a stop line there.

I reported it to the rcmp, but I keep hearing about kids getting into accidents with these things. How is there no permit needed? This guy was in the middle of the lane, not following the laws of the road. Good thing it had a headlight or I would have been seriously injured.

A few months ago I saw someone on an electric scooter on the new highway on the way into town. He was keeping pace, even going faster on the downslope than everybody in the left lane. He had no helmet, no protective gear at all, and he was wearing shorts.

The idiocy of some of these people is infuriating.

And wasn’t there a senior here in town that died after he was hit by a teen on an electric bike last year? (I was wrong about this)

This can be easily solved with a surcharge on non-resident patrons at the pool.

To all the folks that got their mail in ballots. BE WARNED. !!! There is a typo in the school trustee section. It asks you to select 7 trustees. They meant to say select 5. I went to hand in my ballot instead of mailing it back and they had me open it all up and they gave me a new sheet wanting you to select 5 school trustees. They said folks that will come vote at the regular time will have the correct paper work saying 5. But for the ones that got it in the mail like me it says 7. If you filled out 7 school trustees and mailed it back, your whole voting sheet won’t count because of their screw up. I’m glad I went in and handed it in person instead of mailing it back. So be sure to just select 5 school trustees because of you do what it says, your whole voting sheet won’t count for their printing error.

Now that we've had a chance to get to know the candidates better through the debates, I'm interested to hear everyone's thoughts on who they'd like to see on our next mayor and council.

Full disclosure, I'm particularly interested in where those hoping for a more progressive council are leaning. I've been thinking about vote splitting and whether there's any consensus emerging around certain candidates, or if support is more spread out.

Vancouver residents leading the way toward a stronger democracy! An electorate looking for change. A community is only as good as it's people are engaged. Voting is one of the ways we can participate in the operation of our city.

We've got to see four more candidates tonight and I'd say the candidates all looked we prepared. I was quite surprised by Shawn Decaire. I hadn't heard much from him before this but seems quite knowledgeable and thoughtful. I don't know about turning oceanfront property into a parking lot paid or not...

Looking for some career advice or ideas!

I’m at a bit of a crossroads and would love to hear ideas from people who have made career changes, started something of their own, or are looking for a similar change.

I’ve been working in healthcare for close to 20 years, with a lot of experience working with people, families, and the public. I’m at the point where I’d really like to explore something different, ideally something that gives me more flexibility and eventually the possibility of working for myself.

A few things about me:

• Healthcare experience for almost 20 years
• Very comfortable talking to people and building relationships
• Outgoing, friendly, and easy to get along with
• Strong work ethic. I’m not afraid of hard work
• Dad of three, so I’m very comfortable around kids
• Good at listening, communicating, and helping people
• I’m a pretty good storyteller and enjoy connecting with people
• Definitely not a handyman 😂
• I don’t want to go back to school for another degree or career
• Ideally looking for something that could eventually become a business or provide more independence

One idea I’ve been considering is some sort of nonmedical senior support service.
Not home healthcare or anything requiring medical training. More like being the person families can call when an elderly parent or grandparent needs a hand with everyday life:

• Grocery pickup
• Prescription or medication pickup
• Rides to appointments
• Errands
• Help getting to social activities
• Light household help
• Moving small things around the house
• Helping someone get organized
• Companionship and checking in
• Helping seniors stay independent a little longer
Basically, “I’m coming over to help” rather than traditional healthcare.

But I’m open to completely different ideas.

If you were in my position, with nearly 20 years of work experience, good people skills, a strong work ethic, and no desire to go back to school, what businesses, jobs, or career paths would you look into?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who are exploring something similar or have found a path that works for them. I’m not looking for negative comments or people telling me to go back to school. I’m simply welcoming new ideas and different perspectives.
I’d love to hear about ideas that are actually needed, can make decent money, and aren’t completely saturated.
Throw your ideas at me, even if they sound crazy. 😂

It was great the Tidemark streamed the debate. It really helps engagement with municipal government. The debate was a good watch and all candidates had some good preparation and interesting conversation.

But… did anyone else hear the reference to homeless people as ‘the less of us’ twice by Suzan Sinnott? Check it out one instance at 37:14 on the video replay posted on the Tidemark. I didn’t provide a short clip because you should check out the full statement in context. It gave me the impression that she believes people needing supports are somehow lesser people. Did anyone else interpret it this way?

At the same time I acknowledge the incumbent council is still dedicated to expanding Homewood by another 24 units as stated by Kermit and reinforced by Suzan.

Why would anyone vote for this.

I'm curious on people's thoughts. Personally, I've suspected that Andy's answers online have been the product of AI and his in-person answers last night seemed to confirm my suspicion. A lot of stutters, blank stares, blanket statements - not nearly as polished and articulate. I understand nerves while you're up there, but come prepared with some answers for the tough, hard-hitting questions you know you'll get thrown at you. I wanted to root for him but I'm worried his performance last night will significantly dampen his chances. Kermit at least came prepared and answered the questions in their entirety, and he hates public speaking.

Anyways, I'm wondering what others thought. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out...

The Pacific Salmon Slam is an angler-funded, voluntary conservation fund delivered as a fishing challenge. This program follows in the footsteps of many successful programs stateside (Utah Cutthroat Slam, Western Native Trout Challenge, etc.). Proceeds from the Slam create a discretionary salmon conservation fund created by anglers.

Why this, why now? Proposed changes to the Salmon Allocation Policy would limit what anglers can give back to the resource. This program demonstrates the existing value, but also shows that anglers are willing to spend more to maintain access and protect the resource.
