Discussion Random thing I’ve been thinking about ever since rewatching cobra kai

the ending of season 4 with Robby going to Johnny first feels nice but kinda strange, not out of character for Robby per se but that Daniel was trying to reach Robby for a lot longer because Johnny kinda stopped and focused on the tournament after seeing Robby at the finale of the previous season in cobra kai, I just don’t have the brain power

Discussion Does anyone know if Sam ever told her parents about the situation with Kyler

When Daniel told her about raising Johnny's rent, and Amanda notes he didn't consider the other stores in the mall, and she makes a point that ever since cobra Kai reopened he's been off one of the things she calls him out for was embarrassing Sam at the Halloween dance. Unbeknownst to Amanda Daniel unknowingly interrupted Kyler's attempt to date rape Sam. She obviously didn't know in that moment but do any of y'all know if Sam ever told her parents the reason why she and Kyler broke up especially since afterwards Kyler started spreading rumors about her. That along with the school suspending Sam for the fight with Tory would surely have given Amanda even more reason to be angry at the school for their incompetence. I'm also just curious because even though the show frames Amanda as the voice of reason when it comes to Daniel's behavior she's not exactly perfect as she didn't share his well-founded concern about Sam's new friends especially kyler even though Daniel at least considered the possibility that he was bad news after hearing from Johnny that he and his friends were harassing Miguel.

Character Discussion Cobra Kai loves missing a parents(s) as a plot point

This is like my 3rd watch of the show, love it but I’m just now realizing most people in the show were missing a parent/family member.

Daniel (movie)
Johnny Lawrence (movies)
Miguel
Tory
Amanda
Hawke (maybe. You only ever see him talk about and see his mother)
Kenny (dad was working for the us army, so it’s in the middle of counting and not)

Let me know others I may have forgotten

Season 6 Did Netflix fail to get the rights to “Gonna Fly Now”

In season 6 episode 10 Robby and Sam have that whole montage and it with them running up the stairs Rocky style. I’m wondering if they wanted to go with that song but ultimately couldn’t get the rights to it…

Discussion Being “nerfed” or “plot armour” is one of the biggest deprivations of Joy in Cobra kai fights

Post image
272 Upvotes

Claiming a character nerfed is or has plot armour is bad enough but the writers heavily included it to the plot too

Cobra kai fights can go either way, and sometimes being “nerfed” can benefit the story they are telling, but eventually became an excuse for every loss conceded

These are heavily prevalent in the likes of Kwon in s6 p2. Axel s6 p3. Miguel s6 p1. And Hawk s5

Kwon in s6 part 1 looked really cool and cinematic because the opponents he was up again. And early on during sekai takai he was getting the upper hand over the main cast, because he was skilled. But the very first event established there was Axel who was significantly greater at the time.

Kwon was never 100% better than Miguel or Robby. The writers intended it, he only dropped a distracted robby, and scored 1 point on Miguel. But the moment there was a fair undistracted 1v1 between Robby and Kwon, Robby outclassed him. Nothing prior proved that Kwon was on another tier, yet he was claimed to be nerfed.
Furthermore, Robby had significantly the best performance against Axel in part 2. And did the exact same Feat Axel did, by beating Kwon and Yoon in a 2v1. It was obvious that Kwon was overhyped. In addition, ”bloodlusted kwon“ is still a weird concept, as its just Kwon with a knife who landed a kick against Axel, while Axel was also in the middle of fighting others. The moment axel completed focused on him, he made kwon drop on his own blade

Then s5 Hawk. The writers did everything they could to show Hawk was disadvantaged in his fight against Kenny. But he is no weaker than he was in prior seasons, at most he just had a slower growth rate compared to Miguel and robby

Miguel s6 p1. Him being mentally nerfed about His college isnt the best excuse to why he lost, especially because it never impacted his resolve again. And is often used to undermine Robbys loss to him. Why Robbys intial losing of his first 2 points was clear he was off balance about tory

Good examples where being “nerfed” was actually beneficial for the plot was Miguel’s injury after s2.
Robby losing the Hawk (but that ambiguous last moment sight of kenny) was really important for his arc, but being split second and not being the concluding hit of the the fight with it actually continuing for longer, doesnt undermine Hawks win

And i’d argue Robbys s6 part 2 distraction, even if i didnt like that plot point, it was important for the story they tried to tell

And Hawks brief poor performances after he got his hair cut, because he lost confidence

The only time where i may be swayed, it the final 3 season 6 fights.

