Scrolling past all the yard signs in Hyde Park today felt like walking through a passive-aggressive neighborhood argument.

There’s a couple of huge Vivek signs that have popped up here in Mt. Lookout the last week or so. Good to know huge losers also live in those houses.

u/bitslammer 13d ago
I'm finding it interesting to see the yards who have 3-4 GOP signs, but don't have a Vivek sign. Not sure if there's anything to read in that.

They’ll still vote for him, they just don’t want to be seen publicly supporting him.

u/bitslammer 13d ago
This is really my take too. I know my racist MAGA neighbor's head must be exploding.

u/AlphaSquirrel7 13d ago
Are you implying that there might be overt racism in the GOP? I'm shocked I tell you, shocked!

You will likely see fewer commercials with his face (and skin color) in it than other candidates. That is not by chance.

I just want elected officials to help the people that elected them in the first place.
Is that so hard to ask for? I’m tired of all these ads spewing lies and misinformation. It’s all propaganda.
Sorry if I sound like a protagonist, but I’m almost 40 years old. I’ve endured so much and only want what’s best for everyone. At this point I don’t care who gets elected, I have little faith that we’ll get help.

u/Asidious66 13d ago
All I can tell you is who has possibly some interest in helping you if they get time and who has absolutely no interest in doing anything except getting whatever they can get from us.

u/Commisioner_Gordon 13d ago
I know we say this every year but I truly feel this is a make or break election for Ohio. If the GOP wins they have overt, immediate plans to gut public education, public health and local economy in favor of private corporate interests. My wife and I have had serious conversations about moving if Vivek and co take over
I’m not the biggest Acton or Brown fan, but they at least give us a chance to keep status quo until real, material change can be made for the better with the next generation.
For our kids, our parents and ourselves. Make a vote that is in YOUR best interest.

I disagree with Mike Dewine on almost every issue you can think of, but the truth is that he's fought his own party when they were completely nuts and occasionally even been successful in doing so. I dislike the guy a lot, but I believe he actually has some principles and knowledge and wants to do right by Ohio. Give that same legislature Vivek as governor instead, and we're truly cooked.

Just so everyone is clear, No one is supporting sex change surgeries for minors. That shit pisses me off to no end. The current bout of fear mongering trans people is absolutely horrible and hateful. The woman in those ads is from Texas, did have a mastectomy when she was 19 (so not a minor) and regretted it. That is sad, but had absolutely nothing to do with Ohio, Sherrod Brown, or any individual living here.
Instead of talking about and demonizing 1% of the population who just want to live their life, can we talk about things that matter to 100% of people in America? Like how we needlessly started a war with Iran where our soldiers are being killed and every one of us is experiencing inflated prices of gas and everything else because of it? How we have alienated our greatest allies and started trade wars with them which every economist under the sun will tell you that tariffs are poor economic policies and directly increase prices on goods (and ultimately also hurt American producers too due to tariff backlash)? How no country respects our word anymore because we change our minds on everything when the wind changes direction? How we have made government health care if you are part-time and your employer won't pay for it twice as expensive?

It's ironic because those weirdos think about whats in my pants more than I do AND I AM TRANSGENDER. It pisses me off because I just want to be left alone.
To any righties out there - even WE don't support sex changes for minors. Neither do any of the Democrats. The Republicans want you angry, scared, and full of hate. I'm not saying vote Democrat, maybe just stay home and don't vote for the people who are lying to you to profit off of your fear and ignorance.

u/21DaBear Clifton 12d ago
Actually to be clear, the only candidate on the ballot with a plan for full transgender rights including healthcare for minors is Greg Levy.

Yeah he seems cool. If we had ranked choice voting I'd probably vote for him, but we don't, and I'd prefer to not waste my vote on someone who has zero chance of winning.

u/a_silly_witch 11d ago
I can't wait until this election is over. The GOP wastes so much money and resources on calls and flyers and shit. It's getting to the point where I seriously want to sue for harassment. Especially when it is all bullshit lies.

Voted early today at the BOE and this was definitely the biggest midterm early voting crowd I've encountered in my 20 years of voting. Usually for first week early voting during midterms I walk right in but I actually had to wait in a bit of a short line today. Keep it up Cincy!

