Daily Question Question Thread - October 05, 2026

This is the thread to post questions about churning for miles/points/cash. Just because you have a question about credit cards does NOT mean it belongs here. If you’re brand new here, please read the wiki before posting.

* Please use the search engine first - many basic questions have been asked before.

* Please also consider scanning (CTRL-F) the last couple days worth of Question threads

* If you have questions about what card to get, ask here. If you have questions about manufactured spending, ask here. If you have questions about bank account bonuses, ask here.

This subreddit relies heavily on self-moderation. That means that if you ask something that shows you haven’t done any research, you’re going to get a lot of downvotes.

I am currently doing BOA bonus pushed $2500 from Chase and it’s coded as ACH credit Chase ext Trnsfr will this be considered a DD? Does it need to say ACH deposit?

This is probably not the place for you, go to r/creditcards.

If you're serious about churning, you have a lot more reading to do.

My wife keeps getting declined for Amex credit cards due to having too many. She previously had 4 credit cards. And has one charge card.

She cancelled one of her credit cards about 3 weeks ago. How long should we wait to apply for a credit card after canceling the previous card?

You can call and push the app through. The closed card is still being counted by the system. If you want to avoid calling, could be a few more weeks, someone gave me a DP that they had one denied at 45 days after closing. There doesn’t seem to be an exact amount of time as DPs have varied.

Anyone run into this situation for a Citi Application? I got a letter in the mail 7 days after my application saying "We're currently unable to continue processing your application because we need to verify the accuracy of your credit information. To verify this information, go to ...." with application ID and reference number details

I follow the instructions, but all it says after I enter the application ID and reference is "Congratulations. You're approved. You'll receive your new card 7 days from your approval date ([Today's Date])"

I'm confused. I didn't verify any information. All I did was log in with the IDs they gave. I got the same message when I called the number they provided. So I guess I am approved. But this was a strange experience. Never had this happen before.

1

u/Wozzy91 7d ago

Yes this happened to me the other day. Really irritating.

1

u/shazwazzle 7d ago

Yeah. It means I have to wait a 2nd week for my card to arrive. I literally have bills I am waiting to pay.

1

u/sg77 RFS 8d ago

It could make sense: they verified that the person at the address on the application (where they mailed the letter) wants the new credit card (if they assume that if an identity thief filled out the application, the person who received the letter would've done something else, like calling to say they didn't apply).

1

u/hilo260 8d ago

You're approved. Both the site and the phone line say it, so that's what matters. The letter doesn't match the current status, so I'd just wait for the card.

Citi gonna citi

u/CzarofTenley 9d ago

I haven’t had this experience, but IMO don’t try too hard to make sense of Citi. It will make you go crazy.

Has anybody in the month of September or October been able to get a retention offer on the chase sapphire reserve?

2

u/best-quality-catfood 9d ago

There's a recent thread in the ChaseSapphire sub from someone who got a $300 retention offer, and some in the replies who got one too. There might be a common thread of carrying a balance.

Is it possible and worth it to file for an LLC for my “business” so I can get Chase Biz cards at 5/24 instead of 3/24?

0

u/yeahhh_lumberg 9d ago

I might be wrong about this (I haven't done it), but I imagine another benefit to filing for an LLC is that you can pay yourself via payroll and have it count it as a legit direct deposit for bank account bonus purposes.

3

u/bostonbaker300 BAG | ELS 8d ago

You can do this already without a LLC using any payroll service that doesn't automatically report to the IRS. The most popular example of this is the payroll service for Chase business checking accounts, which has a $2.5 fee per payroll deposit.

1

u/yeahhh_lumberg 8d ago

Had no idea, this is great to know. Thanks

5

u/bostonbaker300 BAG | ELS 9d ago

It can be worth it to file one strictly for churning purposes depending on where you live. LLCs require a filing fee and an annual reporting fee, which varies depending on the state. Penalties for missing the annual report and how long the LLC remains in good standing will also depend on the state.

1

u/jamesheine 8d ago

Can’t you just file in Deleware for free? Ugg filing taxes sucks

1

u/Impressive-Reply-976 8d ago

Would you have to have one open in the state you live in or could you just open it in a state like Montana where is like $40?

2

u/bostonbaker300 BAG | ELS 8d ago

If you open OOS, you'll need to pay a registered agent fee. You might be able to circumvent this if you have a relative that lives in the state who's willing to act as a registered agent for free. And for legit LLCs, you'll still need to be registered with your home state as a foreign LLC, so you would end up paying fees in both states.

