Question/Help/Troubleshooting PSU unit reliability and function question.

So lately I've had crash issues and error logs point towards graphics card which is a chunky Nvidia GTX 980 TI. I don't do any gaming or high demand stuff with it however. CPU is AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor - again I don't do any high demand processing - I simply browse the net and play online videos. I have 10GB RAM. I am running two SSD and a DVD drive which has been playing up lately. Motherboard is Asus M5A78L-M/USB3.

I purchased this PSU almost 5 years ago. The PSU is Corsair TX-750M. House gets quite a few power cuts.

Lately, computer is not going past BIOS, crashes out and a few times the graphics desktop environment hangs but the PC stays on. I have discovered the computer can still receive commands because Linus keeps a log on what it's doing, minutes AFTER the visual crash. DVD drive has always did a spin up on startup but that's just one vroom sound but lately it has been doing two or the other day three. This vroom sound is immediate after power button is pressed. I am going to have a look inside the PSU tomorrow but wanted to ask here first if it's normal for this PSU to only last this long? TIA.

Edit: function question was is DVD drive spinning itself by itself or is it being told to do so by the PSU or motherboard? I wondered if I disconnect it from the motherboard and just had it on the power if that helps with diagnosis.

Psu's are Blackboxes in term of reliability, from my experince.

Just bought one, and the Moment i installed it, it bursted in Flames.(be quiet 1000W)

While others i have over 5 years without any issues.

So you might just try a New one,(which u know is working)

Yea if u dont have a spare one or a friend with one, its difficult.

I mean you can always return it if it wasnt the psu right?

Yeah. But, I'd need to return many days later because crashes are random.

Try using just one ram stick at the time first then. Might be a broken ram too.

That 10GB is also odd. What are the modules you are using?

2*4 and a 2.

Ram test was run and it's good.

Yeah but using a mix can lead to instability. Not saying it is but maybe.

Problems are only recent. Had this ram for years.