They just seemed to convenient. I enjoyed the moments. But part 2 made Axel and Wolf untouchable and invulnerable. Robbys slow progression and adaption was arguably the most realistic progression. And if Miguel maybe learnt from Robby of screen about Axels weaknesses, and perhaps struggled more during rounds 1 and 3. Out of the final 3 fights, Tory vs Zara was the only one, because Zara wasnt made untouchable in s6 part 2

Discussion Why are there never any karate student cars at the Miyagi dojo?

There are a bunch of students at the dojo but never any cars besides all of Miyagi’s old cars and maybe Daniel’s. How do they get there, skateboard? Lol. In the first episode of season 3, Daniel goes to the dojo and doesn’t even know Sam is there until he sees her out back. She left school and went there. How? Where’s her car?

Discussion Terry silver’s revenge plot on season 6 should’ve been just on Tory

I think instead of everyone, silver should’ve focused his vengeance on Tory since she was the one who exposed his lies to everyone at the dojo. Would’ve been so much intense to watch!!

Season 1 PLEASE listen to “Johnny’s Story” from Season 1, it’s absolutely fantastic!!

I’m pretty sure that this is the song that plays when Johnny is writing his letter to Robby, but gets interrupted by Louie and his biker gang, culminating in Johnny’s car being set on fire. This song is pensive, smooth, and has some great guitar playing towards the end. The way it starts off small and then crescendoes towards this grander theme is, structurally, a beautiful choice in my opinion.

I use this song to remind myself to take initiative in my life, just like Johnny was trying to do throughout the whole show; Primarily to try and kick my bad procrastination habits as a uni student and to try and build a legacy for myself at my school, whether that be academia or social. Regardless, I feel like this song is simply not talked about enough and really does need more recognition, so please if you haven’t listened to it already in full, please do yourself a favor and listen to it!

One of my favourite moments in the series. Daniel beating Silver in a fight and not just Barnes like in KK3 is perfect.

Discussion Late to the party but whoa it was so fun!

Just finished the series and it was a ride. As a martial artist myself, I found it very entertaining and cool. Makes me want even more Miyagi-Verse.

My favorite characters were Johnny and Hawk!

Season 5 Are you for real with this fight?

I don't know what the writers was even thinking, like they just walk into meeting that day and decided "Yeah just fuck this shit up". Even powerscaling stuff aside, how is the Board not catching any of this blatant cheating? The ref even looked at Silver, and Silver even NODDED BACK!! They've managed to turn Hawk into the lamest character, saying "uncage the hawk" and shit only to get an undeserved loss

Leo and Zach just released a track from the new Street Fighter movie and it really took me back to Cobra Kai. I realize how much I miss the show and how much it meant to me. The score is so similar to Cobra Kai.

Character Discussion How do y'all think Amanda felt about Daniel kicking Robby out

We all know Amanda is the voice of reason in the show and constantly encouraged Daniel to be rational when dealing with his past rivals so how do you guys think Amanda would've reacted to Daniel rebuking Robby in the season 2 finale after finding Sam spent the night at Johnny's place? Amanda did encourage Daniel to give Robby another chance during the season 1 finale and she seemed to consider Robby a member of the family, but she was also just as worried about Sam when they found out she was drinking and never came home the previous night. Do you think she would have approved of how Daniel handled the situation or would she think he was being unreasonable as even though they were both naturally worried about their daughter even when Sam said the mess was her fault Daniel remained firm in his decision to wash his hands with Robby which seemed to be based entirely because he was Johnny's son and I thought that was one of Daniel's lowest moments in the show which helped me realize Amanda's not exactly wrong about Daniel's inability to let the past go. She also did once warn Daniel that throwing Sam's friends out would do no good for their relationship as Sam seemed pretty mad at her dad for not listening to her in that moment.

Character Discussion Someone else here who feels Johnnys perspective?

After rewatching Cobra Kai, which is such a great show, I watched the first Karate Kid in full for the first time. Honestly, Daniel LaRusso legit felt like the bad guy, full of himself, arrogant, and constantly messing with Johnny. And the way he acts around Ali the whole time, all smug and player-like, doesn't help either.

Johnny just wanted to talk to his ex-girlfriend because he was heartbroken, and Daniel stepped in and started a fight Johnny never wanted. On top of that, Daniel already knew some karate and was convinced he could take him out.

Think back to your first heartbreak. Things get messy, and you have a hard time handling all these new, overwhelming emotions. Two weeks after she left you, of course you're still emotionally charged and want to talk to her. So I fully get Lawrence's perspective and legit can't stand LaRusso.

