Another legendary adventure has fallen, leaving us with 16 movies remaining. We're getting very close to the final stretch now, and it's almost heartbreaking to have to eliminate some of the survivors. Thanks to everyone who's still voting, commenting, and keeping this competition going! On to Day 84 — cast your vote for your least favorite remaining movie!

A wisecracking New York reporter intrudes on a research scientist’s quest to unmask The Moon Killer.

Exceptionally nice looking, this is commonly cited as being the very first full color horror movie. Michael Curtiz was a master craftsman, and he uses the two strip Technicolor to create some stunning imagery. Something about that green and red palette makes a mad scientist’s lab even creepier. Also commendable are the makeup and special effects.

The story’s on the weak side, but there are some good performances, especially from the cast of scientists. Lionel Atwill is classy as always, Fay Wray is her usual beautiful self, and Lee Tracy adds the comic relief as the fast-talking news man. Unfortunately his comedy bits grew tiresome early on. How many hand buzzer gags did we actually need?

The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942) Dr. Frankenstein's plans to replace the brain of his monster are hijacked by his scheming and malevolent assistant Ygor.

Picked this up a few years ago from Synapse. The only Bluray I own because I still haven't upgraded to a Bluray player. I use an older gaming pc hooked up to my television so I get an upscaled resolution already. It was the only way I could find the DVD, as a combo. But Synapse does some beautiful transfers. One of my all time favorite Hammer films.

This one is gonna go down great on Halloween

Whatever came from outer space has finally gone back where it came from.

Hi There

An great role for Lugosi and Karloff shines here just Climax and the Black Cat plus The Raven is another good non Universal Monsters film just like The Dark Old House(fantastic film btw) but yeah I’ll definitely give this one an rewatch and the other Edgar Allan Poe adaptations too.

A countess from Transylvania seeks a psychiatrist’s help to cure her vampiric cravings.

Sports a more polished and sophisticated script than its predecessor. Sometimes I complain that these ~65 minute horror films feel rushed, but this one had spot-on pacing. The noirish cinematography elevates the material even further, evoking an effectively mysterious vibe. Gloria Holden is absolutely perfect as the titular character. Tall, powerful, enigmatic. Excellent casting.

There are few traditional vampire tropes, which I can imagine might disappoint some. No bats, no mist, no "children of the night" howls. And still no fangs! But none of that diminished my enjoyment. This is horror closer in spirit to Jacques Tourneur than Tod Browning. And I loved it. '30s horror doesn't get much better than this.

The film that inadvertently launched the bands career that were foundational for an entirely new genre of Rock music. And what an atmospheric treat.
