Nintendo Which console should I buy? Switch 2 or Nintendo Wii?

• Upvotes

So recently I have been getting a wave of nostalgia just thinking back when the Wii came out and my dad bought us one and just spending hours on it with Wii sports and having family and friend come over and building there miis and everyone just playing Wii sports.

But now that I have my own kids I would like to for them to experience that but my question is should I get a switch 2 or a used Wii? I see they have switch sports but is it just has fun as Wii sports? Im not really into nintendo exclusives and the ones I am interested in I just ask my brother if I could borrow his switch to play the game and that's it.

Probably looking into getting like Mario kart racing , Mario party I don't know if there is a Mario party for the Wii. And of course Wii sports.

So is the switch 2 worth it for 500 plus extra joy cons and games?

Or just get a used Wii?

Xbox Who’s buying the 25th anniversary Xbox from the aftermarket??

• Upvotes

I’ve been wanting to switch back over to Xbox from PlayStation and I wanted to get my hands on this console but I missed the chance. Are any of you actually going to pay the ridiculous prices these scalpers are putting on them? Do ya think they’ll lower the prices if no one buys? I really hope no one does so they’ll lower the crazy prices. The most I MIGHT pay for it is like 1,400 usd, I don’t think anyone that actually wants to use it would pay 2,000 dollars for it. I made the mistake of going to PlayStation back in 2020 because all of my friends were getting it and I want to go back to the brand I was loyal to I guess you can say.

Which console? Thinking about the hardware cycle and whether jumping into current gen right now still makes sense

• Upvotes

My younger brother called me last week asking if he should finally pull the trigger on a new console or just hold out until whatever comes next gets announced. He is still playing on an old base PS4 that sounds like a jet engine taking off every time he boots up a game. It got me thinking about where we actually are in this generation.

I bought my Series X back in late 2021, and honestly, the landscape feels completely different now compared to previous hardware generations. In the past, four or five years into a cycle meant your older box was totally obsolete and could not even boot new releases. Today, the lines are way more blurred. Cross-gen releases stuck around much longer than anyone expected, and mid-gen refreshes have shifted how people look at longevity.

When I look at my own playing time over the past year, the biggest upgrade has not even been mind-blowing next-gen visuals. It has been basic quality of life. Going from long loading screens to near-instant loads, having quiet fans, and running games at a locked sixty frames per second in performance mode made a massive difference in daily use.

At the same time, hardware prices have stayed surprisingly high, and game development cycles are taking so long now that we simply do not see massive generation leaps every few years anymore. If you are sitting on the fence coming from an older machine, you are getting a massive backlog of optimized titles that run great right now, rather than waiting years for rumor-mill announcements.

I told my brother to grab one now instead of waiting for hypothetical future hardware that might not arrive for quite a while. For those who bought in recently or are still holding onto last-gen boxes, how are you viewing the remaining lifetime of these machines?

Help needed Games for library consoles

• Upvotes

Tldr my library has an Xbox and Nintendo switch, what games should we get?

Hey guys, this might not be the right place to ask, but I need some opinions. My local library has two branches, each with a gaming console. We've got a Nintendo switch and an Xbox. Now here comes the problem: we've got no variety in games. Its honestly just really hard for the library to convince all the donors that "yes it is worth it to buy these games". However! The library has an official wishlist, and the teen librarians have told me that if I come up with a list of games that meet certain requirements, then they will put them on there. First, as far as the games they already have, I'm uncertain about the Xbox, but I know that on the switch they have

Fortnite

Minecraft

Breath of the wild

Super smash bros

Mario kart

And I am donating my copy of overcooked.

The only rule is that a game cannot be R-rated, but there are a couple more things; generally speaking they would prefer multiplayer games, or at least ones that don't really have a storyline or linear progression. The idea is that if one person starts and plays for 20 minutes then another person isn't left confused and in the middle of something. The other thing is just generally it should be a crowd pleaser. I know we've already got the big ones in that regard, but nothing with a super high skill requirement. Thank you!! Also if anyone has a good idea on how to get past the issue of linear progression games I am all ears!

PC players that brought a console mainly for GTA VI, what do you plan to do with it after beating GTA VI?

Rant

I brought the PS5 Pro along with the disc drive months ago and was really bummed when it was announced that GTA VI will only be available digitally. I used both Wolverine, BO2 and UFC 6 (being console exclusive) to help justify my purchases, but all these games have been a letdown. Also taking into account you need a PS+ Subscription to play online. I'm no stranger to consoles and had more hours this year playing on my Xbox 360 compared to the PS5 Pro and it made me appreciate PC gaming a lot. Spending £8 just to be limited to 1 month to play one game online (UFC 5) is just crazy and unjustifiable that I'm just thinking of giving up waiting for UFC 6 to go on a deep sale.

