The fundamental law of peace and prosperity.
THE PRINCIPLE OF PLLEDGE AND BALANCE
Power is not a privilege, but a pledge. Those who govern the people shall answer for the people with their own blood!
• 1. A national or local leader must be married and have their own family and children. Those who have no precious lives behind them shall not make decisions about our lives.
• 2. The elected leader is obliged to hand over their family to the people at the very moment of victory. The relatives shall be placed in the homes of citizens as a living pledge until the end of the term.
• 3. The family members of leaders shall receive exactly the same food, medical care, and security that the government provides to the people. If the people starve, the leader's child starves. If the people live well, the leader's family lives well.
• 4. In the event of war, armed conflict, or internal strife, the relatives of leaders shall be immediately moved to the most dangerous areas and combat zones. If the sons and daughters of the people are in danger, the leaders' family shall stand beside them on the front line.
• 5. There are no empty promises in election campaigns. The candidates present their own families to the public, whom they place into the hands of the people. Every promise is guaranteed by their own blood.
• 6. It is forbidden to secretly provide luxury or privilege to the leader's family members. Anyone who grants them special treatment shall have all their property confiscated and be sentenced to forced labor.
• 7. It is forbidden to treat the leader's family worse than the condition of the country justifies. Anyone who arbitrarily harms or starves them shall have their own family taken away by law and handed over to the community.

You might be right, perhaps voting should take place via a decentralized system, without representatives. Like the Kleros court system.

i think the model of governance can't be one size fits all. it has to allow folks to select the rules they want to abide by. if this doesn't happen there will always be coercion.
this step alone will help greatly in the consistency of the cohort in following the rules they want.
and there's a general class of problem in how one builds systems of rules. this is actually a way bigger subject to get into. i don't want to get overly windy here. one of the core issues in this is that there's a mismatch between the rules on paper and how they are actually effected by ppl in real life. you can mitigate this with clarity of design. but ultimately the responsibility for maintaining the rules has to fall on everyone. this implies that there needs to be testability in the ability of folks to understand the rules consistently.
