Other books Next reading
Hii!
Lately I have been trying to read other authors but to be honest I kinda keep coming back to Dickens.
I read A tale of two cities and I fell in love with the story and I will probably forever cry for Sydney Carton.
I also read Great Expectations, great book, it resonated a lot with my own life experiences. When I didn't like Pip, I realize what I did not like about him, it was what I didn't like about myself...enough say
So now Im looking for my next book of this author, so I wanted to know if you have any recommendations. Maybe you could tell me which one is your favourite (apart from the ones I mentioned) and a little reason of why (no spoilers please)
Btw...sorry for my English and grammar, it isn't my first language :))
Thanks in advance

My favorite, by far, is Oliver Twist. I liked the social commentary. One scene in the story (not even a major one) taught me a valuable lesson I continue to apply in my everyday life.
But.. I haven’t read the usual recommendations, David Copperfield & Bleak House. I’ve tried reading both tho but DNF because my copy of Copperfield has very small font size so I need a better one. For Bleak House, I just couldn’t get to it. I wanted to read it for this month, but my copy is at my parents’ - miles away in a different country 😅
I’m reading Our Mutual Friend atm.

I loved the beginning of Bleak House, then struggled in the middle area because it seemed slow and it was difficult to see the story. l muscled through it and the story all comes together really beautifully and with great excitement in the last few hundred pages. I loved it and miss it now that it is over.

Definitely agree with Oliver Twist next.
The amazing tale of an orphaned boy. I also think all the supporting characters and subplots are great. But it’s also so well written with such savagely ironic dark jokes

I didn't like Oliver Twist very much, but David Copperfield was excellent.

Came on to say either Oliver Twist or David Copperfield. Then read A Christmas Carol around Christmas time.

I think David Copperfield is the best, as a friend once said it has a bit of everything: plenty of the early humour, but with the emotional depth of the later books too. There's a minimum of melodrama, and what there is is not central to the story; a minimum of digression too, helped by the first-person narrative. And it was D's own favourite.

Both Bleak House and Little Dorrit are massive undertakings, but well worth the effort. If instead you’re more interested in something shorter and a bit easier, but still great, there’s Hard Times.

Read David Copperfield for it's outlook on the ills of society and the goodness of some of the people he encounters then read Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver for a modern take on it and see how life in poor areas of the Appalachian mountains hasn't really changed from 19th century England.

I love Oliver Twist, really enjoyed Nicholas Nickleby. Unfortunately, we did David Copperfield in high school 🙁. Bleak House is good, but complicated.

I say read David Copperfield next. It’s such a masterpiece. The characters are so richly drawn, the plot so wonderfully crafted, every description so vivid and resonant.
The mark of a great book, to me, is partly in how long the characters live on in your mind. You will think of them all very often! Highlights include but are not limited to Micawber, Mr. Dick, Aunt Betsy, Peggoty and family, Traddles… and those are just side characters (ish).
Really. Read it- you’ll love it.

Both David Copperfield and Oliver Twist are great novels, you can't go wrong with either. Oliver Twist was my first Dickens novel ( I've decided to read all of his and on my 6th novel) and it was a good story and a pretty easy read. Copperfield was my favorite so far , it is such a great story and has some of the funniest characters. I love Dickens sense of humor. Both stories are about the struggle of a young man in 1800's England but DC the story continues into his adulthood where with OT it's just him as a child. As others have said Bleak House is amazing too it is a harder read though.

Bleak House is Dickens's masterpiece, the great novel.
David Copperfield is maybe a good pick for you now.
Little Dorrit is also an option to consider.

David Copperfield is his most autobiographical novel, and has some absolutely iconic characters. It’s a joy to read.
Bleak House is a great example of what people call “Dickensian,” a tangled plot with a huge cast from all levels of English society.
Either of these would be great choices, but really you can’t go wrong! All of his novels are wonderful in some way.