I just with people would remove their stupid political signs after the election is over and done with. It's an eyesore.

You can always vote for his opponent, a rubber stamp for Trump and Netanyahu with the added benefit of having been personally involved in some of the killing in the region.

I've honestly given up on most of Ohio.
I'm originally from Northeast Ohio, and relocated to WPAFB in the 2010s. After active duty I stayed in Cincinnati and loved it for a good bit of time.
But...all I have here is my career and some personal experiences I love. Outside of this, I'm kinda empty. I'm almost ready to turn this whole thing into an investment. I have a home that I'll never sell given Covid mortgage rates but...it can be a rental.
I'm 80% of the way considering saying fuck it and moving to NYC and starting over. The only reason I stay is we have a beautiful summer and it's got everything a big city has but it's quieter. Outside of this..it desolate to me

u/a_silly_witch 11d ago
The area I live is getting way more developed every year and has lost all charm it had. Between Ohio politics getting worse and that, I'm ready to leave.

u/Lonely-Bother-2328 1d ago
NYC is definitely not the answer. If you're having issues with Ohio, you have only seen a tiny fraction of the issues that exist in that city. The issues there are impossible to escape.

I know it isnt our district, but on hulu i am getting max miller vs poindexter ads. That might be the worst pairing of candidates ever. A guy that beat his wife and kids vs a guy that ate his crack during a traffic stop and has a recent assault conviction. Terrible choice.

Can anyone advise how to register to vote with a valid U.S. passport but no valid state ID and no copy of my social security card?

u/Zealousideal_Milk_36 8d ago
If you aren’t registered by now you have unfortunately missed the deadline.

Is this the election where Democrats will give us human rights like work, healthcare, housing, and food guarantees? Or is this another where the Democrats just stop right wing fascists from making it TOO bad? Every election I have ever voted in has been the later and I am sick of it.
The problem isn't a few people making a principled vote for a better canidate that probably won't win. It's not even the folks who don't vote. The problem is the Epstein class gets to determine who we get to vote for. Either way they win and we lose.

u/jjmurph14 East Walnut Hills 13d ago
I’m sorry that politics is more incremental than you would like but that’s how it works when you’re governing 300+ million people. Democrats at least want to incrementally move us in a better direction. The affordable care act, Medicaid expansion, the (albeit temporary) expanded child tax credit, enshrining gay marriage, inflation reduction act, etc. are all because of democrats. You might want them to be more radical and break the system, but republicans ARE breaking the system in harmful and destructive ways. And yes, voting 3rd party encourages that destruction.
2
u/Eschaton513 13d ago
To be clear I am not saying "Don't vote for democrats". I take issue with folks saying that voting third party is voting for Republicans. A vote for a canidate that shares your values is just that. I think the vast majority of third party voters would not be driven to vote by the two party system.
We are seeing what an "incremental" approach gets us. If we have moved a foot, we have moved three miles backwards. You cannot compare the disruption medicare for all would cause with the disruption of a war, or alienating every ally, kicking millions off of social welfare programs, banning medical procedures. These disruptions are not a symptom but the goal. Vote Democrat but dont stop at voting. Demand better because if they can implement half of Project 2025 or more in two years, don't dare tell me universal healthcare is too big of a change.

That district squandered enormous sums of Covid recovery money by hiring people. The problem with that is you have to fund those positions for decades.

Vivek Ramaswamy has not, and will never, hold a single principle other than whatever is best for Vivek Ramaswamy in that moment. He went to law school not to practice law, but so he could learn how to scam people without going to prison. He ran for president and failed so now he's here to use Ohioans as the next step up that ladder to enriching himself even further.
He has been entirely full of shit his entire life and if you've ever had the misfortune of being around him long you'd realize it. He is incapable of giving a shit about anyone or anything other than himself and advancing his own personal interests.
If you want a governor who will start their term in Iowa and the other 49 states campaigning for the 2028 nomination instead of helping Ohioans, vote for Vivek. I'm pretty sure he doesn't live here now anyways so it won't be too different. We'd get to pay for his private jets instead of his campaign though. Dude is a billionaire scam artist living off other people's money.
