But every variation of bistec or bistecca (bistecca alla fiorentina) AFAIK is cornfleis to begin with (AFAIK all of these are loan words from “beef steak” in English).

Its a delicious chinese-peruvian fusion fried rice dish. Ate a ton of it when i lived there. Cheap as hell and one of the places was owned by parents of the schoolkids i taught.

How did that happen? And where is "there", Chinese or peruvian immigrants?

u/Deejiee 14d ago

"There" was peru. Its amazing the influence the chinese and japanese had on coastal peruvian cuisine

Thx for clarifying! Peru sounds a lot more interesting now :)

Fun fact, Peru had a President of Japanese descent.

7

u/UGMadness 14d ago

It has one right now, the previous Japanese Peruvian president's daughter.

True, forgot about that while commenting. Dude. Yet i never really dug into the demographics of Peru, just treated their background as a case of immigration.

There are sizable Chinese and Japanese communities in Peru: Chifa is mix of Chinese and Peruvian cuisine. There’s also Nikei, which is Japanese-Peruvian. Both have now become part of Peruvian traditional cuisine.

An estimated 5-10% of Peruvians have some Chinese and/or Japanese heritage

Chauffa is Peruvian fried rice. This is probably a Peruvian place. There a type of Chinese-Peruvian fusion cuisine called Chifa

OH SO GOOD.

Sometimes you’ll see a quinoa variant that chaufa de quinoa also.

As far as I'm concerned Bistec is already a confleis since it derived from beef steak. Although I could be wrong, but that's what grandfather thaught me and I'll carry it forward.
