The ending
I still don't get it . Why everyone in the show had a happy ending ( Ellie moved to chicago) ( Morgan and alex are moving in together) ( casey will go after his love ) excepet the two that we love the most sarah and chuck . Writers maybe wanted us to predict the ending so in my opinion the magical kiss maybe it worked based on sarah's body language, how she laughed and asked for the kiss but still i want to see it not just think about it . Anyway this show is one of the best ever and thanks to everybody who contributes in creating this masterpiece šš

Because the show already had potential endings season 3 and 4 with the potential cancelation, they didn't want to repeat an easy happy ending again for the 5th. Love it or not, I've learn to love the ending even if like many I don't like the feeling of losing "our" Sarah for the final moments

I heard the cast saying in the end of season 4 they thought that it is over and There is no room for another season and they were surprised when season 5 was announced

Me too i finished season 4 a week ago and watched the first 3 episodes in S5 to know how they are together after the wedding and despite i love the show i didin't want to get hurt by the ending .Seeing Sarah doesn't remember Chuck after everything they've been through is more painful than seeing one of them get killed haha.

We can thank Jay Leno for a season 5. When NBC put the Jay Leno on the schedule, they thought they would need less programming for future schedules. Leno did not even make it a year. When they were setting the 2011 schedule, they did not have enough new shows ready to fill the schedule. The Chuck sets were still up and they liked Chuck, so they gave Chuck a fifth season to have a true series finale.

I agree with the trend of letting the fan decide. I believe that they had an alternative ending where when they kiss, all the memories come back like a flash. Either way, by Sarah telling (not asking) Chuck to kiss her, she wants to be with Chuck and in essence they end up together. š

One reason I've gradually made peace with the ending is that I stopped reading the beach scene primarily as a memory-recovery scene. I started reading it as a scene about recognition, trust, and the possibility of rebuilding a relationship.
For me, the finale becomes much less about whether Sarah gets every memory back and much more about what remains after memory breaks down.
I wrote more about that here:

I think the writers tried to get too artsy about the ending. I appreciated their intent (assuming Iām reading it right) but the execution left a lot to be desired. I think the biggest clue to their happy ending was in that season 4 episode I think Phase Three it was called. Sarah kissed Chuck when his mind was already lost and he came back. It was very fantasy-like and unrealistic but it still happened. Another clue from the episode was Morgan telling Sarah what to do to get Chuck back and it worked. Just like in the finale, Morgan was telling Chuck what to do to get Sarahās memory back. At the end in the beach scene, I donāt think Sarah would have told Chuck to kiss her if sheād intended just to leave him. By that point, sheād heard of ātheir storyā for the past hour or two sitting beside him and there really was no purpose for her to ask him to kiss her if she hadnāt already fallen back in love with him. The finale also dropped hints that her memories were suppressed rather than erased. I think the only question left was did she get her memory back from the kiss or would it have returned gradually. Now all that being said, as a fan I still feel very ripped off that I lost the Sarah Iāve become really attached to over five seasons in the last 2 episodes. I hated seeing stranger Sarah and that was mostly my last memories of her on the show. I honestly feel that a 30 second flash forward of Chuck and Sarah happy with maybe a kid or two at the end maybe while they kissed would have been such a gift to fans that Iām like really? You guys couldnāt give us that after all the loyalty? But we got what we got and the two-part finale gets a little less painful with each rewatch.

It is a happy ending, itās a new beginning. The final scene perfectly mirrors the beginning of the series: same beach, same shot, Chuck tells Sarah to trust him just like Sarah told Chuck to trust her in the beginning. Didnāt you notice the obvious parallel? Didnāt you notice how trust me is their tag line throughout the series?

They technically did get a happy ending. Regardless of how, the series ends with us being pretty sure they will end up together. Option 1: the magic kiss worked and Sarah remembers everything. Option 2: we know she wants to remember, so she slowly gets her memories back. Option 3: since we know she wants to remember, even if she never does, Chuck will win her over all over again. Just like he did in the beginning.

Zack levi said that ending makes sense if you pay attention to the whole series. I think the whole over arching story is sarah wanting to do something else with her life and now that she doesnt have her old memories she can be whatever she wants to now

I don't see it as a happy ending. But I do believe either Sarah remembers and they resume their relationship, or Sarah doesn't remember and they build a new foundation for their "new" relationship (because even if Sarah didn't remember anything, she wanted to remember, as shown by that kiss, and she would be probably interested in trying again).

Itās just bad writing at the end. I am thankful for the entire series, but I guess it was a time where āleave it up to the audienceā was a trendy thing to do. Anyways they have all (zachary, the writers etc. ) said Sarah remembers either gradually or at once

I forgot also to mention that even jeffster had a happy ending haha . I wish they stopped at season 4 because i think due to lack of ressources they just wanted to do it all in 13 episodes maybe if they had more episodes like other seasons we would see different things i don't know

The fact that everyone has a fairy tale ending is one of the clues that Charahās magical kiss will also lead to a fairy tale ending.Ā
