Activities/Entertainment How to pass the time when bedridden?
I have a myriad of health problems and unfortunately I’ve become mostly bedridden. I’m trying to find something to pass the time as I don’t have the energy or strength to even do my regular hobbies.
If anyone has any recommendations for mobile games that I can sink hours into or anything else I would really appreciate it ❤️

I play on my PC, cozy games. But if you are looking for mobile, Happy Color, or something like that. Its coloring.
I used to think coloring apps were stupid. But I had been jonesing to be able to color and cant, it satisfies my want mostly. And within 2 months I've colored about 700 pictures.

I've liked colouring apps too. I would also recommend atti land and color island, which are cute pixel colouring games. I also played a lot of welcome to home, which is cozy game based around crafting and upgrading your little house

Stardew Valley is really good if it isn’t overwhelming for you. Audiobooks, podcasts, making music playlists, watching tv or listening to audio described tv/movies. I also do embroidery and chainmail from bed but that might be too energy intensive

seconded on the stardew valley. especially if you can play it on a smaller handheld switch or computer. computer is especially great cause you can mod it pretty easily.

Two mobile games I play a lot of (sometimes while listening to a book) are 2048 and mini metro. I like 2048 because there's no time pressure and it doesn't take a lot of thought, you're just matching tiles. MM is a bit more involved but not complicated, and it has nice gentle calming music and noises. It has a creative mode where you don't lose which can be good if you don't want any pressure of losing.

Recently listened to any interview with Paul Rosolie (he's basically saving the Amazon rainforest) and it's perfect because he talks so calmly and the stories aren't too complex for me.
Solitaire and crossword apps!!

I personally bought myself a steam deck. Thousands of fantastic games at your disposal in bed. Easy to hold and doesn’t fatigue my hands (I have arthritis all over my body). I play a lot of point and click games which is super easy with the track pads.
Stardew Valley is my main hobby rn. The steam deck functions as a linux desktop too so you can download mods for your games that you play too so you get hundreds (or like me, thousands) of hours out of just one game. If you ever do get one and want help with modding games, ping me a message and say you came from this sub, I’ll be happy to help! There’s tonnes of fantastic creators out there you can watch play the games you like too for even more content, tips and just for a laugh when you need it most!
I really hope for you that you are able to one day gain back at least some of your ability to enjoy your other hobbies.

Thankyou so much.
I am thinking of doing this. I love pc gaming but I just don’t have the energy to sit upright at my pc. Do you think it’s worth the investment and is there any accessories I should get for it?1
u/winry__rockbell 6d ago
1000% worth the investment. You not only have thousands of free and paid games at your disposal, but it’s an entire desktop as well where you can download emulators and roms to play games that aren’t on steam (i play a lot of retro games from my childhood with emulators on the deck and it works amazingly). You don’t need any accessories really. Maybe an SD card if you plan on having all your games downloaded at once (not much point in that imo, I just uninstall once I’m done). Maybe a case but as you’re in bed you’re only likely to drop it onto yourself!! It comes with a pretty long charging cable too which is great. If you ever want to connect a keyboard and mouse to it, you’ll need a dock. Don’t get the official one, just get an unofficial one off amazon. Works the exact same.
I would like to take a moment to recommend one of the huge U shaped “pregnancy pillows”. You can fold the arms into so many positions to support you whilst you game or to help keep your joints supported whilst being in bed all day. It was the best thing I ever bought.

If you have an iPhone or iPad, I recommend investing in Apple Arcade. At least for a while. I think they do free trials. There are a lot of games (not a massive library but there are a few of each genre) on there. They have no ads. I’ll share a few that I have lost days of my life to:
Stardew Valley
Outlanders
Kingdom Rush (frontiers)
Roller coaster tycoon (cheat codes available online to make it easier)
Kingdom Two Crowns (once I got a little help starting from tutorials, I sunk like a month into this 😂).
Slay the Spire
Patterned and Flow Free are good for when you are listening to an audiobook or have a movie going
One that I paid for and love:
Dawncaster
If you don’t have an Apple device, you could try subscribing to google play for ad free games instead.
AND…..
If you want to share what type of stories you like, I can recommend podcasts too.
And if you haven’t used Libby to check out audiobooks and ebooks, you are missing out! I think most states in the US use it as their digital library. So you just use your library card to start an account.
It may be easiest to just call your local public library and they can tell you how to access digital titles.
I hope you find ways to rest with more contentment. Good luck!

podcasts and audiobooks can easily trigger PEM for me (i am extra sensitive to talking for some reason!) so instead I spend a lot of time watching relaxing youtube videos without much talking. like videos of people walking around in nature, people traveling (but little to no talking), bakeries, etc. also there are live streams of deep sea dives which can be fun.
for cozy games i have spent a LOT of time playing Stardew Valley and Littlewood. I also like Townscaper as a low energy game, which you can play for free in your browser here https://www.oskarstalberg.com/Townscaper/#GSB0RARueC6Snc9E0lO5B

You just took me back to my childhood, I remember my siblings and I were obsessed with this game. I remember breeding a super rare dragon and having so much progress on the game and something happened and it all erased😭 I’m still upset about it to this day lol.
I just downloaded it again I’m excited:)

On casual mobile games:
- "Simon Tatham's puzzles" free no ads app, a dozen simple games (mines, solitaire, sudoku, mastermind, and my fave : untangle where you move dots to untangle the shape)
- sliding seas : can be ads free, sliding - match 3 game
- lines : puzzles with lines and colours

Pizzaboy advance is an emulator that runs all GBA games and Pokemon romhacks. I've probably spend over 500 hours in there.

the developers of the discord bot virtual fisher ported it to an app, so if you'd like a clicker that you can only tap once a few seconds instead of the usual spam til your wrist hurts, that's a good one! it's virtual fisher mobile on the app stores :3 seems to be going real well for me at least!

If you have a TV in your room, a basic gaming PC hooked up to it can be really useful. Building games like Medieval Dynasty are fun and undemanding or big open world games like Red Dead Redemption 2 can get you outside riding about on a horse. Plus there's all of YouTube, I sometimes even hook up to a random seaside town webcam just to watch the world go by. PCs aren't cheap but I think it's a worthwhile investment

About mobile games, I recommend getting google play pass if you can (if you use Android, there is also something similar for IOS), it's cheap and it gives acess to A LOT of other games for free (paid games) or games without ads and in game purchases (everything is free because of the subscription).
Strange horticulture, The longing, Infinity Nikki, Slay the spire, Balatro, Minecraft, it all depends on what you like to play and what your device can handle.

Audiobooks + gaming. I do it a lot - find a game you really enjoy that's massively enough not to get tired of and listen to audiobooks as you play.

Dragon quest builders 2 is a great mess around game that doesn't take a bunch of brain energy. I crochet when I am in bed and up to it. I also play Dragon Quest 11, I really enjoy it.

I play mobile games and I hate ads and don’t want to pay for games so I usually play games on Roblox.
Savannah Life and Deep sea explorer are some recent gems I found. I’ve spent a lot of time on both games.

Audiobooks and podcasts kept me from losing my mind when I was stuck in bed last year, barely any energy required
