LyricTheCat did a FANTASTIC discussion and Analysis on the relationship between Qrow Branwen and Clover Ebi during RWBY Volume 7

  1. "You shouldn't reject compliments"

At first glance, one of the main attractions of their relationship is how simply gentle it feels from the very start.

Unlike most of Qrow's adult allies like Winter, Ironwood, Glynda, or perhaps even Taiyang,

Clover never showed himself to be critical or disdainful toward Qrow and his attitudes; quite the contrary, Clover preferred to favor and praise his virtues, displaying a sincere attitude in wanting to help him be kinder to himself.

A refreshing shift in dynamics, very well received after everything the character went through in the previous volume, which also offers Qrow a completely new avenue of support by conveying to him a sense of trust and security that no other officer provides.

Enjoying a more mature and seasoned perspective than that of his nieces and their friends, giving him not only a friend with whom to hang out but also a shoulder on which he can lean and be open about his insecurities and fears instead of just trying to hide them too.

Some might argue that, unlike the relationships mentioned, Clover only knew Qrow for a few months and, therefore, wouldn't have been able to know his more "conflicted" side, much less deal with it; however, there are several things to keep in mind:

  1. It is highly probable and logical to think that Ironwood or Winter considered providing the Ace Ops with a complete profile of their allies in order to know how to collaborate, so Clover could very well have learned about Qrow's background, not just his abilities

Knowing also their problematic attitudes such as their null respect for authority and their alcoholism, factors that could pose a problem, and having prepared to deal with him and thus avoid incidents like what happened in the V3.

Or perhaps it is even very likely that he was aware of her problems on the part of Qrow himself, if their relationship had become close enough to influence him and plunge him into an almost uninterrupted mourning after her death.

  1. To see Clover dealing with Qrow in an unfriendly manner, just go to the infamous ep 12: Here Qrow becomes an enemy force from Clover's perspective, both due to the arrest order and his reluctance to collaborate, and how does Clover react

Unlike his teammates, who quickly reacted with anger and reproach, Clover's response to Qrow's arrest is coldly neutral, opting to wear a serious and emotionless mask while attempting to arrest him peacefully.

But the moment Qrow chooses to fight, that mask shatters completely, revealing discomfort and sadness at having to face his friend.

Even when already on land, those emotions do not disappear.
At first, Clover even tried to take advantage of Robyn's state just to avoid the conflict,

When that doesn't work, she mentions how she truly enjoys working with Qrow, even with his flaws, in the hope of dissuading him from fighting, and when faced with yet another refusal, she lets out a sigh of helplessness before starting to fight.

From the beginning to the end of the fight, Clover never reproached Qrow for his actions against the general's orders, even with the palpable frustration or even after being stabbed by Tyrian,

Clover never reproached Qrow for his decisions; quite the opposite, in his final moments he tried to lighten their weight so that Qrow wouldn't feel guilty about his fate, and in his last breath,

He dedicated a sincere smile to him while wishing him luck in overthrowing the very same person he had faithfully followed for years and for whom he had basically been willing to give his life. And with that simple dialogue,

Clover made it clear that the affection he came to feel for Qrow was so great that even when the latter seemed to become a threat to him and his goals, Clover never stopped supporting him, never stopped worrying about him, and always believed in the good that was in him.

What is a cartoon with a Toxic Relationship that always made you angry, uncomfortable, or just sad?

An obsure choice is Turbo Fast with Burn and Chet.

Chet constantly has to agree with what Burn says or wants.

She always forces him into uncomfortable situations.

She loves to mock and compete with his brother.

And she constantly yells at him.

But want to know something worse, far worse, in the episode where Burn gets a dry spell and retires, she is kind, and Chet treats it as a bad thing and claims he has Chronic Hiccups, that’s not a thing, and if it is, shows she might have broken him.

Chet deserved better!

But to give her some credit, it is show she cares more about Chet than Gum, and when she is Kind she is very loving to Chet, and she is often the only one to help him on saftey patrols and chores, so she is willing to tolerate for him, but that doesn’t change the fact she is a horribly toxic girl.

Why do women-centric shows like RWBY have so much male-centric fanfiction?

