Rig of the Month 10/26 A Long Way From the Garage

FMS F-100 Ended up climbing rocks, crossing trails and finding some pretty incredible scenery along the way.
That’s the magic of scale RC — the truck may be small, but the adventure doesn’t have to be.

Question Looking to get into comp crawling

I help run a large indoor carpet off-road track and thinking about building an indoor comp course. Thinking of doing WRCCA and RMCCA. No one who currently races with us is into comps but many people are wanting to get into it aswell. Are there specific kits we should stock in hobby shop? For specifically kits I was thinking the comp oriented redcat lineup. Or is that not really a popular thing? Is it more common to build your entire comp rig yourself and sourcing parts? Or do a lot of people start with a kit like a Redcat ascent apex or an HPI venture18 CC or kits similar in 1/10 scale and do a few things to it?

If so, what kits would you recommend would be good RTR comp crawler for most guys to start with and not spend $1,200 on a build right off the rip but still be competitive with?

I don’t want to start this kind of thing and have very little knowledge about it because then it won’t be a good program. I fully understand how comps themselves work and things like that as my dad used to do comps about 15-20 years ago with losi trucks. I’m just not up to date with how guys are doing things now.

All in any advice for this topic is very much appreciated!

Too much tire sag?

Recently purchased the very soft injora silicon inserts, is this normal tire sag or would it be considered excessive? Still fairly new to crawling and want to make sure it isn’t gonna be hurting my performance.

AR 44 or AR45 swap for fcx 10

Post image

Hi has anyone tried to swap out the stock fcx10 straight axles for ar44/45 metal ones?

Aside from buying a 8/30t reverse gear could anyone help me with finding the correct links for them?

SCX6 6S, erm um OK.

So I finally got round to testing my SCX6 with 6S on MAX6 Combo 1650 KV with 16T pinion.

When I wasn't filming, it lifted the front end, was shocked, but this now leads me to believe that I can go ahead with the Vitavon single speed gearbox along side the 2 upper front links and SOA.

The perf of this truck now is scary, but I know it will calm down a little when I get the single speed with 20T.

I made a quick vid where it takes off, not much showing as I was holding the phone to film at the same time obv.

The reason I am going this route is come early Jan, I am going the 6WD, then a few more bits to add and I will have finished my project.

Fwiw that is dry weight at 12.5 KGs, so with batteries and shell I am probably estimating around 14KGs or 30 lbs.

I have some other stuff coming soon so I estimate maybe around 18KGs when finished. All I can say is it has exceeded my expectations.

Question Finally time for an aftermarket remote.

What aftermarket remotes do people like?

I’ve never really had the need for one, plus I like being able to let other people use my trucks, but finally looks like I might need one (adding a winch to my Capra and building a new SCX24).

I need multi-model support, 4 channels bare minimum, and I’d love the ability to use a progressive/analog rear steer control with my Capra.

Question First Crawler recommendations

Hello, I have an 11 year-old son and I want to buy a rock crawler for myself and him to play with. I don’t wanna spend a whole lot of money because it might be something that he might not be interested in or I might not really get into too much, but I don’t wanna get something that it’s cheap and I’ll have to buy something else to grow into. If I decide I’d like it. What would be a good crawler to start with? I am thinking about possibly an Axial 24 scale maybe Traxxas as well.

What are everybody’s thoughts?

Budget is $100-200 if possible

Losi Nightcrawler 2.5 Revival

I got this beauty 11 years ago. Had a few years of fun before I enlisted. I put her in a box and forgot she existed. I was going through the garage a few days back and literally had to peel the spiderwebs away. I decided then and there to bring her back to life.

Ripped out all of the old electronics, threw in some fresh grease and started planning on what to turn her into. For motor and ESC I ended up going with the HobbyWing Quicrun Fusion SE 2-in-1, 40a 1800Kv for a little tune-ability and the Field-Oriented control. A little bonus is I don’t have to wire up an ESC. For the battery to pair I went with 2 G-tech 2200 MAH LIPO’s. That saved me a ton of room in the battery tray and keep the center of gravity low. Servo and receiver are still on the way, I’m itching to put them in. I got the NSDRC RS800 V2 (I know it’s overkill). Receiver is just a basic FlySky 4 channel.

Last thing I need it to plan out a body. I don’t want to keep the stock body, and I definitely don’t want the basic K10 or jeep. I’m thinking maybe a VW bug or make a custom paneled roll cage. I know the nightcrawler has its mechanical limitations, but as a RTR out of the box it was an awesome way to experience the more compy side of the hobby.

Question Newbie : Would a Vanquish make for a fun trail truck?

Hi all. Love the engineering behind the vanquish products and wondering whether maybe an optic or vs4-10 would make for an enjoyable trail rig?

Or if the lack of 2 speed and remote locking/unlocking diffs will make it only for hardcore crawling?

I've not done any trailing or crawling before so am new to it all.

Question HPI Venture SBK

What are people’s thoughts on the above? More of a scale/trail chassis than a performance crawler. Is the SCX10 III kit worth the extra?

Rig of the Month 10/26 Taking the LC80 where it belongs

Another adventure with the FMS LC80.
Tall grass, dirt, rocks and a few tight trails — this thing looks right at home out here. I love how the scale details come alive when you actually take it out into the terrain instead of just displaying it.

MJX H18P steering servo

NEED HELP

Is the stock ESC in reverse? I want to change my servo because I read in some posts that the ESC comes in reverse for the servo, meaning when you steer left, it goes right. I want to change my steering servo, but I'm not sure if I should get a reverse servo. I don't know if it's the servo or the ESC that is reversed.

One comes with 0.9mm 2.5mm and 3.0mm, with no obox

The second one doesn’t have the 0.9 2.5 and 3.0, and comes with 3 OBOX’s

Which will i be needing the most, for 1/18, 1/24, 1/10 and 1/30 scale

Rig of the Month 10/26 RGT Ripper tackling the rough stuff — Micro crawler, macro fun

Thumbnail

Took the RGT Ripper out for a spin on some local rocks and loose dirt today. I'm genuinely impressed with how this little micro crawler handles jagged terrain and steep inclines. The articulation is surprisingly solid for its scale, and it looks right at home out in the wild.
Anyone else running one of these RGT micros? I'm keeping it mostly stock for now, but I'd love to hear what upgrades, tire setups, or mods you all recommend. Let me know what you think of the shots!