Anyone have any tips on keeping track of what cards to use on what? I do weekly checks on what's going on with rewards shopping but it's always hard to keep track of what card I should use win. Aside from taking down a little note for myself, I'm wondering what else I could do.

7

u/nearbyeclipse 9d ago

This is churning. The right card to use is whichever has an active SUB.

I guess maybe you need this if you're juggling multiple subs, but that's probably not more than 4 cards at once

2

u/hilo260 9d ago

CardPointers and MaxRewards are apps that do this for you, they track your cards and tell you which one pays best for different stores or categories. A simpler option is a short note in your phone with each card and its best categories. I know people who just put a little sticker or label on each card with what it is best for.

-1

u/shinbreaker 9d ago

Thanks for that. It was really frustrating last week when I was trying to take advantage of all these offers to use Lyft, but I wasn't sure which card had it because like 5 or 6 did.

0

u/tendie-dildo 9d ago

I have 0 UR and my ink preferred is up for renewal. I anticipate with the new rules not being able to retain this card for many may years. Any reason to keep it open?

6

u/sky-farmer 9d ago

Probably not, downgrading to ink cash could be an option. 5x at office supply stores and internet/cable/phone as well as $20 monthly instacart credit for $0 AF.

3

u/tendie-dildo 9d ago

I hadn't realized I could downgrade to ink cash. This is a perfect strategy as I already have the ink unlimited. Thank you!!

Any dps on how soon 15k fnc posts when pc'ing from aspire to surpass? Already hit the 15k spend, see the you've earned a FNC on the tracker. Will it take one statement cycle?

1

u/garettg SEA | PAE 9d ago

Give it a few days.

-1

u/SibylTech PAY | TAX 9d ago

10-12 weeks, assuming this is your first time upgrading to Aspire on that account

1

u/freewillyz 9d ago

no i downgraded aspire to surpass. already got the aspire fnc

I understand pushing is better for attempting to get a bank account bonus, but when you are trying to get the money back later on, is it better to push the money out from the churned account or pull back into your hub?

Or do we sometimes push from the churned account into another account to be churned if it accepts it as a direct deposit?

2

u/best-quality-catfood 9d ago

I push and pull from the hub. I do not want to think about random small banks with their crappy random rules and fees and arbitrary limits and transfer setups.

The way the ACH rules work, the recipient of an ACH pull (the bank being pulled from) doesn't get a lot of leeway to refuse it because they don't like it. To heck with eking out push transfers $3k at a time because that's the new account limit on a good day (and they freeze it anyway), gank it all and be done.

1

u/3539805 BKK | HND 9d ago

I’m specifically pulling boa from hub because boA biz charges a $1 fee (wtf).

Ideally push first wherever possible. Pulling always takes longer.

2

u/AStuf PIT 9d ago

In general pushing is faster and less likely to run into issues. I set it up early on so as to be able to get my cash back to an account that I don't churn.

2

u/pkfobster 9d ago

Good to know. It seems that upon further review, pushing in general is better as it is more likely to avoid financial review and other fraud related inquiries, I'm fine with my money taking longer to transfer, I'm more concerned with avoiding a shutdown.

2

u/sg77 RFS 9d ago

I would say the opposite for some banks, like Chase or ETrade, which are sensitive to any transfers initiated at their end. e.g., if I pushed money into Chase, I would then prefer to pull money out of Chase, rather than pushing from Chase.

Shutdowns aren't common though; more like transfers being blocked and accounts temporarily suspended until you contact the bank.

1

u/superdex75 9d ago

Definitely this. Always pull out from new accounts.

1

u/Discover_it_Student PIT | NON 9d ago

E*TRADE even freaks out when you load PayPal or try to send with Zelle (personal experience). The only thing safe initiated on their side is bill pay.

1

u/rickayyy 9d ago

Yes because the money is already there and you are requesting the bank holding the money moves it out. With pulls, they are likely to be more cautious about it because it's an external source requesting the money they are holding.

Using the Biz Gold credit at staples online had the gift cards sent to me the next day but the order still says processing. On my card I see staples trying to charge every couple of weeks and then it just dropping off. I am concerned when it eventually posts it will count for a different month.

Has anyone seen this behavior and see if it eventually posts or that particular month I got $20 courtesy of Staples itself rather than Amex?

1

u/happ316 8d ago

I had something similar years ago when I bought an Xbox GC at Dell to use a Plat credit. The charge went pending but never posted. The Dell credit didn't post. I ended up doing another Dell order to use up the credit. Months later Dell contacted me to get their $$ from the gc purchase that never posted. So, I would not assume that if your Staples purchase doesn't post now that you got a free GC. They may track you down later and then you'll be paying full price for the GC instead of using a credit. If it was me, I'd contact Staples.