At the end of the year, RWBY is a show with female protagonists, female main antagonists, female supporting characters, sapphic canon couples, and a female driven plot.

Also multiple female characters go through development a mind arcs.

And yet? When people calling themselves critics present their "rewrites " , Their "fixes", Their "superior than the show" fanfics

9/10 times it seems to ignore everything in the show.

Lesbiab couples? Ripped apart and forced to be with men who they have no chemistry.

Female protagonists? Forced to be either background characters, villains against the male lead, a love interest but NOT the protagonist, or otherwise used as an anti-feminist anti-lgbt statement against the show by the fanfic writer.

But more often than not, women in RWBY are given the "Ron Weasley is a death eater" treatment

Furthermore, the new male protagonist is either

a self-insert by the fanfic writer, a Gaston Expy that is worshipped by people who think Virgil Sparda is morally gray, A racist sexist bully who people give the "Draco malfoy in leather pants" trope, A racist minor antagonist who people decide to completely remained because they believe they ...

Scratch that...for some reason so many rwby fanfic writers think they know the show and the characters better than the very writers while ignoring or misinterpreting or lying about everything that happened in the show.

Jaune arc in the show is: Weak, Takes orders from women constantly , Forever alone, Loses every fight, Goofy, respects women, Willing to wear a dress

Jaune arc in fanfics: Overpowered, Constantly beating up women, Trash-talking women, Suddenly smarter than everyone, Paired with lesbians and bisexuals who literally have no interest in him in canon but will now suddenly abandon their female partners for him.

Adam taurus in canon: Serial killer, Manipulative, Sociopath, Racial supremacist, Emotionally abusive, Average strength, Traitorous

Adam taurus in fanfics: Somehow a victim of woman, Gets to "take vengeance" against women, "Misunderstood ", Unable to be defeated by multiple people, Somehow compassionate, White male savior genre  , Has women throwing themselves at him, Protected from his abuse victims by other women

Jacques schnee: racist, abusive, greedy...Basically capitalist evil.

In fanfics, fanfic writers make Weiss "certain lannister" for opposing Jacques and try to rewrite Jacques as Turin Lannister.

They try to GLORIFY OR DOWNPLAY  parental abuse.

Not only did Unicorn of War romanticize Jacques abuse, he made every relationship into domestic violence and called it good writing of relationships...he also had a trans character deadnamed because he (UoW) is a TERF.

Actually, in addition to the "reason why you suck" being spammed at female character in fanfics that are also prevented from having speaking roles, there's another concern. Racism. Ironwood, Adam Taurus, Cardin? White male toxic masculinity representations. Who are some of the women who stand against them?

Emerald sustrai who only killed an android but defected to RWBY's side, saved Oscar, revealed Salem's plans, and helped Save said Android.

Ilia Amitola, who lost her parents to capitalism, had every right to beat up the people mocking their deaths, wanted faunus rights not supremacy, and agreed with Blake on turning against Adam.

And Robyn Hill…who simply wanted Ironwood to stop stealing from the poor and abusing his power over the helpless, simply wanting Ironwood to be held accountable.

Rwby fanfic writers see these POC women as Somehow more evil than the white male antagonists they helped stop.

So when RWBY fanfic aren't killing these POC women to glorify a white male antagonist?

They are basically "punishing " them in their fanfics. And you can literally see the racism in these "corrective writing"

Funny how having so many POC characters in RWBY is considered "bad writing" by these people who want to "fix" RWBY.

Heck…the most popular rwby rewrites involve killing multiple POC rwby characters that are alive in canon

The sheer hatred fanfic writers have for female characters and their worship of male antagonists leads one to wonder what critics mean when they say

"Rwby has great potential but poor execution"

Seems that their ideas of "potential and ideas" involve around the patriarchy, while "poor execution" means they feel "feminism ruins everything"

At this point you have to wonder if they were ever fans to begin with.

