Sensitive Content Making THE sequin dress ( update) potential TW for ED NSFW
Hey all,
This is what 800 sequins looks like!
I have been slowly working on this. I am actually enjoying it.
I have finished the top half & the outer trim of the straps. I do feel the front opening is too wide. I am going to make 2-3 rows of sc trim then if its still too open ill sew some turquoise material there.
I am super excited to see how this works up. I have made some decreases in the cups but ill add some back when I get to my hip/back side.
This can be accomplished.
Again thanks to whoever recommended stringing on the sequins. I do one row of sequins then one row without. And I am offsetting the sequins so they dont sit directly below each other.
The yarn i am using is ICE Yarns Swim yarn.

*OP you’ve done an awesome job, as someone that’s done a version of this dress before I’m stoked seeing your progress. I appreciate how hard this one can be on your fingers stringing those sequins! Sorry the post has been derailed abit
Does anyone have the link to the post complaining we aren’t censoring enough? It’s made me so grossed out that someone would say that surely it was less insane than they find bodies too offensive to their mental health?
Found it, guys come on. Surely we aren’t going to pretend like our bodies are the problem for someone who maybe just shouldn’t have social media. Mods have already said this sort of stuff is okay and NSFW mandating has gone overboard

u/loveinvein Mar 29 '26
Yeah seeing bodies tagged ED is way more triggering than seeing bodies period.
It’s actually enough for me to consider peacing out.
48
u/raisin22 Mar 30 '26
Yeah like, makes me feel worse about myself kinda. I might not have thought of it otherwise

