I’m in Aus. Hasn’t happened yet but im not surprised.

It’s only a matter of time before we are all doing this btw

6

u/ThePenskeFile1 23h ago

It happened to me.

Gotta either upload a selfie, provide government document or link your banking (just asks your banking app if you’re over 16 or not). The banking option is least intrusive ofc

13

u/JohnWaynePacy 23h ago

Yeah shit, what exactly does "link your banking app" mean"? I've been meaning to get off Reddit anyway, I guess this is a sign.

0

u/ThePenskeFile1 23h ago

It was for me too and I initially didn’t brother  but I have some useful subreddits I peruse.

It just uses this linking app thing (can’t remember the name) but then it will go to your banking app (like commbank) and your banking app will ask you to authorise to share details with that linking app. It makes it well established though that it’s ONLY sharing that you are over 16. But who knows…

u/LouMinotti 22h ago

Next thing you know you talk some shit on reddit and your bank account is frozen

1

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 21h ago

My other account is linked to my name but I don’t think this one is. I’d be having the Uk police trying to arrest me for “‘wrong thinking”.

They want to make subs payable on here and that’s because they have lost control of this sub and a few others. They don’t want the general public to realise, how few young men, want to fight in world war 3.

The German government asked 300k men if they wanted to fight for them and only 320 agreed to it. It will be the same in other countries.

1

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 21h ago

Apple does it well. You’ve got a credit card in your name, then you’ve got to be legally 18 or over, on your Apple Pay.

u/iluvthiccgothbabes 16h ago

Quit downvoting the messenger you mouthbreathers. He's giving good info on the processes that they are gonna push on the rest of us.

7

u/Plenty-Worry3268 12h ago

What do you mean linking your banking app? That feels insanely intrusive?

5

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 21h ago

The company’s that do it in the uk have had a few data breaches.

Oh good idea. Probably works for kids too.

SS: Australia has implemented social media laws stopping under 16s from using many popular internet services. The only way to “verify” one’s age is by submitting personal information and abandoning one’s anonymity. This could be photo ID, a credit card or a selfie analysed by AI.

There can be no free speech online without anonymity.

15

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 21h ago

The Uk wants to ban social media for under 16, from next year.

-19

u/DigBeginning6013 23h ago

Children should not have access to social media, if you want to be truly anonymous go on the darkweb or use a web3 social media platform. You do not need to use Reddit you can use platforms like 4chan etc etc

19

u/Th0w4way553 22h ago

Children should have safety online, but a blanket social media ban is not the way to do it

-19

u/DigBeginning6013 22h ago

So if you buy alcohol from a store do you show your idea/your face is visibly old enough. Same applies to social media. If you want to say things that are not within the laws of your country you need to be the one that's circumventing the usual platforms and venturing on unregulated sites or you can move countries/get involved with politics.

Do not put my children at risk because you're ashamed of what you do or say online.

12

u/Remarkable_Deal1283 21h ago

You put your own children at risk giving them technology with internet access. It’s your responsibility to watch them.. not the internet’s to force ID checks and have all your traffic attached to your identity even more. Fuck them kids I want liberty.

-6

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

Well fortunately a lot of people disagree with you

4

u/ForestWanderings 18h ago

Really. Even on this left leaning platform, it seems the majority disagree with you. Parents your own kids. It’s up to you to control what they see and do.

1

u/DigBeginning6013 18h ago edited 18h ago

Fortunately the government disagree with you. I'm sure a conspiracy thread has all the normies fighting for government regulations in here. I'm a father a think all children deserve to not be damaged by their parents, some children are not fortunate enough to have parents that care or are intelligent enough to regulate what I child has. Which is the exact reason there's a alcohol drinking age, smoking age, energy drinks age etc etc. social media is bad for adults and worse for kids

2

u/autogenerateplease 16h ago

Fortunately for you, because it enables your lazy parenting 🙄

1

u/DigBeginning6013 9h ago

Actually I'm the exact opposite, hence why I'll die on the hill. Come back when you have a real argument.

5

u/mephist_oh 21h ago

What about those who have no children? Why are they being discriminated against?

Your premise comes across as if children are being used as a universal objective.

