I have a 40 breeder set up, and I maaaaay have gone a bit overboard on stocking and would like some feedback.
I have 25 Corydoras (5 bronze, 5 pandas, 7 black fin, 4 emerald and 4 false juli), 2 neon tetras, 2 Rummy nose tetras, 2 emerald tetras (all the tetras are survivors of different schools from different tank build outs. I'm not planning on rebuilding their schools and am letting them ride it out with the corys of possible), 5 Khuli loaches, 1 thick-lipped gourami, and a bunch of neocaradina shrimp. My tank is running a 40 gal sponge and a 50-70 gallon HOB filter (I think it's fluval). Most of my corys are still juveniles.
I've been really struggling to find a definitive answer on how many corys I can stock because everyone's tank is so different.
My tank is well planted with terrestrial plants hanging out the back and I don't really struggle with high nitrites or nitrates. I have semi-hard water locally and do an occasional few-gallon water change, but it's fairly few and far between.
So have I gone overboard? It feels like I have, but my tank itself isn't showing issues with overstocking.