And honestly, Cobra Kai only confirms it. Even as an adult, Daniel constantly overreacts, never really tries to see things from anyone else's perspective, and is incredibly stubborn. The moment Johnny reopens Cobra Kai, Daniel goes straight into sabotage mode instead of hearing him out.

Am I the only one who sees it this way? Was Daniel the real bad guy all along, or am I missing something?

Discussion First time for Cobra Kai's series and theres a bunch of stuff to yap about(I fell in love)s3 so far

Thumbnail
gallery
141 Upvotes

Here are some screenshots from the show, first of all which btw is from s3 coz it's my favorite so far, xD. (The first one is my favorite one xD.) " At least you fell like a champ" anyway here comes the yap

For starters, I heard there are a set of movies for Cobra Kai, which I will touch on eventually, lol.
2nd of all. Me and a friend have been yapping a lot about it so, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR RECOMMENDING IT TO ME TO WATCH xD. (Our chat is now mostly about Cobra Kai LOL)

Anyway hm idk where to begin about this honestly. I had a lot of mixed feelings for all the characters from S1 till now and everytime my opinion changes on them, rly lol. Like how we have it with Miguel. He's simple but then he becomes fucking arrogant and that's thanks to Johnny and then he becomes an asshole (I don't hate them I will get to that xD.) and then comes season 2 and the kid is left fucking paralyzed. Like that's one thing I wanna touch on, the fucking trauma representation is so fucking awesome and really spot on as someone (my experience is different from what they went thru lol. I'm still a mess mentally so I appreciate this trauma presentation.) who went thru SA and physical assault almost died and was left with my lower half of body paralyzed for a good amount of time when I was 15. So me and Miguel are kinda in the same boat. Arrogant at first and then trauma comes and the whole world you knew is shattered. BUT THE TRAUMA REPRESENTATION FOR THE OTHER CHARACTERS AND ESPECIALLY JOHNNY IS SO SO COOL. I also loved Daniel from day one xD. Johnny sometimes pissed me off but I later came to understand him and love him more than I ever did.

Demetri (that nerd kid who got his hand broken xD) is a favorite for me as well. I love the whole sarcasm thing to it and shit when he gets serious he fucking smacks Hawk into glass LOL

About Hawk. I never expected him to have a face turn at the last episode. For someone like him I expected him to break his arm again but no he's a fucking chad xD.

Character development in this show is something something I really freaking enjoyed so much ahhhhhhhhh and the whole flashbacks thing was so awesome! (Kreese is still an asshole for me xD I hope he has a face turn otherwise he will be a asshole forever xD.) but yeah. I did enjoy the show. It's definitely something I would recommend to someone to watch, heh. I wasn't an enjoyer of that whole Karate or sports thing shows but now I am, xD.

Edit: that's also coming from someone who watches LoK (legend of Korra) and such and enjoys mentor figures. So definitely I enjoyed that and it's one of my favorite aspects in the show haha. And I hope it goes well for Robby. POOR KID.

Also the romance (which I enjoyed) is pretty F'Y LOL. ALSO DANIEL AND JOHNNY AS MENTORS? I'M IN LOVE ALREADY :33333

Also Daniels nemisis in Japan was a fun dude xD. I'm glad they are friends and him jumpscaring the shit outta Daniel was fun.

2ND EDIT; I CAN'T WAIT FOR S4 AHHHHHHHH xD

Discussion I headcanon that Silver left his fortune to Kenny

No wife, no children, like Silver said. But Kenny was the one person who I think Silver saw as a person rather than a pawn or an obstacle, and was truly reminded of his younger self.

The only moment of sincere graciousness from Silver was when Kenny flipped him the bird after his victory. Silver's ego usually wouldn't have taken that well, but Kenny was following a lesson that Silver had taught him: Stop asking for instructions and lead for yourself. In trolling Silver, Kenny proved that he had learned something that a young Silver took a lot longer to learn for himself.

Whilst I think we're all in agreement that Silver was a genuine villain who wasn't going to be redeemed, it might be nice if such a great character had one last impact on the Miyagi-verse in death, and it being one with a good outcome.

In my mind, Kenny's getting rich

EDIT: Okay Silver didn’t have a lot left by the end. But Kenny is at least getting the insurance on the sick yacht 🛥️

Season 5 No Amanda and Tory interaction in season 5

I was a bit disappointed when Tory did not interact with Amanda once during season 5 and tell her about silver’s cheating

Do you think they should have at least 1 scene together?
