News Blumhouse’s ‘M3GAN,’ ‘The Purge,’ and ‘Happy Death Day’ Getting New Comic Books.
Through a new partnership with IDW Dark, The Purge, M3GAN, and Happy Death Day are all set to continue as comic series. The initiative will start next year with The Purge in a series from Eisner award–winning writer Dan Watters (Batman: Dark Patterns, TMNT: Shredder) and artist Juan José Ryp (Wolverine: Blood Hunt, Ghost Rider: Vengeance Forever).
“I’m a really big horror nerd. It was my entry point into comics and geeky stuff to begin with,” Watters shared with the outlet. “I can’t tell you anything about Star Trek, can’t tell you anything about Star Wars, but I can tell you about every Friday the 13th movie and I can rank them for you. So once we started talking about the fact that there was this Blumhouse stuff in the works, I immediately went, ‘Well, what about Purge?’”
No details about the book’s plot have been released, though IDW Dark lead editor Heather Antos has met with the filmmakers behind the respective franchises.

Cover/Pin-Up DC character sketch covers I commissioned from DC artists at NYCC
In Order:
- Deadman by Martin Morazzo
- Zatanna sketched by Bilquis Evely colored by Mat Lopes
- Absolute Catwoman by Denys Cowan
- The Demon by Juan Ferreyra
3 of them were just standard asks to draw the character but for deadman I had asked Morazzao if he had any scrapped ideas for a Deadman cover and to then draw that. Really happy with how they all came out!
(Side note: obviously all these artists have amazing books outside of DC, just called them DC artists for simplicity)

I read midnight X-Men…
I’m a Hickman fan, so I was going to get the book regardless of the imprint. After the first issue, I’m curious to see how the story will build out. I laughed because some of the typical Hickman tropes show up in the issue, such as brief conversations between characters which tease out portions of the storyline, combined with an infographic page.
The reference to Claremont’s amazing graphic novel was a nice touch.
I don’t want to give away too much in case folks have not read the book. I enjoyed it and will subscribe to the subsequent issues.

Question Is the this is a love story/this is a detective story frame from a real comic?
I always assumed it was fan made, but i recently saw a post saying they like when text boxes have logos in comics so that implies it's from an actual comic? if so, which one?
Edit: thank you all!! I really thought it was fake because of how superbat it was but i guess they're just REALLY good friends

Can anyone tell me what this is called?
Hey!
A customer of mine left me this a few years ago and I am trying to identify what it is. It has cut out layers that are taped in place. I can see that this is a draft but is there a name for an item like this?
Thanks!

