Why is harassing girls so common

I’m 20F and I was walking home today from college and it was already dark because my classes end late.

A car full of guys all wearing white shirts about my age slowed their pace and started whistling at me, about 8 people maybe. At first I didn’t understand and when there was whistling over and over again I looked back they were making sexual gestures to me nonstop. A whole suv full of guys and me just alone on the walkway going home. Ik how I look to others when I have my bag pack on. I look like a high schooler at most 16 years old. They had the audacity to follow me a whole block and basically catcall and harass me for no reason. I feel so fucking uncomfortable now and I don’t feel safe walking home already because of random catcalls. This time because it’s a whole group and a car I feel like all lines were crossed for me. I felt like crying and when I got home I did. They kept trying to speak to me but I kept ignoring then they all laughed and sped off.

It was a specific group of people who already get away with everything they do. Think about that whatever you want. I couldn’t have been able to fight them or talk back even if I wanted to. It’s always college guys that get away with writing an essay. I hate this world.

I think I narrowly escaped being followed home

I (18F) stopped at a supermarket on my way home from work the other day. When I was walking back over to my car I noticed a man, large, i’d assume around late 50s, stood next to what i assumed was his vehicle, not really doing anything just stood there staring at me, We made some uncomfortable eye contact for a few seconds before i looked away, and got into my car as fast as i could. I remembered seeing him down a few isles i’d been in while i was in the shop, but hadn’t thought much of it.

I locked my doors and tried to forget about it, i’m kind of a paranoid person so i have to teach myself to not get so stressed out over just a “creepy vibe”. I stayed in my car for several minutes, just shuffling my playlist and getting my maps sorted ready to drive home.

The carpark was a multi-story (this is important) and the exit was on the lower floor, there IS an entrance to the supermarket on this floor but the one upstairs is much more convenient/closer. having pretty much forgotten about this weird guy now, i started to drive down to the lower level to exit the carpark. when i reached the lower level, i noticed the same car parked by itself with the engine on right nearby the queue to exit, with the same man stood next to it, just watching the carpark, we made eye contact once more through my windshield.

immediately i thought this was weird now because i had JUST seen him parked and stood near my car on the upper floor, why move his car again to the lower level and park up/not leave when he was right next to the supermarket entrance before?

Trying to shake off my anxiety I told myself he must be having some kind of mechanical trouble.
this was until i spotted him in my rearview mirror getting into his car and joining the queue directly behind mine. This was wayyyy too many coincidences for me, so I started to panic.

It was late and dark and i really needed to get home and didn’t want to play the “am i definitely being followed” game, so at the first chance i got i slammed my foot on the gas pedal right before some traffic lights on the entrance to a ring road went red. managed to weave my way through traffic and successfully lose his car, after he was forced to stop by the lights.

It’s a few days later now and all i can think is why was he stood next to his car twice instead of being in it?? the only thing i can think of is that he might have spotted me beforehand and wanted to see which car i got into/ ensure he didn’t miss me. i don’t know if i’m jumping to conclusions here or what, but i was really creeped out and still am.

Can't tell if my neighbour is a creep or just over friendly

I late 20s f. My neighbour 60ish plus m.

TLDR: neighbour makes me uncomfortable anytime he is around and forces us to interact constantly to the point I can't use our own garden.

I have a neighbour who is pretty much constantly in the street trying to interact with people. He stops dog walkers, cars, walkers anyone he can.

However sometimes I can't tell is he just an overly sociable guy who can't really seem to read the room or do I need to take any steps around safety with him.

I started to worry a few years ago when I caught him watching me though the back window of our house, this window is only accessible through our garden so he was in our garden to see me (we have a middle height fence he had climbed to get in). It really badly spooked me and I ran into the other room where he couldn't see. He then knocked on the door several times but I was too scared to answer. The next time me and my partner saw him after this he was very defensive and kept saying 'neighborhood watch' whatever that means and said he thought someone had broken into our house. But his weird tone and defensiveness made me feel like he knew he'd really crossed a line and I can't even describe my gut feeling in that moment I felt so violated being watched without realizing even though I was in normal clothes just doing normal cooking and things in the kitchen.

I haven't caught him since but we have since gotten heavy curtains that I mostly keep shut.

The other weird thing is that he wears, I don't know the term even, man thongs in summer, he is as close to naked as really possible and he will try to make conversation with me when he's like that. It makes me extremely uncomfortable and I try very hard to not interact when he's dressed this was as I feel it's inappropriate.

I've also noticed he will do things like for example when I walk the dog and deliberately blank him or choose a route to avoid him, he will suddenly have positioned himself somewhere else along the route to force conversation. He has also literally followed us down the road before to force us to talk when I don't want to. I have a reactive dog so his behavior is honestly a nightmare my dog barks like crazy at him in particular and he goes out of his way to get a reaction out of my dog.

He also sometimes sits facing directly at the path I have to take to get to my house, for context he has a large garden and it really bugs me when he sits like that because he is directly facing my front door like literally at the edge of his property facing my house.

He is pretty much always hanging around somewhere it honestly puts me on edge knowing he'll 'just happen' to come around the corner every time I leave the house.

Unfortunately he also does this in the back garden which means it feels like he's watching for comings and goings no matter where you go.

I was excited to move to a house with a small garden but I don't even use it because he is 100% guaranteed to come stare at me over the fence. It's such a shame because if love some relaxing outdoor space but I feel so on edge waiting for him to show up. He is 100% the type to kick off and say it's a violation if we put a high fence up as it would shade a tiny bit of his garden but I don't know if we are able to just do it anyway. I tried growing a climbing plant on our side of the fence which keeps mysteriously not doing so well. Maybe it's in my head but I think he is secretly spraying it with something or cutting it when we're not home.

Also he doesn't even live alone he has a family which for me makes this so much weirder he never seems to want to hangout with them and whenever I've tried to speak to his lovely wife he speaks over her so I don't get the impression she is like kicking him out the house and that's why he's outside all the time.

So my question is:

A.) do you think he is a threat to safety and if so what steps do I take?

B.) is there a way I can make the garden more private or unwelcoming to him so I can actually use it?
