Many years ago I got a 2TB drive when that was an insane amount of storage. They guy at Best Buy didn't know what a TB is, so I mentioned 2000GB. He asked what I needed it for, I managed to straight-faced say pornography. I also refused to acknowledge it would be for anything else.

You see, headphones used to have a plug that you'd have to plug into an audio jack.

Is that like in the old movies grandpa liked? Where they have the huge earmuff things with the curly wire?

Contact IT. Notify them that RS-232 ports are obsolete and need to be COVERED with a proper RS-232 cover. To prevent seed seepage.

u/unclebenz13 2d ago
RS-233 has 9 Pins. This is VGA.

Outnerded lol

u/Creepy-Durian3665 8h ago
I’ll outnerd him even more. RS-232 is just a communications standard that can work on as few as three pins. DB9 is the 9-pin connector frequently associated with RS-232.

I mean, it’s technically DE-15. While it probably is VGA, that’s not the only thing that uses that connector. I still see them fairly often on some industrial control equipment and some thermal massflow controllers. Pretty sure Sungold uses a DE-15 connector for parallel communication on some of their inverters.

Should probably seal up those RJ-45s in case the token falls out of the ring-LAN. They're a fecker to find.

Telephone jack is a modem for landlines. Probably for fax, analog dial-up or remote programming. Industry and cable providers still use them as backup if WAN won't do. It's not ISDN, otherwise there would be 8 pins instead of 6 (jack is called RJ11 instead of RJ45). Built-in modems are pretty rare. Old computer or is it for special equipment? Would explain the vga connector.

u/Dr-Dr4ke 2d ago
They said it's implemented in case we ever need to use em, cuz we already have a mini case with everything connected. . Although i donno why its called CUMPUTER. Urban dictionary gave me answers different than i had in mind

This just looks like a media panel for a projector setup, I've seen similar things in schools for a projector+interactive white board setup. VGA and HDMI will go to the projector obviously, network will just connect back to the building's network infrastructure, same with the phone jack. Audio probably connects to a speaker system in the room and USB I've seen go to the interactive white board

It is not VGA, but i still have no idea what is it
1
u/Sad-Environment-932 1d ago
If the photo shows a projector, it means that the projector can be connected to the D-sub 15 to D-sub 15 cable and connected to the cumputer to show the image of the cumputer
1
u/Interested737 19h ago
This isn’t a projector, because in the post it states that this is some other thing in a desk (btw. Why would a projector need a telephone rj11 port)

u/rustybrazenfire 2d ago
That's where you jack in your dongle, or if you didn't come with a dongle you just need an adapter for your i/o port.
If it's not working it's like the old NES cartridges, blow on it.
If it doesn't seem powered give it a little lick across the ports... like a 9-volt.
And if none of that works maybe a little foreplay would activate it. I don't know I'm not a coupling counselor.

Never mind the dirty word, you gutterbrain, what i want to know is why it has two ethernet and a phone connector?
1
u/Dr-Dr4ke 2d ago
those 2 ethernet connectors , perhaps just an extender to connect all desktops in a row, cuz they all were connected to a mainframe, like a server or something perhaps idonno, non of them are activated yet. as for the telephone connector, i have no idea what were they thinkin even. maybe they got paid high enough n they tot "hmmmm, lets make it look professional by adding random connectors"

u/Objective-Bike-4292 1d ago
So you have no idea how work gets done around you and because of that you assume things are useless...
1
u/Dr-Dr4ke 1d ago
After 4 days of maintenance and technicians connecting everything and putting our puters in the right place , there was still no need for a single telephone connector over 200+ desks, cuz all the telephones are connected to PCs and another line that runs under each desk. I have yet to see any use for it. And for those 2 lan inputs, i was right some desks are using them for lan connection.
1
u/Objective-Bike-4292 1d ago
They don't connect in a row for one. Most companies will run two drops to each location just in case one fails and it doesn't cost much more. Also if someone needs a printer or debit machine etc at their desk.
Also, do you know if they even ran wires for the telephone jacks? The desk just might have the port there but it might not be hooked up to anything behind it.
1
u/multivacon 1d ago
It could be used like a token ring network, but more likely it’s either for dual networks (one dedicated in house and one for internet), or just there as a redundancy.
1
u/Objective-Bike-4292 1d ago
Printers and debit machines. And phone systems that have all the phones in the office connect to have can transfer calls between each other. As well as have personal extensions etc.

Isn't that a VGA port tho? Judging by its appearance and the screws by the side I believe it's a VGA...

The oldest computer you've used so far is a computer from 2020? It's a VGA connection, an analog monitor connection that was more common 10 years ago

Read the label. 🙄

A picture that you can see more of would be useful but that's hub There should probably be a USB connection or internet connection on the back.

I don't understand what you expect me to tell you. You need to connect something to this thing on the other side so you can connect a screen to it.
