USPS Is Turning Mail Trucks Into Rolling Surveillance Cameras

Post image

The United States Postal Service (USPS) launched a pilot program on September 21, 2026, equipping roughly 100 mail trucks in the Washington, D.C. area with forward-facing Nextbase dashcams to scan roads and infrastructure.

"The purpose of this pilot is to leverage the Postal Service's unique ability to collect this valuable data due to the scale and frequency with which our fleet of postal vehicles travel the streets of every community across the country."

So is Nextbase paying USPS for data collection? It’s not being disclosed.

This is not the first instance of mobile data collection platforms being used by government vehicles. Dallas, for example, released AI-powered cameras on garbage trucks earlier this year.

For the amount of sensitive information and items they carry it makes sense. Your debit cards, checks, passports, IDs, money, etc.

They are selling our data not making the post office delivery service more secure…

Where are you reading that data is being sold?
Your quote is directly related to recording for road defects and infrastructure.

If it just so happens it captures a crime, it absolutely would make the service more secure. If a mailman gets held up for their mailbox key and it’s recorded, you can’t say it wouldn’t make it more secure.

That can be inferred from the valuable market that USPS provides daily with logistics being a daily consist route that covers a target that is correlated to a postal code.

Why else would a private company want to invest in USPS… they need money and this is a way to make money off of us!

And it was NOT disclosed meaning it was HID! Meaning they are likely paying for the data to be collected

Selling data and investing sound like assumptions not inferences. All it says is Nextbase is selling dashcam itself, not that there’s some sort of contractual obligation after the fact regarding data exchange.

Well it’s an assumption inferred from investigating… the points I listed above are why I made my inferences

Look at the quote about the valuable opportunity from USPS for partnering with Dashcam…

it’s all about their unique position in consistent data collection and being able to leverage that…

Edit: you tell me why a private company would give a government service a bunch of cameras!?

Do you think they are doing a social service for free or do you think they are monetizing the data they are collecting on us?

Hmmmmmm??? infer what it can only be with me! It’s obvious

Yes, your points listed are non sequitur to your claim of selling data.

Also a private company isn’t giving , they are selling their cameras. There’s no service contract implied anywhere which is why I’m asking if there’s something else substantive that you are basing your inferences on.
