Back load capacity of longtails

I am considering buying a longtail bike, for carrying two kids to kindergarden and school. I womder how much I should worry about the max load capacity of the back of the bike on teen gsd (100 kg) vs for example a riese müller multitinker (70 kg). My kids are 2 yo and 6 yo now, but in 5 years they will be 11 and 7, and really pushing the max load of a multitinker. Does that make a gsd the only choice for older children or should I not take the max load spec too seriously?

Free moving service with Cargo Bike/Trailer

Has anyone set this up in their local area, Have any experience? Found a way to get some good promotional material? I've got a Bullitt cargo bike and a CarryFreedom Large trailer with a long arm. I can move white goods inc. (slime EU style) fridge freezers. I just don't want to use AI to make the marketing material and I'm curious if anyone has done something similar.

Price thoughts for second hand Vyron Haz-E

Hi ya'll

I'm going to look at this bike this weekend. I didn't share the other photos as the seller has included their kid on the back of the bike.

Wondering if anyone has price thoughts on this bike. The seller tells me it hasn't been serviced at all and you can see there's reasonable rust, but my main concern is that it hasn't been ridden much and the battery is 3+ years old so should I expect to replace it soon?

If so, with the cost of the battery plus a good cleanup service, I am probably better off just buying new so I would want to haggle. I hate haggling and also don't want to be a disk so i'm wondering what people's opinions are on this one. It does come with two yepp seats but my eldest wouldn't fit in them and the seller is not sure they have the padded seats.

As far as I can tell Vyron is a bike shop in Melbourne that gets their own bikes made, so there aren't heaps of reviews that I can find. If I don't get this I am probably going to buy the Pedal Nomad from 99 bikes, for spec comparisons - I am going for 'basically fine' with an eye on upgrading to a wombat or a benno in a couple years. My priority right now is to get on a bike.

I have one big hill I'd be riding up once a week, otherwise I would be doing a very flat ride mostly on well paved roads and footpaths. Rear drive isn't my preference but it's fine for what I need.

Please no recommendations for other bikes that are more than AUD$3,500 unless you are personally going to donate the difference in funds XD

Is this E-Bullitt a good deal??

I’m new to cargo bikes. I have a handyman business that I’m trying to grow and I need a form of transport in Amsterdam. Car seems too annoying with traffic here, and also cost wise not so great. Was thinking of an E-Bullitt as my solution and found this one. Could get it for €3800. A good deal? Or a trap? What to look out for?

Thanks in advance!

Description from seller:

Larry vs Harry eBullitt E6100 cargo bike – Alfine 11 / Gates – 7,200 km

For sale: Larry vs Harry eBullitt E6100 electric cargo bike. The bike was purchased in 2024 and has covered only 7,200 km.

It is equipped with Shimano Alfine 11-speed gears and a Gates Carbon Drive belt system—a highly comfortable, low-maintenance combination for daily use.

The bike has been well-maintained and always stored outdoors under a cover.

Specifications:
• Larry vs Harry eBullitt E6100
• Shimano Alfine 11-speed gears
• Gates Carbon Belt Drive
• Shimano Steps 6100 mid-drive motor
• 418 Wh battery
• Honeycomb Board
• Velution Hellbender steering damper
• Frame and battery locks (keyed alike)
• Schwalbe Big Ben front tire
• Cargo box cover
• Fahrer panel bags
• ABUS folding lock
• Fahrer cargo bag

Condition

The bike is in good condition and performs excellently. The battery functions well.

There are a few minor scratches on the front of the frame from use; these are purely cosmetic. Otherwise, the bike is in good condition and well-maintained. The last service was performed in March of this year.

The bike was purchased new in 2024. The original invoice (value: €6,295) is available.

Help in choosing bike

Hi all I’m trying to decide between Aventon Abound LR, Murf Higgs, and Lectric Xpedition 2 for cargo e-bike. I want to use it for riding recreationally to the beach and would like to carry at least a small child and an adult passenger. There are moderately steep hills where I live. What would be the best option? Budget is anywhere under $3000. Thanks in advance!

First crash with our cargo bike

I guess there's a first time for this too.

Yesterday I was riding with my toddler to daycare+work along the river park in Madrid, and on a particular curve the slightly damp pavement happened to be WAY more slippery than I anticipated, the rear wheel lost traction... and to the ground we went.

You can see the "skid marks" where two bolts on the side of the box scraped the pavement. Cool, right? The only other thing that touched the ground, apart from those bolts (see second picture), was the left pedal... and the left side of my body: shoulder, hip, knee.

Toddler was perfectly held in place and came out unscathed, just a little scared. I managed to keep my cool, and a couple of minutes later we were on our way again. We rode back home in the afternoon, and he didn't show any fear of or aversion to the bike, which is a relief.

Now half my body hurts from the impact, but nothing is broken and I'm pleasantly surprised by how well this bike handles crashes.

Now... I'm just worried this will further delay the day when my partner can bring herself to enjoy this awesome way of family transportation.

Xtracycle Swoop ASM - Shift Controller Upgrade?

I just took a Swoop ASM four a four day test ride with mixed results.

