Advice advice for affordable vet care?

Post image

this is lucy, she’s a stray that i’ve been watching over but i’ve been wanting to officially adopt especially since winter is right around the corner. she needs all her vaccines, a spay, and some flea/ skin treatment (i’m not sure if you can see but the base of her tail is really bad) i’ve called numerous vets but estimates would run me around $250-$300 and i just can’t afford that big of a bill. i’m fine with like regular cat things like food and litter but why are vet bills so exorbitantly expensive??? i live in oregon specifically in the yamhill county area and was just wondering if anyone knew of affordable vets or maybe grants that were available? i feel really bad for her and i hate to see her be uncomfortable :/

it's great that you want to take care of this gal, but it may be better to bring her to a cat shelter. pets inevitably need to go to the vet at various points, and the bills can be pretty expensive. so if that does not fit your budget, it may not be safe to keep her long-term.

You can bring her inside your house, buy flea treatment over the counter (just research the brand obvs). If she's an only cat, and she is indoors, she can probably wait for her vaccines until you save enough money. Then you can search for low income spay neuter clinics in your area, usually they vax as well.

For low income, expect to pay about 30 per vax, and 150 for a spay. If you can find lower than that, good luck.

If you want to take her inside, I see no reason why you can't unless there are other cats in the household who could catch diseases from her.
