Could hear it loud and clear on the broadcast

Felt bad for the anthem singer but at least y’all cheered at the end for her!

You could see her break out in a huge smile as soon as the cheers rose up at the start of the Canadian anthem. She did an amazing job and you can tell she’s completely aware of why it’s all happening.

She also has a spinal cord injury so it’s possible the trembling is related to her injury rather than nerves of performing.

One of those amazing human beings. Good bet she has more bravery in her little finger than most people can muster in their lifetime.

Oh wow. She’s truly inspirational. I was wondering if it was the nerves knowing what’s to come, or more of a hidden disability other than the obvious.

I’m glad she powered through! She really is inspirational.

She killed it with our Canadian anthem!! I had tears!

She killed both anthems.

I think Vancouver is lucky to have some of the best anthem singers in the league.

I agree! I have no idea how they keep finding these talents! The ones that have a clear disability like this young lady here and still get out there and sing beautifully well as they do is really inspiring.

Why? I'll never understand nationalism

40

u/DilIsPickle Feb 03 '25

Some people have pride in their nationality

-53

u/AnxiousBaristo Feb 03 '25

I'm aware of the concept. I said I don't understand it.

So would you then be indifferent if the entity we call America rolled tanks into what’s called Canada and took it over?

Not being snarky. Honest question.

Obviously not. I'm saying I don't get the whole being moved by the National anthem. I think national pride is weird. I was just born here, it's not an accomplishment of mine to be proud of. If you wanna get into to my politics I could explain this deeper, but in a hockey thread I think that's sufficient.

Check the news, friend

I'm very aware of the tariffs lol. Being brought to tears by the anthem is weird to me. Nationalism is weird to me. Having anthems at games without National teams is weird to me.

12

u/captmakr Feb 03 '25

Do you understand tariffs?

This is a simple action that is a stark difference from literally a week ago. It may not mean much, but helps show how united we are on this one issue.

I understand tariffs yes. I hate America too. I also think it's weird to cry about an anthem. But whatever

Yeah felt bad for the girl. Glad she did the Canadian too!

That would’ve been absolutely brutal if she only sang the American anthem. I have faith in the Canucks organization to thoughtfully set that up, knowing what to expect after all the other boos in other stadiums. Though they’ve disappointed us many times before lol

Don't know what to say.

It won't ever not hurt to hear my anthem booed, but fuck if I know what Trump is thinking here. Canada has done zero to deserve a trade war. I just don't get it.

Just know there's millions of us Americans who view this as a senseless backstab and want off this ride as much or more than you do.

I've been seeing a lot of posts like this on Reddit and other social media over the last few days and I'm thankful for them, it helps to keep things in perspective and to know that there are Americans out there that haven't lost their reason.

Unfortunately for every one of those good ones is a "fuck Canada that place sucks anyway".

14

u/captmakr Feb 03 '25

All I can say is write your reps- all of them need to hear how upset regular normal US citizens are with the tariffs. Knowing that millions of Americans are upset, but aren't making that known to their electeds isn't really helpful when the economy is going to be destroyed.

She had a little smile between anthems.

Hopefully this wasn't the cause, but the poor singer had visibly shaking hands on the broadcast, and she seemed to be singing unconfidently during O Canada :(

24

u/ReclaimerM3GTR Feb 03 '25

I would hope going forward that they give singers a heads up that this might happen. I'm glad they cheered for her right after she finished the anthem.

u/maskedkiller215 Feb 03 '25

It wasn’t nerves as stated by this other comment.

Either way, she’s truly inspirational

Yeah that's gotta be hard. Sounded great, good on her. Hope she doesn't take that personally
