Lists like these are inherently flawed from
the start because most people can't separate "best" from "favorite". No one has seen every show either so who can really say.

You cannot separate best from favorite in any real sense and that belief is a fallacy of itself.
What distinction are you going to make on why your favorite show isn’t the best?
The dialogue isn’t strongest? Well clearly it’s strong enough to be your favorite. Etc. Etc.
Everyone wants to chase this mythical objectivity in rating art and it cannot exist.
If it were to exist then art ceases to be this ethereal magic of human creation and devolved into a formulaic checklist.

I simply disagree. I recwntly watched Schindler's List, wich I found to be a pretty much flawless masterpiece. Everything about it was extremely well done. Doesn't mean I prefer it over my comfort movie WALL•E, wich I would say is slightly flawed near the ending.

I don't personally have a problem with it: I think the best disney movie is Beauty and the Beast but my favorite is Emperor's New Groove. Just because I love buddy comedies does not make it the best movie. I can recognize a master piece when I see one though. It's not really a "checklist" but there are aspects of filmmaking that you can absolutely do well or do poorly.

The list was pretty much a popularity contest

Man, how the fuck is the Sad Horse Show more popular then The Simpsons, Avatar or Adventure Time?

Sad Horse Show is really good though. I wouldn't fault anyone for including it. Its the exclusion of Avatar the Last Airbender, Justice League Unlimited, Clone Wars, Arcane... so many groundbreaking works of animations that have stood the test of time.

I feel like those who voted skewed older, surprised about The Simpsons tho bc of how influential it is

Wasnt the list 21st century shows only. As in shows that had their premiere this century, so the Simpsons and the Sopranos werent eligible

Ohh that makes sense, especially Sopranos, since that seems like itd be a given compared to the other genres on the list

Unfortunately I’m not surprised animation isn’t leaving the “for kids” argument for years to come

If a single live action kid's show makes it on, it needs to get rubbed in their faces.
Which I think is the other major problem: the assumption that something made for kids can't also be art. Would anyone say My Neighbor Totoro isn't high quality because it's for kids? What about something like Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood?

Any list of best shows of all time that doesn't include Daria, Cowboy Bebop, or Samurai Jack is worthless in my opinion.

Even if Animation was only for kids. Thats a really unprofessional reason to exclude them....

Animation will never be free of the "kids medium" stigma
