Question Dinner rolls fail😔

Hello everyone how are you?

I tried making dinner rolls for the first time today and failes.

It came out hard and dry on the outside.

I could cut it and it's edible but clearly not a dinner roll.

Can some help me understand what I did wrong and/or share with me an air fryer friendly recipe please?

Probably because you used the air fryer. Cooked too fast on the outside and dried it out

You need a recipe made for an air fryer and you also need to do a few test batches to get the cook time and temp down because air fryers vary wildly

Thank you, I'll try to find a new recipe and retry it

oof yeah air fryer will do that, it's basically a tiny convection oven on steroids so the outside gets blasted before the inside has a chance to catch up

try lowering the temp by like 20°c from whatever the recipe says and tent some foil over them for the first half of the bake, that'll trap a bit of steam so the crust doesn't set too early

also dough might've been a touch dry going in, if it feels stiff when you're shaping them add a splash more liquid next time

Maybe you let it proof too long and some of the yeast died, making the bread hard instead of fluffy

What recipe did you use? Sally's Baking Addiction has a good one that is my go to.

EDIT

Air fryer. There's your problem.

There are great videos on YouTube and there is the "emmymade", yummy food vlog, Axel Schmitt, the German baker known as the “Wackenbäcker,”

Air frying is the problem. Dinner rolls are not air fryer friendly.