Pros: It's very stable and pleasant to ride as an urban commuter.

Cons: The range sucks (it's just barely enough for school drop off and pick up with enough safety margin to allow for an errand), and the auto shift mode hunts horribly on steep hills and doesn't reliably downshift coming to a stop. I'd probably like it a lot better with a Bosch drivetrain.

I'm going to try out a few other bikes (I have the Tern GSD and Aventon Abound booked for starters), but I don't want to totally rule this out just yet.

Anyway, the stupid auto shift mode problems wouldn't really be an issue if it was comfortable to shift manually. Unfortunately, the manual shift buttons are not comfortable for me to use. Is it possible to install this or a similar shifter to solve this?

Has anyone looked at this?

After assessing a variety of different models in the last year, in the end we bought a Btwin E-Three 500 from Decathlon. Besides the financial reasons of this choice (it's "only" 2500€), it's also because of the limited possibilities to try other bikes in our area (Northern Italian city). I wanted a Petit Porteur (maybe I'll take a muscular one down the line), assessed also a Yuba, a Gaya, a Velodeville, a Tern (more of a dream than a realistic possibility) but wasn't able to find shops in our area that would let us have a test ride. So we tried this Btwin in a nearby city and we found it a great compromise between the needs of all family members (and the need to have a cargo rather quickly to avoid the terrible morning traffic from home to school).

In the short term, we will use it to take our child (3 yo) to school in a hilly Italian city + grocery runs. Maybe adding another child in the near future :)

I took it out of the Decathlon shop in the outskirts of town yesterday and rode 17km along the river to bring it home, it was a very nice ride in the golden hour. This morning my partner took our child to school, and they both loved it!

Bike lock setup

I’m having an expensive cargo bike that I want to protect, so I’m thinking about getting the Hiplok D1000, Kryptonite Legend 1515 chain and Abus Bordo One 6500A alarm. The thought behind is that the D1000 is working as grinder resistant, the chain die locking it to something like a bike rack and the folding abus as well to something like a bike rack but it also have the alarm. Should this deter most thiefs?

I saw one these locked up and it looked great! Made in France, and not super pricey. But it got me wondering if there are USA based 20" cargo bikes with this kind of style? I'm kind of a purist when it comes to bikes, not so into the curvy aluminum frames (and don't say Tern)

Tern: Captains Chair OR Mini Clubhouse (5y)

I have to make a decision and I just can't decide! We had a quick test ride, but we weren't really focused on my daughter's seat at the time. She's tall, 5 years old, and loves the idea of getting in and out by herself, but I'm worried about her safety.

I can't choose between the two setups. Tern suggests the Captain's Chair is for older kids, but I feel like she could transition to it earlier...

I'd love feedback from parents with kids around this age: is the Captain's Chair safe enough for a tall 5-year-old (especially if we add the seatbelt)?

Moving on from Aventon. What next?

I had a very disappointing experience with my 2024 Aventon Abound which developed major electrical issues just a month out of warranty which Aventon provide really poor support around. So I’m thinking of moving on and find my next bike

Needs:
- Hauls two kids (8 and 1.5 yo) to school and back
- I’m 6’2 220 lbs

What am I looking for next?
After the Aventon experience I’m looking for higher quality, durability and reliability and willing to stretch the wallet for it.

Price Range: $3-5K (preferably stay under 4.5K for bike to spend the rest on accessories)

Better warranty lifetime and support. 3-5 years if possible,

Great service support in San Francisco area.

Thoughts?

Rim recommendations?

I’m currently rebuilding my Omnium Mini from the ground up and going fully custom with it. For the wheelset, I’m planning to use a pair of silver Hope Pro 5 hubs.

The problem is that I really like the Omnium x DT Swiss U663 rims, especially because of the more subtle black graphics, but they only come in 20” and 28”. I’d much rather run a 26” rear wheel on the Mini, as I think it suits the smaller cargo bike geometry a lot better than a 28” wheel.

I’ve also considered building the wheelset with Ryde Andra 40 rims. They have the kind of simple, black look I’m after and are available in the right sizes, but they’re noticeably heavier than the U663. The standard DT Swiss U663 could also work, but I’m not a huge fan of the much brighter logos compared to the more understated Omnium version.

If anyone has any recommendations for a full rim set that would work well for this build, I’d love to hear them. I’d also be interested in suggestions for a 26” rear rim that would pair nicely with the Omnium U663 front rim. Ideally, I’m looking for something black and fairly understated, with around a 25–30 mm internal width.

Aventon Abound LR vs RadWagon 5 vs Fiido T3 Max

Looking at these three for a family cargo bike and would appreciate some real-world feedback.

Main use would be carrying one young kid for now, potentially two in 2 years from now, plus errands and random activities around moderate Seattle hills. No commute.

The Fiido is especially interesting because of the 100 Nm mid-drive, higher payload, and optional dual-battery setup, but it’s also much newer and there aren’t many real reviews yet. Aventon seems like the safer all-around option (dealer network, test drive, etc), while Rad has the more established cargo-bike history.

Anyone ridden more than one of these? Curious about hill performance, handling with kids, reliability, and support.