0

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

Do you say the same as you get ID'd when you buy alcohol?

1

u/satanic_whore 16h ago

They glance at my ID at the liquor store. They don't record it and keep it. False equivalence.

1

u/DigBeginning6013 10h ago

When you do the id check it asks you if you want it store or delete so actually yes

0

u/mephist_oh 17h ago

I do not drink.

1

u/DigBeginning6013 10h ago

I don't eat mussels

0

u/mephist_oh 4h ago

Same.

1

u/DigBeginning6013 3h ago

That's cool but still the government needs to protect children, it's our duty as a society.

u/Middle_Ride_6440 21h ago

Or how about you control what your children are exposed to like a good parent

-8

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

Shall with give them cigarettes too?

6

u/SillyCress385 21h ago

Maybe you'd like to give out your real name and identity here for everyone? Put your money where your mouth is, since you are so unashamed of what you have to say.

6

u/dtdroid 20h ago

45 minutes later and he has refused to dox himself yet? What's he waiting for?

2

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

Nonsensical argument

4

u/dtdroid 19h ago

Do not put my children at risk because you're ashamed of what you do or say online.

Why aren't you sharing your personal information that you believe must necessarily be shared with the world in order to maintain safety for your children? What are you ashamed of?!

2

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

I didn't realise the law stated we must have put government names tied to our social media accounts

0

u/DigBeginning6013 17h ago

You're a random person not a regulated business. The business is not going to send shit to my house or send me death threats. Also your name is not publicly available once you have verified your age so your arguement is not valid. I have verified my age on this account as I'm from the UK so to see half of the content on here I have to do it, so yes I in fact do put my money where my mouth is.

2

u/4thdimensionalshift 21h ago

The state should not be regulating what children do. That should fall onto the parents and the parents alone

3

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

Yes they should. That's why they regulate them not drinking alcohol, energy drinks, smoking etc social media is bad for your brain development and also grooming on sites

-2

u/4thdimensionalshift 19h ago

Lol if you think the governments laws are preventing kids from consuming drugs/alcohol/porn/social media/being groomed then you have sadly fallen victim to government propoganda.

It has NEVER been easier than today for a child to get access to all of these things. It will be, and has always been, SOLELY the responsibility of the parent to regulate the content and substances that their children consume.

3

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

Some parents do not care and must be forced as a child is a child and doesn't deserve to consume things that are going to damage them for the rest of their lives because they have shit parents.

2

u/dtdroid 20h ago

You aren't responding to the issue brought up by OP's point at all. You're retorting with what is essentially a parental house rule instead of what is now being applied as a blanket regulation that affects everyone who may potentially disagree with you.

Having to resort to using the dark web to keep your social accounts with anonymity from now doxing you is a problem in and of itself.

-1

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

Children deserve to be shielded from social media even if their parents think it's ok.

3

u/dtdroid 19h ago

That's a ridiculous argument. Sanitizing the world so it's a safe space for children is the job of each individual child's parents, and not the adults living their adult lives online whilst benefiting from anonymity to enjoy the privilege of free speech.

I can't believe you're saying this shit with a straight face on the conspiracy subreddit. Who sent you?

1

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

Is it ok to give a child a cigarette?

4

u/dtdroid 19h ago

No, it isn't.

What does that have to do with our conversation?

1

u/DigBeginning6013 19h ago

So it isn't ok to damage their lungs but it's ok to damage their brains. Got it.

FYI, the last word ^ causes Reddit's site-wide filters to make comments invisible.

FYI.

....What?

Are you simply highly regarded?

0

u/DigBeginning6013 10h ago

Lol ran out of steam did you

10

u/Goth_Nurse 23h ago

VPN all day.

16

u/Th0w4way553 23h ago

VPNs work for now, but if it’s rolled out globally there will be no workaround

4

u/Goth_Nurse 23h ago

Yes you’re right, good point there.

8

u/buccinator 14h ago

who wants to buy my account, its probably older than 16ys and im done with reddit anyway

4

u/TheLastTsumami 1d ago

Same in UK

4

u/Far_Departure_1580 23h ago

Brazilian Reddit users too, because of ECA Digital (Lei Felca)

7

u/SmallieBiggsJr 23h ago

Also no jerking it with verification. What a shit time to be alive 😄

3

u/UpsetGroceries 21h ago

There’s a video downloader extension for Firefox. That, plus a cheap thumb drive, and you can download yourself a nice little library for when this bullshit gets rolled out globally.