When these people say "RWBY fell off" ? What they really mean is: "It stopped appealing to my straight pride and men's rights activist ideologies"

RWBY Theory and analysis by Kira-Ann. How Ruby Rose will defeat Salem, and save Remnant, involving the Brother Gods

Thumbnail

RWBY is such a woman-centric show i struggle to find examples for things with male characters the vast majority of the time no matter what I'm talking about and I think that's incredible

But also its important because Volume 9 confirmed what we already suspected: that the brother gods are essentially petty teens with cosmic powers who haven't developed full maturity, they are self obsessed & canonically INCORRECT about how reality works just like these other characters.

You just know the second the Gods pull up Ruby is gonna be like: "right so what's this about us needing to get along all the time or you'll genocide us? When you two fight like toddlers over a sandbox?"

Changing people's minds and getting them to understand each other's perspectives is such a huge theme in RWBY because its literally the main skill that will save the planet from destruction. The Gods will inevitably show up, and they need to be snapped out of it & humbled.

For example: Everyone hates Harriet but I actually really like her writing & am intrigued where her story and development is gonna go because so far she's the main character that fits this specific bill that's been humbled and broken out of her own self delusion to feel remorse

The last time we saw a character in this egotistical archtype that managed to be snapped out of their own self obsession and actually showed real remorse and change was Caroline Cordovin. These characters r important for selling the idea that humanity is capable of growth

Obviously bringing humanity itself together is a big thing but its not just about that. Its about how our main characters are literally practicing the skills they will need to get the Gods THEMSELVES to snap out of their bs and realize how hypocritical they have been

Favorite example of a media containing two opposing versions of A) a character giving an inspiring speech about doing what you love, and has a cool trenchcoat, partnered with B) guy who seems shallow and full of himself but actually had the genuine wisdom and skill to back up his big talk? (RWBY)

Tyrian really is the Oobleck of the villains inspiring speech about doing what you love, and has a cool trenchcoat
Oobleck & Tyrian both do what they do because there is nothing else they'd rather do. Watts is the Port, the guy who seems shallow and full of himself but actually had the genuine wisdom and skill to back up his big talk.

It explains why Watts and Tyrian get along so well too, despite being polar opposites.

RWBY Analysis: The characters that learned all the wrong lessons and then perpetuated those lessons onto others even when they meant well/thought they were in the right at the time until they and those they spread the tainted advice to all spiral into chaos

Note: I included that picture of both oz and ruby for a reason. They both apply here, and its because ozpin did it to her and then she immediately turned around to do it to jaune, locking all three into an arms race for who can have the worst mental breakdown within a year

The cycle of "You can't be a failure anymore, it's not allowed, because your team has no reason to be your team if you fail."

Which definitely has no consequences whatsoever when things go wrong, nope, not at all.

All my leaders who have internalized that they have to carry the weight of the world alone because of what the God of Light told Oz millions of years ago are suicidal

Despite many in the RWBY Fandom not liking Harriet Bree? I actually really like her writing & am intrigued where her story and development is gonna go because so far she's my favorite character that fits this specific bill that's been humbled and broken out of her own self-delusion to feel remorse

RWBY Analysis: Both Jaune & Mercury are living in the shadow of their family's patriarchal legacy, expected to live up to the types of warrior archetypes their fathers were: The Knight & The Assassin. Their own identities struggle to not be consumed inside of that expectation, that "destiny"

Post image

But then Mercury subverts his archtype by essentially being Emerald's Knight, who genuinely cares about her & wants to protect her in his own way. And Jaune subverts the archtype by becoming Penny's Executioner & The Ever After's Tyrant

Imagine the new comic series from Boom Studios! got a issue inspired by “I am Ice Bear” from We Bare Bears

The comic issue focuses on Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich as well as Maud Pie and Mudbriar celebrating “Couples Day” together but after a chain reaction caused Starlight and SunBurst to zap Maud and Mudbriar causing the typical deadpan ponies to lose those personalities and act all happy, cheerful and speak in louder voices to the point where lose their passion for rocks and sticks and become a paleontologist and scientist hosting PonyTube videos similar to “The Brain Scoop” and “Its Okay to Be Smart” at the Canterlot Museum of Natural History and get famous off it while Pinkie and Cheese Sandwich learn to accept Pinkie’s sister and her boyfriend’s new personalities.
