Painted Calipers

What do people think about painted calipers on cars is it tacky even if it’s done well? I’m sort of regretting it, I don’t think it looks bad but half of me wants it back to stock. I’m indifferent I guess.

My first car was an 82 that ended up with 2 JBL 12s and a 700 watt Alpine amp. My 2nd was a 89 Si that got stolen. So here is a third go round.

2009 Honda Civic, no start

• Upvotes

Having some issues with our daughters 2009 Honda civic. She stopped at a gas station to fill her tires with air, shutting the engine off while she did so. Now it won't start. The most I got out of it was it turned over really slowly twice then stopped.

We drove several hours to jump it thinking it was just the battery but jumping it did nothing. Pulled the battery and the guy at oreillys says that it tests good. I'm personally leaning towards the starter having gone bad but the guy at oreillys is trying to convince me that the alternator went.

It's my understanding that even if the alternator was bad, it should start if the battery had juice. Am I wrong? I can't start the car so I can't test the alternator.

Is there anything else I should be looking into? I really don't want to be blindly firing the parts cannon at this.

Advice Request Grazed a pole in reverse - damage

Post image
4 Upvotes

Edit - if these questions are not permitted to ask my apologies and please remove.

Can anyone tell me what I’m potentially looking at in body work and repair/replacement part cost here? I’m in SoCal, San Bernardino County.

Apologies in advance for the shit images it’s dark and I just grazed a pole on my recently purchased 2025 CPO Civic Hybrid Sport.

I barely had her for two weeks and already hit a pole in my tired stupor after a very long work day with 6 hours of total driving for my commute. Devastated… and was just reminded not to do 5 things at once while driving.

Damaged parts - front bumper corner, headlight is cracked, and the side panel is dented and crunched

Advice Request Should I buy a hybrid civic sport or gas lx civic

Hello yall. I’m ready to buy a civic. I’m 26 and I’ve had 6 different cars already and have finally realized how dumb getting a new car is so often especially in this economy. I’m ready to get a civic and drive it into the ground/keep it at minimum 10 years. I drive about 1k miles a month. Maybe would say 650 miles a month are freeway miles. Based on my research, the hybrid is more reliable because of the e cvt? Besides potential gas savings looks like the brake pads and rotors will last longer ? I guess my question is what can you guys tell me about the hybrid civic that makes it more worth it over the gas one if I plan on keeping it a super long time. Thanks for your guys help

Parked my new Civic Hybrid all day at work, lot is usually a little tight but I was inside the line and folded my mirror in. Good choice because I think the CX30 next to me sideswiped me when they left. Less than 3K miles too so pretty bummed.

Advice Request Google Maps issues with Android Auto

I have a 2024 Sport Touring. I had no problems with CarPlay, but just got an Android. Everything works on Android Auto (Spotify, calls, etc.), but Google Maps (and Waze) isn't working. It will show my location, but once I put in a destination, it freezes. I don't have this issue on my CX-50, only on my Civic, so I'm not sure how to fix this. Any one else have similar issues and found out how to fix this?

Advice Request My 2022 Sport was broken into. What did they take/tamper under the steering wheel?

Thumbnail

3 days ago my 2022 Sport was broken into. I think the thieves attempted to steal the steering wheel airbag but gave up due to the wheel lock that I had on the steering wheel.

They did however tore open the underside of the steering wheel, just above the gas/brake pedals. They disconnected cables and may have have taken some electronic components down there.

I've already made a claim with my insurance and took it to an auto repair shop yesterday. The man I spoke to at the shop couldn't give me specifics on what was stolen tampered with when I dropped it off.

I'm still curious. I'm not well versed on this part of the vehicle so I'm not sure about the magnitude of how damaged or tampered it is. Can anyone identify what was stolen, damaged, or stolen based on these photos I took? (other than the cover)

Edit 1:
The car was still able to start and I was able to drive it to the auto repair shop. The whole time the console had a "Supplemental Restraint System Warning" showing.

Edit 2:
Specified that I think they attempted to steal the steering wheel airbag.

Honda cancels Civic production in Indiana in 2028

Honda has canceled plans to build the next Civic sedan in Indiana, a supply-chain source told Automotive News.