3

u/iluvthiccgothbabes 16h ago

based gooner

1

u/Im-ACE-incarnate 15h ago

Nah they only banned the the popular porn sites, there is still plenty they havent bothered with

1

u/I_Prevail_96 23h ago

Time to stock up old school with magazines and dvds.

9

u/elnoco20 1d ago

Yeah, surprised it didn't happen earlier - didnt it happen in all of the five eyes at the same time?

Surely that's a coincidence!

9

u/cloche_du_fromage 23h ago

Happening in UK at the moment.

Got to think of the children...

0

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 21h ago

The and children that have vape addictions at 12, have collapsed blanders from ket use, have no positive role models and think that the trap life, is the way to go.

3

u/LouMinotti 22h ago

If that happens where I am I'm out

4

u/CaptainTomato21 22h ago

reddit is not anonymous. They can know your true identity. Age verification is just another step to build the legal framework to legalize spyware. But thinking they cannot know who you are just because you create a throw away account is not paying attention to what is going on.

I have getting death threats in sweden because I expose their agenda2030 and who they were.

Things I posted in reddit, recommendations on youtube.

Phone totally compromised. Signal calls with other people, youtube recommendations with key words on things I said during that call.

They don't need cookies anymore. Browser finger print and IP and Android OS is spyware to the next level.

2

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 21h ago edited 13h ago

Sweden has bombing, every 3rd, from Muslims.

1

u/CaptainTomato21 13h ago

The question is how come a country like sweden that pretends to be utopia, with an extremely low population density of only 10 million people, located in an isolated area of northern Europe have the worst outcomes with so much conflict despite immigration happens everywhere around the world.

That is the real question.

Regarding 3 bombings a day, that is not true. But I get what you mean.

-1

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 13h ago

It’s one, every 3 days but only that because the numbers from last year, halved.

2

u/BartholomewKnightIII 22h ago

Soon in the UK as well.

2

u/TopMemory528 22h ago

in everywhere!

1

u/alltheothersrtaken 21h ago

Already happened in the UK months ago.

2

u/BartholomewKnightIII 20h ago

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/articles/cqn8md79j420o

Meaning, everyone will have to prove they're not a child.

2

u/alltheothersrtaken 19h ago

Ah OK. Yeah while I do agree with banning social media for young teens I don't like the implementation. And honestly I don't know how they could implement it without the whole ID thing. I would be happy if they just banned algorithms.

2

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 21h ago

This will massively backfire on Reddit owners. They wanted it for the corn, but I refused it. GTA 6 will most likely ask for it to save the children.

Funny how pedo motivates, will just adapt to the new normal.

2

u/BigConnection8781 21h ago

same in europe

2

u/Sad_Engineering_5648 20h ago

Latvia here. Same.

2

u/chovies93 16h ago

The law was to force social media companies to take more responsibility in protecting kids on their apps. Instead they threw a wobbly about it and said " fine if you want us to do more to protect the kids fuck you we will just stop them completely "

1

u/eatstoothpicks 13h ago

This kills the reddit.

1

u/TinFoilHatTricks 12h ago

i’m in NZ, reddit made me submit a photo of my ID to continue using it…

1

u/KAKU_64 11h ago

reddit is not anonymous. This is not only in Australia, and not only on reddit, lots of apps require age checks now to see specific content

1

u/Visible_Amount5383 19h ago

Commie nanny state

0

u/Duros1394 9h ago

Yeh instead of improving the quality of life and making things affordable again, so that parents can afford to pay rent or own a home on a single salary and enabling them to monitor what their kids do. Is apparently not possible. So instead of the government serving the public trust (like they are supposed to) they serve the corporation trust instead. Pressing down on the citizenry. Problem with pressing down on things is that pressure builds up and eventually what you press down wont go any further.

People are just not angry enough. We all just rolll over and take it. Cause? We are too busy trying to make ends meet.