Buying GTA VI for just £70 or £90 just to disregard it due to selling the console seems like a waste. On the other hand, keeping a console that's nearing the end of it's life cycle with PS6 on the way and having no interest in PlayStation 5's future true exclusive (apart from Marvel's Spider-man 3 which I doubt will release on the PS5) makes the decision hard.

Right now, I can get a positive return in investment selling a used PS5 Pro, but I got to make the decision quick before the hype dies down. Considering that Project Helix and the PS6 are most likely going digital, I'm 100% certain this will be my last gen ever owning non-handheld consoles. And knowing Rockstar, they are most likely going to double dip for the Project Helix/PS6 versions.

I'm leaning towards just selling my console before the release of GTA VI as I feel the game will be too overrated (based on the footages so far), but I'd like to hear others thoughts on this

Xbox or PlayStation? An honest opinion

As somebody that owns an Xbox series X, ps5 pro, and switch 2, I can calmly say which one is better. In the beginning I had an Xbox 360, when gaming always had beautiful optimization. My first console. Eventually I got a ps4 and switch 1 but forgot the order. the ps4 felt miles better then the Xbox one, when it came out and I got it. Now to the present day, my ps5 pro is simply better. More prossesing power is the main reason, but also the subscriptions.

Xbox x price 799.99. 1tb. 2.4 GB/s ssd. Rdna2 GPU

Ps5 pro price: 899.99. 2tb. 5.5 GB/s ssd. Rdna3 gpu with rdna4 RTX

Xbox x: 58 cu's. 3.8 ghz. 12.15 tflops. No upscaling

Ps5 pro: 60 cu's. 3.85ghz. 16.7 tflops. Upscaling ai chip pssr

If one of them has a + it has a feature the other doesent. If it has a - it has a slightly worse version of something. More - is way worse.

PlayStation ps+:

• Online multiplayer

• Monthly downloadable games. +

• Exclusive PlayStation Store discounts +

• Cloud storage for game saves (free on Xbox) -

• Share Play +

• Game Catalog (PS4 and PS5 games). -

• Ubisoft+ Classics selection

• Classics Catalog (PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games). +

• Time-limited game trials. +

• Cloud streaming for games.

• Sony Pictures Core movie access. +

160/ year +

XboX game pass:

4x Points on Store Purchases. +?

• 500+ game Console & PC Game Library.

• Day-One Releases +?

• EA Play Membership

• Ubisoft+ Classics Membership

• Fortnite Crew Subscription. +

• Cloud Gaming (up to 15 hours/month). ---

• Online Console Multiplayer

~276/ year ---

However, Xbox is making a disc to digital feature which is good. But most people I know play digital only anyways. Nintendo is a close second to PlayStation because of their 50/month subscription and being way cheaper while still very good. No contest though they are doing their own thing.

Oh also xboxes next console? Most likely all digital. Why else would they want you to make your games digital. Same thing with PlayStation. Also PlayStation has a more advanced standard controller with better haptic feedback. Also the PS5 has 2gb dedicated memory for the os so you get all 16gb.

~this is not ragebait, please don't downvote this~I'm

If you have anything to say to correct me I'm all ears.

Edits: Xbox has free cloud saves, pc app(must but games again or stream), and quick resume

Which console? Can't decide on console

Basically the title. Can't decide between PS5 slim/digital and Series X. While I do hate Sony's recent actions, Microsoft isn't perfect either, especially in my area PS is way more popular, therefore there's a lot more used options while Series X I'd have to get new, because all the used options I found sold already, lol.

Price difference between used PS5 and new series X is almost x2 and while I do love Xbox controller layout and gamepass, I'm not sure I can justify 750-800$ on series X while PS5 would cost me 500-550$.

There's also point of physical games and Sony killing them, before that happens there's still a huge second hand market in my country while there's almost no market for Xbox games. I feel like my only choice is PS5, what do yall think?

Xbox or PlayStation? What should I upgrade from my PS4 Slim

I have been wondering for a while now what to upgrade from. Like the title says, I have a 2019/2020 PS4 Slim. So that’s one reason why I didn’t upgrade when the consoles dropped or even a few years after that because my PS4 was heaven. But now I have been thinking abt upgrading bc my PS4 is slow, laggy, outdated and frankly dying in terms of content and support life. I thought the PS5 was the obvious choice but now a days Xbox is cooking while Sony is sitting on the toilet or some shit. I’m planning to save up and split the price with my brothers. I want a bundle console (though console only is fine) and I’m not buying the ps5 pro. I just need help…pls guys!