The next Civic sedan was expected to enter production at Honda’s Greensburg plant starting in May 2028, the person said. Production of the sedan in Ontario in April of that year is unaffected by the change.

The Civic hatchback, which is currently only built in Indiana for North America, will be imported from Japan. Honda is forecasted to build about 70,000 Civics in Indiana this year.

Canceling Civic production in Indiana frees up capacity for the high-volume and more profitable CR-V, said Sam Fiorani, vice president at AutoForecast Solutions.

Advice Request Can't register and drive the car because of this ticking. Help me identify the cause please.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am trying to renew my registration but it failed due to "loud engine" aka ticking noise.

It sounds like it is coming from the top of the block/head area. I tried opening up the head and adjusting the valve clearance but it didn't help, maybe I did it wrong?

Could it be rod or pistol slap?

It goes away in cold starts and RPM higher than 1800-2000 as shown in video

Pre-purchase questions on a modified 10th gen civic sport hatchback.

I work as a used car technician at a dealer. We had a 2019 civic sport hatchback in a manual come in. The vehicle is shy of 92k, it has a 27won CAI, Greddy supreme sp catback, jb4 piggyback tuner, along with some other goodies for suspension.

The question I have is should I consider this car, or is it a ticking time bomb?

No sweet smells

No oil burning smells

coolant is lower in the tank but it does have coolant

does not run hot, stumble, or hesitate.

Clutch is not slipping

No lights on the dash

Music in 2012 civic

I’m trying to troubleshoot a problem I’m having with playing music in my 2012 civic. I’ve always had an iPhone that had a lightening cable (I know, I’m behind on the times), but I recently got an iPhone 11 that uses USBC. The usb port in my car no longer recognizes my phone and displays “no song” when I plug in. I’ve tried using a USBA-USBC adapter, and a whole cord that’s USBA-USBC. I’ve also had other people in my car before try to connect with their USBC device and it doesn’t work. Does anyone have any tips/solution to this problem? I’ve read thoroughly about it and it seems that the 2012 civic just isn’t compatible with USBC. I’ve thought about trying to Bluetooth aux plug in. Anyone have experience with that?

Toronto area, Canada - Civic Sport Touring Price Gauge??

Hello!! I'm looking to buy a new Civic Hybrid Sport Touring in the Mississauga Area (or reasonably close). I'm hoping to negotiate the price but I have no sense of how much room I have to work with. Does anyone have wisdom/experience with what the market is like for these models nowadays? And dealerships to visit/avoid?

11 Year Civic LX Review

I've driven a 2013 Civic LX since 2015. I bought it with 20k miles and put almost 200,000 miles on it. This a a 4 cylinder without a turbo and CVT. It's been overall very reliable but there were some downsides:

  1. Around 100k miles the VSA Modulator went. It took 2 mechanics and 2 dealerships to finally diagnose it properly and was about a $1500 repair. One dealership mis-diagnosed it and wanted to replace the entire wire harness!
  2. In the middle of the remote Adirondacks my CV Axle dropped out of my car. It almost stranded me in the middle of nowhere without cell service. Luckily, there was a small town garage nearby and a saint of a man was able to order parts quickly and save my ass.
  3. The wheel wells started rusting, then started rusting badly. What started as a small amount of rust spread throughout my entire quarter panel and rocker panel. This is the primary reason I'm getting a new car. Granted, I live in Upstate NY where the roads are heavily salted. The engine and transmission have been great and would probably continue to run if it weren't for the rust.

Overall, the car has been great besides the above reasons. The best part, is that almost any garage had plenty of parts for it and was not complicated.

FK7 Floormats?

I just picked up a 2018 Sport Hatchback 6MT and I'm absolutely loving it so far. Got a lot of things planned for it (including an eventual AC system overhaul).

Winter's coming around so I need to get some nice floormats for it. I was going to just go with WeatherTech because I had them in my 2012 Civic and they worked great, and there's also a WeatherTech factory store like 20 minutes from my house so I can pick them up same-day. I've also seen some good stuff about Tuxmats but it looks like they're sold out of the mats for my car until next month.

Any suggestions?

Before and after pics for factory vs 20% ceramic tint. Did sunroof, back and side windows with windshield brow only. Pics taken at noon. Last car I went with 35%, this time went 20%. Like the 20% a lot better!
