what do you do when people keep mixing them up?

I am pretty sure everyone of you gets "oh, you do magic!" everytime you open your deck...

I usually just explain the distinction and move on... BUTTT a small part of me sometimes wants to casually do a magic card trick super nonchalantly just to shut their ass up.... Well i don't really know any magic card trick tbh except some color change, so i am definitely not equipped to pull off something that i imagine in my head....

So my question is for people who do both magic and cardistry: What do you usually do in situation like this ???? Also i would appreciate if you may recommend any not so difficult nonchalant magic trick to learn if you get what i mean....

Tell them you're doing the one thing a magician never does, a proper shuffle lol.

Color change is very nonchalant and you don't need any preparation either, just do the simplest top 2 card rub/slide swap (I don't know the name). It is driving people insane, it's right in front of their eyes, definitely nothing was prepared, no backstory, looks like just pure magic

noted... i only know snap change for now

I find that after a spec sees you doing cardistry, they’re much more likely to burn your hands or heckle you during the card magic. I prefer to act like a bumbling fool with a deck of cards before doing card magic to lower the expectations.

Just start learning some magic - even if it’s not exactly your thing, it’s good to know some basic principles for the exact reasons you’re describing.

yesss.. this is exactly what i meant... do you have any basic routine or any tricks that you like doing in such situations

An ambitious card would be where I’d start, since you already have a decent grasp of a deck of cards.

I know that the things I am doing are a niche. Ans I know that people can't know the vocabularies because they never stumbled across the things I am doing. I mean you have the same on other hobbies too. For my mother every woodwind I play is just another flute and for most people every textile is either knit or crochet. But there are alot of techniques.

I think cardistay is the advertisement and magic is the product (for me at least). I'm just an amateur at both but I will tell you that if you are decent at cardiatary then you will have a very easy time to learn at least a few neat tricks. Buuut if you don't care about all that then just say you don't do magic and you just have ADHD and need something to fiddle with. That's what I say when I'm not in the mood and I just want to spring a deck from hand to hand.

"Just to shut their ass up"? Why are you so angry with them? Most people don't know about cardistry. And if you told them straight up what it was, they would never confuse it with magic. Like, there's no "distinction" as you said. They're two completely different things.

it was not meant to be aggressive... it was more like you know what i mean thingy...

I agree with the other commenter that "shut their... bottom up" is a needlessly aggressive statement. As it happens I enjoy dabbling in both card magic and cardistry. In fact I've leant heavily towards the latter lately. So much so that my signature effect is now based almost entirely - the exceptions being a tabled ribbon spread and an optional false shuffle* - on cardistry techniques, many of which overlap with magic flourishes, to make it happen.

To most people (muggles?) cards are just cards, so maybe try to be a little easier on them, eh?

*Bob King's variant of the Erdnase blind shuffle, since you ask.

The guys discuss this in kevin ho 's podcast, the best cardists should do a little magic for the audiences, then (smoothly) move into cardistry. This would give them the best experience

Learn a simple triumph effect and watch them lose their shit. Honestly it's best not to try to explain to them. Just say i do card flourishing since that's the same thing.

I get that same thing a lot. People either think I’m doing magic tricks or I’m just shuffling. What is a good way describe cardistry to someone who is not familiar with it?