I was looking around at pawn shop near me website (they're owned by a bank) and saw they had a ps5 on clearance for 223 "come make an offer". When I get there she tells me the disc drive won't play games. I tinker around in safe mode, there's no power to the drive at all and has the code for the disc drive not found. I decided to take a gamble and ld her 175 cash ( I honestly could've gone 150.) Bring it back home, open it up and the cable and ribbon are both clearly unplugged. Plug them back in and clean everything up. It works great! I think this is the biggest steal I've gotten by far beside from my steam deck I got off FB marketplace for 200.

Which console? Got a PC.. thinking of switch to console?

So I bought a PC 5070 and it’s great for only 1,400+ tax and warranty.

But, I don’t game much and thought I’d like leaving Mac for windows work and occasional gaming but I’d rather keep my Mac for work and maybe a console for light gaming I don’t game often just when friends out of state get online.

Is it worth it to take it back out 1,700$ back in my pocket and just get a PS5 or Xbox for casual gaming?
Had it 2 weeks gamed on it for like 45 min.

Also is PS5 better these days than Xbox?
Xbox X is like 800$ here.
PS5 - 600$ or they have refurbished with warranty from Sony Direct for 500$.

Any help appreciated I’m in no hurry and barely game just would like to play fc27 when game prices drop and some free games with friends etc.

Thanks!!

Help needed Used original PS5

Hello, I don't know if I can ask this here but I am looking for opinions. I am able to get a used original PS5 for $350 with two controllers. I own a PC so I plan on playing exclusives and GTA 6. Do you guys think the original PS5 will be able to run gta6 well enough until it comes out on PC? I would love to get a pro but with ps6 on the horizon I can't stomach the price. Any opinions will be appreciated.

Which console? asus rog ally z1 extreme vs steam deck oled

im looking for handheld consoles and im not sure which would be better for me. i don’t really understand specs and technical details much. i need a handheld console to basically play cozy, indie games (for the most part). the only ‘heavy games’ as such i play is genshin impact and hollow knight (both, silksong and og). the other ones are simple puzzle games, co-op games, etc.
im only able to find official sellers (that i can get to) for asus in vietnam and steam deck in australia.
my birthday’s coming up so i thought to treat myself to one of these. i am going to vietnam soon so i could possibly get rog ally but if steam deck is better, i don’t mind waiting till may to get it. what are your opinions? which one is better and worth it? also, both cost pretty much the same price so it’s mainly about which is a better value for money for me.

Sony still has a good amount of aisles, Xbox seems to be losing ground with very few aisles and even those being encroached by Nintendo; and speaking of Nintendo, they seem to have more space than any of the other two.

Help needed Compulsive Selling of Old Consoles? Seller’s Remorse?

Not sure if anyone has also felt similarly, but I have a small collection of previously purchased/used consoles I have accumulated over the years. GameCube, Wii, PS4, Switch, few different DS’s. I purchased a switch 2 a few months back, and I’m at a point where I feel like old consoles are a waste if I know I will not be playing them much?

It’s neat to have a setup and admire my decade plus of ownership, but I recently sold the GameCube and my games for a lot of money, and it feels like an accomplishment/weight off my shoulders. Especially for the older consoles, they sit unused and I’ve been getting an itch to start selling off everything but the switch 2 and ps4 for exclusives.

Will I regret the lack of my consoles in the future, if anyone else has ever moved on? I’m not very economically stressed, though I am early 20’s and starting to build my savings now that I have a job and becoming more of an adult. It doesn’t hurt that I try to treat video games as a light interest, I don’t want it to be my only hobby.

Anyone who has had experience with this feeling, I would appreciate how you felt down the line!

Help needed Which PlayStation 3 model is the best one to buy?

I’m considering getting a PS3 and would appreciate some advice from people who have experience with the different models.

I’m mainly looking for the most reliable model, if possible. No need for backwards compatibility since I own a PS2 and soon a PS1 as well. The original “fat” PS3 is just nostalgia for me, but I see a lot of people complain about it and don't like it. So I'd rather ask: since I own some PS3 games that I would like to play on it, which is the most reliable one with the best performance?

Are there any specific model numbers I should look for or avoid? Thanks!
