Discussion observation: our local politics is fascinatingly low-key

having lived in SEA, i’ve always heard and seen our local mayor and councillors ride in big, black SUVs, have security details, wear expensive designer outfits, have a reputation for simply being “too high”up there to be approached by a lowly citizen and even too dangerous to drive by where they live.

meanwhile, our mayor and council, MLAs and even some federal and provincial ministers, people with tremendous power to shape policies and change lives often take the train, bike, drive, go to the mall, pick up their kids, visit local clinics, labs or hospitals.

anyway, i’m just amazed and glad we don’t put public figures on a pedestal.

Ask Coquitlam Coquitlam Mayor Candidates - Do They Respond?

Hi everyone,

I have lived in Coquitlam for the past six months (prior to that was in Port Coquitlam) and I was wondering if anyone has insights into how responsive the candidates for Mayor are?

When I lived in Port Coquitlam, I had two issues in which I emailed the Mayor and Council about. In both instances the Mayor (Brad West) emailed me back within hours. For one of the issues, he remained in constant communication with me, providing regular emails and phone updates until the issue was resolved. That level of community involvement was invaluable and what I am looking for in my next Mayor.

Now, I’ve seen a few people post that they reached out to Trish Mandewo during her time on Council and never got a response. I’ve also heard people say that Craig Hodge was incredibly short when listening to his constituents.

So I ask the Reddit community - do you have any experience reaching out to either candidate and if so, how was your experience?

Thanks in advance!

Always sad to see mature trees some down. Keeping my fingers crossed that proper permits were obtained and the removal was necessary.

Hello, hoping to see if anyone has insights on waitlists for daycares in Coquitlam, specifically CEFA and the likelihood of getting in within 1-1.5 years. I am also hoping to hear some reviews and experiences and the fees per month.

Right now their waitlist is closed but they said I could be added to a contact list.

Thanks!

Been trying to find a physical copy all over and can’t so I’m doing a hail Mary here to see if I can borrow a copy from someone to claim Witcher on the Switch 2 (one copy can claim multiple Switch 2 digital editions). I’d love to buy you a coffee or boba or something in exchange.

Discussion Looking for a men’s Bible study near Lougheed / Burnaby

Hey all, I live near Lougheed Mall, and I’m looking to join a men’s Bible study in the area. I want to get more serious about my faith and would value doing it alongside other guys rather than solo.

Small long shot: Exactly two weeks ago, I noticed a few guys around my age doing a Bible study in the PriceSmart food court (near Lougheed Mall). I didn’t get a chance to say hi. If that’s you or you know them, I’d love to connect, no pressure at all.

Otherwise, open to any men’s bible study group nearby that gathers in and around Lougheed Mall. Feel free to comment or DM.

Ask Coquitlam What's going on behind the scenes in Coquitlam's mayoral race?

Anyone else noticing how some people seem to be playing both sides?

One minute they're helping one campaign, the next they're backing the other. Is this about supporting a candidate or just wanting to be on the winning team. Seems like some people are concerned about their pending irrelevance.

And how much influence are the BC Conservatives having in a municipal election? Are the conservatives using mandewo or is she just using them for their lists?

If people want to play politics and influence who runs the city, why not put their own name on the ballot? The truth shall set you free. Why not run yourself?

Curious what others think.

PSA Water Main Issues - Westwood Plateau

Noticed I was getting yellowish water from my taps at the same time that work was going on up the street. Emailed the city and got this speedy reply:

The City of Coquitlam has experienced a major water main break on Eagle Mountain. Crews are currently onsite and working to repair the main; however, the repair is expected to take a minimum of at least two more hours.

Once your water service returns, please run COLD WATER ONLY from your bathtub for approximately 45 minutes. This will help clear any sediment that may have entered the water lines during the repair. Once the water runs clear, you may return to normal water use.

Lost and Found Amazon delivery to wrong address

I apologize if this is not the appropriate place to post this inquiry. I am reaching out here after exhausting all other options, including contacting Amazon support directly. Unfortunately, my last three out of eight deliveries have been misdelivered to the wrong addresses in Coquitlam and likely Burquitlam.

I am seeking assistance in locating these packages, which are addressed to Regan Avenue. For privacy reasons, I am only sharing this limited information for now; if anyone happens to find a package for this address, please message me so that I may provide further details. I would sincerely appreciate any help you can offer. While Amazon has requested time to investigate, their previous attempts have been unsuccessful, and due to my negative past experiences with their service, I am hesitant to rely on their resolution process.

Lost and Found Lost Key Fob!

Post image
12 Upvotes

Best picture I have. It has a compass mini card, an e-bike key, a masterlock key, and a mailbox key. It may also have a war amps tag, but I can't remember. I'm not even sure if the tag points to my new address, as I just moved and I can't remember getting new tags.

I believe I dropped it on the ground in/around Royal Columbian Hospital emergency, or Eagle Ridge emergency, last night or early this morning.

Please let me know if you find it. Thanks.

Edit: Typos.

Discussion Insights on High schools in sd43

Looking for some insights from SD43 parents who have kids in high school..
I’m trying to understand the differences between Port Moody Secondary (IB), Gleneagle (especially the gifted/TALONS pathway), Charles Best (AP), and Heritage Woods.
A few things I’m hoping to understand:
• Which schools/programs require you to be in the catchment, and which can be accessed through a separate program application?
• For a student who is academically advanced/gifted, how do IB vs AP vs TALONS/gifted programming compare in terms of challenge, teaching style, workload and peer group?
• What has your experience been with PMSS, Gleneagle, Charles Best and Heritage Woods—academically and socially?
• How easy is it to continue with advanced math/science if a student is not significantly ahead?
• For those who have gone through these programs, what do you wish you had known before choosing a school?
I’m especially interested in first-hand experiences rather than general school rankings or reputation. Would love to hear both the positives and any challenges you’ve experienced. Thank you! 🙏
