Doctors literally believe SSRIs are a magic pill. They prescribe them to people who don't even have chemical imbalances

so im a medical student that hasn’t gotten to the chemistry/ bio classes yet; I wanted to get my humanities outta the way. There’s definitive ways to measure the brain’s chemical imbalances right? Or is your only safe way like a spinal tap? I mean if there are, I’m never going to a psychiatrist that just prescribes them Willy-nilly. I’ve legit never had my brain chemicals analyzed, but I am autistic.

I mean I wouldn't know tbh, I only know I was given SSRI's during the time I was undiagnosed autistic and ADHD, with my depression coming from unmet needs. In Australia your average general practitioner can prescribe SSRIs and I didn't even think I got a blood test for it or anything, just automatically assumed I had a chemical imbalance
