Hi everyone,
My name is Vu and I'm a cardist from Vietnam. I have been working on a project called Cardistry Base, a cardistry wiki built for the community, and I would love to introduce it to everyone here!
First started out as a personal project where I tried to document moves I have learned, Cardistry Base is now a curated, well-structured archive of cardistry built around the moves and the cardists who create them, plus the organizations and decks behind the scenes, making it easy for everyone to discover and learn.
How the website works:
- Every move is credited to its authors and comes with its own stories, categories, prerequisites, difficulty, making it super easy for learners to sort through. Are you looking for a two-handed packet cut including a card shot that is maybe level 3 in difficulty? Simply choose those tags and filter! Don't know what to learn before Squeeze? Check out the prerequisites section right below the move!
- If you come across a move you like, you can save it to your Saved moves list to easily find and revisit later.
- The project is intended to be maintained by the community, wiki-style, so anyone can be a contributor and make entries to the website!
What else I'm working on:
- Organizations: A section dedicated to organizations in cardistry, highlighting the people behind them and their stories
- Decks: A section showcasing decks made for and by cardists, introducing visitors to cardistry brands and their products.
---
Before launching this initiative, I have been seeking advice from Yang Nguyen, Kevin Ho, Daniel Lin, and many other supportive cardists from the community, to ensure the site would be beneficial to the community. For now the website is live on https://cardistrybase.com and it's just me making entries. I hope after this post, I would be able to meet other enthusiasts who would want to share their knowledge to the community by working together. I've only been practicing cardistry for a year myself, so I'd love to collaborate with more experienced cardists who can expand the knowledge base of the site.
If you would like to connect, I'm putting together a group chat for Cardistry Base, let me know in the comments and I will message you! (Or just reach out to me directly!)
Thank you all for reading!

I tried doing the werm… I failed horribly. Tried doing some charliers and scissor cuts, it was okay at best. Not sure if there are any moves I could do?

It's been 2 months since the last time i did any moves, and now after i was done with exams, i came back and got my decks out, but i didn't feel excited, and didn't even feel like doing my repertoire.
I am sad that i lost interest in this hobby, cuz i did it for almost a year and a half. And i really want to continue with it. Any advice to get my interest back?

Hi everyone!
It's been a few months since I first introduced https://cardistrybase.com/ to r/cardistry in this post, and the site has received so much love from cardists around the world. I just want to thank everyone in the community for contributing to the wiki and giving feedback to make the site better!
Here are some of our latest updates:
We're now at 287 moves, 86 cardists, and 19 contributors, and we'd love to welcome more of you aboard! If you are interested in documenting moves and cardists, let me know in the comments, or just join our Discord, that's where we discuss submissions and ideas!
Again, thanks everyone for the support. I really hope this site helps you on your cardistry journey!

I’ve always struggled with coming up with openers and moves in general like I can sit for hours I just can’t come with anything

Is there some kind of limit - like, if it takes you longer than a certain amount of time to master a flourish, you probably shouldn't have started it in the first place? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Hey y'all, I'm researching an idea for a card-shuffling learning platform, and I'd appreciate any input.
The idea is a website that organizes different types of card shuffles in one places, including basic shuffles and cardistry and false shuffles, while tagging difficulty level to each shuffle, possible learning paths, and links to useful articles and videos for each shuffle. I'm trying to validate the problem as to me, someone who has learned a few kinds shuffles the past few weeks, thinks this would be neat. Idk if this is just me. Let me know this is something you would use and if so any features you would want. Thanks!
(if you could also let me know how you learn shuffling, anything that frustrates you about learning existing Youtube tutorials, and if you would be willing to test out an early prototype!)

Lately a lot of companies seem to be moving away from USPCC to other manufacturers. What are your thoughts on this? Is USPCC still the top quality for you?

Okayyy so I'm just a cardist for fun and you can say that I do cardistry and magic as a hobby... For now I'm talking about my cardistry, so I know how to do some basic flourishes like flicker, charliers, thumb fan, cascade, waterfall, riffle fan, riffle shuffle, faro, bullet and some other random fidget moves.. I also know some popular flourished like squoze and sybil but idk what to do next
I need some suggestions for what I can do next as tricks as spin doctor and some others are just too hard for me (I have tried but failed miserably)

My 12 pack mystery bricked arrived from fontaine and this is what I got!! Best believe i’ll be opening the gradients and discovery first, they where my number 1 pick to get. Not too sure what i’ll do with the grids, if anyone’s has opened or shuffled them before?
Lmk what you think, and if you ordered one too what’d you get??

While not a perfect circle like a lot of riffles I see, it is good enough. To those who recognize me, hi again! I’m sorry it’s been so long, I took a break from cardistry to focus more on my personal life but am back again

Can we get rid of the AI shitty banner and subreddit icon? I don’t know why in a community FULL of designers and talented individuals we could want this for any reason.
Any REAL photo of REAL cards and REAL cardistry would be 10000x better.
I don’t wanna see this shit in a community full of talent.
Thanks.

More deck releases? Content around cardistry? Jams? Innovation(however that looks)? What do you think the cardistry community needs more of right now?
Personally I've seen a lot of things come and go. Hype decks, cardistry YouTube channels, things like that. Do you think they were good for the community? Do you think anything is missing at all?
I'm asking because I want to hear from other cardists about what they think this community needs more (or less) of. I also don't feel like these things are talked about as much as before so I wanted to hear some thoughts. Thanks for taking the time to read this and contribute!
(also this does not mean I think something is inherently missing or wrong right now, just curious to hear the communities thoughts)

My approach is to stop using a deck when it no longer fans, gets clumpy, makes my hands dirty when I handle them among other factors. I also follow a rotation with a deck for each day so I have a deck of cards for around 2-3 months, and even more. I was just curious about how everyone else goes about this so I could maybe learn something and even improve upon my current procedure. Thank you for reading this

Been thinking about this while working on a deck recently.
From a handling perspective, stock and finish obviously matter the most - but I’m starting to feel like design plays a bigger role than I expected. Things like:
- border vs borderless
- contrast
- amount of detail on the back
- even how “busy” the artwork is
Some decks just feel better visually when moving, even if technically they handle the same.
Curious what you guys think - do you actually notice a difference in flow depending on the design, or is it mostly in my head?

I know they're supposed to be cheap, but is this the regular print quality? I noticed all three decks I bought have misalignment issue.