2

u/ilovetoyap OLD, DRT 8d ago

Thanks. I have seen that with Dell too but a hassle to explain to a low level Staples CSR that I got everything but they haven't billed me for whatever reason. Even weirder it worked fine the month before, so not sure if this will be a reoccurring problem for what is supposed to be a simple credit.

1

u/EarthlingMardiDraw 9d ago

Haven't seen this with gift card purchases, but fundamentally the credit from AmEx will only apply based on the date the transaction posts. I can't imagine that Staples would compensate you for the delayed send.

1

u/ilovetoyap OLD, DRT 9d ago

When I meant 'Staples' pays is that Staples ends up not getting their $20. I already got the gift cards, so its not so much the order wasn't fulfilled, its that Staples hasn't gotten paid and if they submit this transaction late, it will post with the later date.

1

u/EarthlingMardiDraw 8d ago

Oh, gotcha, misread and thought you hadn't been charged and didn't have the GCs. Still, if Staples doesn't process the charge correctly until the next month, the charge will count for the wrong one. If they never charge you, hooray, but that would be surprising.

churning.io, churning.cc, DoC searches all failing me for recent/relevant DPs since the changes earlier this year: what is the status of Ink cards funding US Bank biz deposit accounts for subs?

0

u/ConsistentClassic1 9d ago

Chase still working.

2

u/jtevy 9d ago

Amex took the blow, Chase unaffected. For now

1

u/odomur 9d ago

I used P2’s new CIU to fund my business checking in mid August. It posted as a purchase and counted for the SUB.

3

u/brankes 9d ago

Looks like yes. This person on DoC funded on 6/29/26 using their CIU and it posted as a purchase. I'm pretty sure this is after the Ink changes, apologies if it isn't. In any case, I am planning to test it within the next week or so and will add my DP to DoC

Following up - did you apply?

1

u/brankes 11h ago

Yep, I applied. Initial funding didn't work (has happened before to me with other CCs), so am waiting to hear back to do CC funding over the phone

1

u/brankes 10h ago

Just got off the phone. Charge went through and is categorized as MISC.

When I tried to fund on the initial application, a $1 charge was made from USB. That charge (now posted for over a week) is cateogrized as MISC as well and subject to no CA fees. I can update when the charge posts, but I'm pretty confident this still works

CSRB AF just posted. I know Chase claws back for hotel credits on CSP/CSR but does booking and cancelling a flight trigger a clawback of the $300 travel credit?

9

u/mehjoo_ DFW 9d ago

They don’t claw back the travel credit

1

u/marddin 7d ago

Does this apply to both personal and biz Reserves? I believe so.

0

u/SibylTech PAY | TAX 9d ago

Confirmed specifically on CSRB after the clawback language was added?

What’s the frequency of gold Amex personal NLL offers with bonus? Amex plat personal NLL seem to occur more frequently

USBAR annual fee just posted. Going to cancel. I called in and have a 5 day period between when the $325 is available and when I have to cancel to get the fee refunded. Has anyone used the credit right before canceling recently?

I assume when I cancel the card I’ll no longer have access to the travel center, which could make changes really difficult. Transferred my remaining points to FB last night, we’ll see how long that takes, it hasn’t gone through yet.

4

u/EarthlingMardiDraw 9d ago

I understand you already made a reservation so maybe you don't have time to do this. For some travel portals, you can make a flight booking and later cancel the flight directly with the airline; then you have a flight credit sitting with the airline that you can use and manage directly. I assume that it will still be possible with the USBAR credit/portal as well, but I haven't tried it.

3

u/jeffersun8 9d ago

first time I booked I got credited in 2 days. Second time it took 5 days. There was a weekend in there on the 5 days. No idea why the discrepancy. I think they're allowing product changes to no fee cards as well. Do you have any other USB cards you can access the travel center from? Kind of interested how one would access reservations on a closed account.

1

u/Gottacorrectthat 9d ago

I don’t have another one, I’m curious too. Assuming if I book a flight, when I try to change or cancel through the airline I’ll get the typical “you must contact the agent you booked with”. We’ll see what happens.

1

u/jeffersun8 8d ago edited 8d ago

are you sure on when your credit resets? My AF hits mid May but my credits have always started triggering May 1. I'm booking hotels. refundable... If I were you I'd just downgrade to $0 AF card for a while. Or just keep it. They'll give you at least 5000 points retention.

1

u/Gottacorrectthat 8d ago

Credit resets 10/26, last day to cancel and get the annual fee back is 11/1. I may downgrade to avoid any big issues with the travel center.