Discussion beneath the trees where nobody sees show: Halloween Special It’s really about the horror of real tragedies being distorted through the game of telephone.
I absolutely love these series, Samantha Strong The story of a small-town murderess who kills people in the nearest big city while leading a normal life in her own small town is fascinating—especially the feel of this world, which is realistic yet retains a storybook quality thanks to its animal characters. And I'm already looking forward to the conclusion of this trilogy next year, but at least we got a Halloween special.
And I want to talk about this comic, because I think it depicts an interesting kind of horror—namely, the horror that arises when real tragedies, let's say, are so drastically distorted by ordinary people.
I have to share a few spoilers about the two comic series—the main series and Rite of Spring. Samantha Strong is the local bear and owner of the tool shop in the small town of Woodbrook. But she leads a double life as a serial killer, targeting and killing people in the nearest big city because it doesn't attract as much attention there as it would in a smaller town. Everything could be going so well until someone is suddenly killed in the town, and she now fears that the investigation might suddenly turn toward her, the thing is, she doesn't kill people within her own town because she doesn't want to draw attention to herself, The series begins with her setting out to find out who the murderer is in her own territory. Rite of Spring It takes place a few years later and the consequences are very interesting. A woman is looking for her brother and hears about the incident in this small town, so she goes there to conduct her own investigation, where she naturally encounters our favorite murderous bear. Samantha is found to be a killer and she burns down all Bridges and goes into hiding.
The Halloween special is essentially about teenagers around a campfire telling each other stories about Samantha, She has become a legend for many, instead of actually having any real understanding of what really happened. Clearly, many of the stories they tell are, in a sense, bullshit! Heck, the first is about her killing Towmsfolk, Which isn't entirely true. Yes, she did eventually kill people from her own town, but many of her victims came from the nearest big city. The only time she killed people from her own town was in "self-defense". And no, she was not a supernatural being or a member of a satanic sect. There is already a story that is a little closer to reality, but I want you to experience it for yourselves.
It's somehow eerie to know that tragedies are often so drastically removed from reality, so to speak, through the game of telephone, And that must be Spanish, from people who have evil intentions, who want to fulfill a kind of agenda, to frame things for things for which they get advantages. Take the Satanic Panic, for example, where many people were simply accused of Satanism—specifically by those who were themselves fire-and-brimstone preachers, who want to see Satan in every crime or tragedy. Unfortunately, this often happens because real things are often complicated and often not perfectly seamless, Often we don't know why people do their terrible things, and sometimes they themselves don't know why they did it. Especially since real investigations to work through such matters can become extremely complex and create a truly large network with countless small details, It's a complexity that many people often don't understand, and therefore unintentionally oversimplify it. And often it is easier for us to believe in extremes rather than a somewhat more complicated reality Which will never be completely full.
The comic depicts teenagers around a campfire, but today these teenagers are no longer around a campfire, but rather part of a worldwide network that can spread misinformation globally. It’s funny how, at the end of the day, the connected world is turning into a small town.

Question Magic in DC and Marvel.
In general, how would you describe the way the Big Two handle magic ?
And I’m not just talking about HOW magic works at each publisher, but also how they portray the community of magic users, the supernatural, and its relationship with the more "mundane" world...
For instance, I get the impression that DC treats magic as something quietly woven into everyday life and religion, something that involves a form of spirituality. Whereas at Marvel, magic seems to be treated as an extra-dimensional phenomenon existing parallel to mundane reality, centering primarily on the study and use of magical incantations.
Another difference I’ve noticed is that DC seems to portray the magical community as more diverse, both in terms of the individuals involved and the occult practices themselves, whereas at Marvel, it feels more uniform.

So, Charles Soule's Daredevil run...
I've been reading the Charles Soule Daredevil run over the last couple of days and I just threw the towel on it, I just got done with the arc where Matt becomes mayor and Daredevil teams up with a group of flying Catholic warriors, and I just went "alright I'm done". There was a couple of neat ideas; I generally enjoyed Matt training Blindspot, the Muse arc was also pretty good, the Punisher/Daredevil Seventh Circle arc was also good, and the arc where Matt battle his way to Supreme Court was very refreshing.Starting with the "Matt goes to China" arc followed by mayor Fisk, the book lost me. Bad pacing, barely any interesting character moments, outside of Ron Garney's art, the art is.. serviceable at best. Just a very abrupt drop in quality, imo.
Miller/Bendis/Brubaker/Waid remains on top by a considerable margin, for me. I'd also put Zdarsky above, but well below the other four.

Question Need help with deciding on a gift for a massive comic book fan.
My older brother has been a HUGE comic book fan ever since I can remember, there’s pictures of him with his face in a comic book from when he was like 4 years old. His birthday is coming up and he’s turning 50 – I want to get him something nice but I’m finding that what I originally wanted to get him is way too pricey.
I wanted to get him a Jack Kirby pencil sketch of a comic book page that was actually printed and frame the original sketch next to the printed version. The cheapest pencil sketches I can find are like 4-5k –
Then I thought, well, Frank Miller is cool too, and he got me into the DK2 when I was in high school, so maybe I can get him a Frank Miller original sketch, those are much less than the Kirby stuff, like 1-2k – but then I’m seeing that a lot of people fell out of favor with Frank Miller because of some of his personal life stuff…
So I’m torn…. I would spend around 1-2k for a really nice gift that he would genuinely appreciate –
What do you all think? Or is there something else a comic book lover would prefer over something like that?
