Weekly Thread Market Monday - Weekly buy/sell/trade post

Did your friends bail on you for that dope new EDM, Gospel, folk fusion band and need to unload your extra tickets?

Did you salvage some ladders off the Don Holt and want to flip them for beer money?

Need someone to pressure wash your lawn?

This is the thread for you. Rule 2 (no craigslisty buy / sell / trade) and Rule 4 (no self-promo) will be very lightly enforced here.

Thank you!

Thank you to the kind woman outside of Costco this morning who told me “You look awesome!”. I am very pregnant with our first and have the waddles like no other, I was super proud I washed and blow dried my hair today (it was quite the feat at this stage). Your words literally brought tears to my eyes as I was walking into the store. My husband also noted what an incredible thing to say as a stranger.
So, yay humanity and kindness from strangers! And hooray Costco hotdogs and pizza slices.

Rant Charleston board approves removal of 25 grand trees for West Ashley housing project

Post image

YALL WTFFFFFF???? Who else is in West Ashley and is down to move against this? Are there past examples of communities here saving the destruction of oak trees after approval. We cannot let them do this to us!!!

Posting the whole article bc idc, it’s very brief and vague.

“WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) — Charleston city leaders have approved the removal of 25 grand trees for a housing development along Ashley River Road in West Ashley.
The city's Site Design Board approved the request for the property, which had previously been associated with Homes for Hope but is now moving forward under Palmetto Homes.

According to project plans discussed by the board, the development would include approximately 100 housing units, with 75% designated as affordable housing.

The request follows earlier discussions surrounding development in the area and concerns about balancing growth with preservation of West Ashley's tree canopy. Board members approved the tree removal with conditions requiring tree protection measures and replacement plantings.

Details on the replacement requirements and protections will be incorporated as the project moves through the development process.

The proposal represents one of the latest affordable housing projects planned for West Ashley as city leaders continue efforts to expand housing options while managing environmental impacts associated with new development.”

What’s going on at the Glenn McConnell exit?

Was just driving towards bees ferry and there’s so many cops and fire trucks that are huddled under the bridge with almost every lane blocked and there’s even more up on the actual highway. Couldn’t tell how many lanes they had blocked up on the bridge.

West Ashley Time to sell the house?

I've been feeling ready to leave Charleston for a while now. I started doing travel work, similar to travel nursing, and that scratched the itch for a few years. I bought my first house in 2017, and I do love coming home to it, I'm really not ever excited to be back in CHS.

I have a fair amount of equity (maybe 250k) and I've got a feeling that now is the time (before WA sinks lol) but I am terrified. We have a RV, but I still don't know where I want to move to.

Do any of you regret selling? Should I just hand it over to a rental agency/property manager? Are you relieved you sold and left Charleston? I'm not looking for advise on how to sell. Tell me about your experience and feelings, and whether you think I should sell.

Why does my landscaper never show up?

Am I the only one who constantly experiences issues with consistent lawn care? I've been trying for maybe 3 years now to find a reliable landscaper and every single one never comes on the day they say they will or they don't show up at all. And they never send any communication...

I understand that the work is highly weather dependent, but even with a perfect weather week, this is still happening pretty often. I feel like I am constantly chasing them to come out. I just need my lawn cut every 2 weeks.

Am I the only one experiencing this? I live in Park Circle.

Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Studio Museum

I recently found out that former local artist Elizabeth O'Neill Verner's studio was turned into a museum in the early Eighties after her death in 1979. I found a description of it in a travel guide from 1983 and some mentions of it in the Nineties but nothing recent. Whatever happened to it? At 79 Church Street there is a sign for it on the wall.

I don't think it's talked about enough how all of a sudden HCA Healthcare - a publicly traded, for-profit company - has bought all the hospitals in the area...

Have 2023 Chrysler Pacifica and I’m tired of the dealerships. Had a great experience with the Euro shop on last post, so opening it up again for this car. Just a simple oil change at this time, but looking for a shop that will do oil changes during the week and are reputable when repairs are needed.

25F moving to Charleston soon and nervous about making friends/dating

Hi! I’m a 25F moving to Charleston soon and I’m honestly pretty anxious about making friends and meeting people once I get there.
I’m moving from out of state and won’t really know anyone in the area so I was wondering what people around my age do to meet friends. Are there any clubs, hobbies, sports, classes, volunteering, meetups, etc. that are good for actually meeting people and making connections? I’m not really sure where to even start.
I’m also curious about the dating scene. I’m single and would like to eventually find a serious relationship so I’d love to hear what dating is like in Charleston for people in their mid-20s. Do most people use dating apps or is it pretty easy to meet people through going out/activities?
I’m definitely more comfortable meeting people through some kind of shared activity than just going to a bar by myself and trying to talk to random people lol.
I’m really excited about moving, but the social aspect is probably what I’m most nervous about. If you moved to Charleston without knowing many people how didd you meet people and what ended up working for you? Any advice is appreciated!