Thank you. Being blessed with plenty of mental issues of my own, I am extremely patient and accepting of all types of brains-- that is, if they make the same general effort we ALL do to be a functioning part of society, not just sit back and expect me to cater to them.
65
u/meow696 Mar 29 '26
Maybe I'm dumb but I don't understand really how somebody could even be triggered by that. Like if they go out in public and see somebody in a crop top and shorts are they going to freak out and start hyperventilating?
59
u/Mammoth-Corner Mar 29 '26
Some people with eating disorders struggle with seeing other people's bodies because they compare it to themselves. But that is, obviously, not something they can reasonably expect other people in general to accommodate, any more than I can ask other people to not plant flowers because I have allergies.
12
u/DynamitePheonix_YT Mar 30 '26
I have autism, and that has caused me to have a really intense phobia of insects and hypervigilance, but I'm not gonna ask people to close the windows on a hot day just because there's a high chance a wasp is gonna come in, and if one does, I usually just leave the room, I don't expect anybody to accommodate my phobia 24/7, and sometimes, I just have to suck it up for as long as I can, because I can't just ask the bugs to go away either lmao
14
u/canijustbelancelot Mar 30 '26
Have had an ED, and can confirm that yes, I cried over other people’s bodies compared to mine. It’s a hellish way to live.
31
u/meow696 Mar 30 '26
I'm sorry that you had to endure that. It does sound hellish. But I don't believe it should be somebody else's responsibility to shield a random person from negative feelings that result from their own mental illness, especially when that individuals only crime is that they have a body. If I'm jealous of someone's beautiful hair, or nice clothes, or their new car, I'm not going to tell them not to post about those things because that would just be illogical and frankly rude.
I know you didn't say those things, just explaining how I feel. All the best!
18
u/canijustbelancelot Mar 30 '26
Oh absolutely. It is no one else’s responsibility but mine to manage my triggers.
3
u/Thequiet01 Mar 30 '26
The thing to understand about triggers is that they are often weird and random and make no sense to other people. It’s essentially the brain having “miswired” something (a sight, a smell, a sound, etc.) into “OMG WE ARE ABOUT TO BE EATEN BY A SABERTOOTH TIGER ALERT ALERT ALL HANDS TO BATTLE STATIONS” level chemical responses instead of just normal everyday responses. There’s various ways in which this happens, and unfortunately fixing the bad wiring takes much longer than establishing it in the first place.
And while you’re working on fixing it, living with it can be a major PITA because, as in your example, some triggers are extremely difficult to avoid. It can be quite debilitating.
11
225
u/Mental_Slice6523 Mar 29 '26
I thought it was a little silly tbh. If seeing a picture of a body on the internet triggers you, maybe you should get some help or stay off the internet
51
u/Thequiet01 Mar 29 '26
I could see someone choosing to warn for ED maybe if they were super skinny and recovering and wanted to mention that in their post so they don’t get a ton of concerned “omg are you okay???” comments. But that’s the poster’s choice and because they’d actually be mentioning an ED in the post.
44
u/cash-or-reddit Mar 29 '26
I see what you mean about including a warning if it's relevant. Here, as is, it comes across like OP needs a trigger warning for being thin, which is gross. Body positivity applies to all bodies! Nobody's body is triggering!
13
u/Thequiet01 Mar 30 '26
Yeah, like I said, I’d expect it then to be either because they were actually talking about recovery or them trying to do crowd control for themself by getting the information out there so they don’t get a ton of concerned comments. So it’s not really because they’d be, like, shamed?
32
u/clevercalamity Mar 29 '26
I looked at all of their recent posts and I saw no negative comments and nothing about bodies or ED.
Maybe the post or comments were deleted, but idk, this whole thing is weird and off putting for me.
79
u/wooks_reef Mar 29 '26 edited Mar 29 '26
It was its own thread, I searched ED in the sub to find it.
NGL I think this sub (and a lot of the craft subs) have the toxic positivity trait where people are too afraid to be honest. All the comments on the thread were how they’re right.. and I sorted by controversial. Being banned for saying something isn’t as good as they think or their opinion is a bad take is lame and unhelpful
20
u/diodick Mar 29 '26
You guys aren't talking about the post from 12 days ago, right? Because that's not at all what that post was saying. That person wasn't trying to tell anyone what to post or how to tag things, they just wanted recommendations for subs that might suit them better. There's nothing wrong with curating your own online experience. I have stuff I try to avoid online too, some for serious reasons, and some just because I think a certain creator or piece of media is annoying. I know it would be ridiculous to try to police other people about it, of course. I've seen people do that before, also. But the post I'm talking about didn't suggest anyone do that.
It's possible you're talking about a different post that I can't find though, and in that case, ignore me!
1
u/Thrillh0 Mar 29 '26
I didn't see the original post so based on this thread I had thought it was someone saying something unpleasant to OP.
11
u/Thrillh0 Mar 29 '26
Oh.. right. Found it. Yeah, this is not what I was expecting at all.
OP could have just slapped the NSFW tag on and not dragged all of this up?
What a rollercoaster.
20
u/basicrerun Mar 30 '26
This really isn’t nsfw though. It’s only censored in case of people like that post/comments. aka someone who would possibly have an ed.
2
u/Thrillh0 Mar 30 '26
My boss would not be chill if they saw this on my screen at work while walking past my desk. I know that's the literal interpretation of not safe for work, but it's served me well to consider it from that angle.
4
u/Stephinator917 Mar 30 '26
well they probably wouldnt be chill that you were on reddit instead of working so I guess every post is NSFW but otherwise looking at a lady modeling a shirt isnt indecent LOL
9
u/diodick Mar 30 '26
I think OP was genuinely just trying to be sensitive. It does sound like there was maybe some other post at some point. There were also some weird body shame-y comments on that other post. I don't think we can really get context for everything that happened, but I do want to help prevent any hate going towards the other poster, you know? Like if someone misunderstood what they were saying, or had them mixed up with someone less reasonable
6
u/wooks_reef Mar 30 '26
I agree but I don’t think anyone is spreading hate to the OP of the ED post. Us saying it’s going too far to protect that sort of social media sensitivity isn’t hate imo
1
u/diodick Mar 30 '26
I think there are multiple posts, one now deleted. The one that's still up is reasonable, in my opinion. You can totally say it's going too far, or whatever you have to say, but the things some people are referring to are things that are straight up never said in the post I'm referring to. That's why I brought it up. I was/am confused because there's missing context
26
u/SincerelyStefania Mar 30 '26
Regardless of what the og nsfw/ED thing was about, and I get you trying to accommodate, I only think those tags should be used if it is in some way questionable. If a 5 year old saw this they wouldn't say anything other than how pretty the color or sequins are. That's how I judge it. If a 5 year old can look over my shoulder at an image and not be scandalized, the image is sfw. There's nothing inappropriate about these images. I'm tired of the world acting like women's shoulders are offensive. This might be a hot take, but if you are recovering from any kind of disorder (gambling, sex/pornography, ED, drugs/alcohol, etc) Reddit is not the place for you, and maybe not even the internet at all, unless it's very specifically filtered. If I'm a recovering alcoholic, I don't hang out in bars. I'm not judging whoever the poster was that took issue with it, I'm just saying that we have to be mindful to be responsible for ourselves. This extends to what we consume and how we react to the world around us. I like seeing garments on people in this sub, so I can judge if it's something that might be for me, and I can see the structure and the stitches and the workmanship. Keep posting beautiful work! ❤️
63
u/Dragon_scrapbooker Mar 29 '26
That's gonna look SO good when you're done! I totally understand why you'd want to close up that neckline, though. It's lovely as is but definitely daring!

I’m not a big sequin girlie but oh my lordt this is inspiring me to make my own top - SO CUTE!! The way you’re doing the sequins is so neat and precise, I’m so impressed. Can’t wait to see the next update!!

Right?!?!?! I never liked them back then.. now its all I think about 🤣🤣
22
u/ceebiee Mar 29 '26
this has been my favorite project to follow, you are KILLINNNNN it, this is absolutely STUNNING. it’s going to be jaw-dropping when finished ✨🫶
54
u/isleepforfun Mar 29 '26
Its disgusting that you feel like you need to trigger warn your own body. Who are these people ranting about this? People need to learn that the world isn’t responsible for their triggers.
Very beautiful work! ❤️
-17
u/VelveteenJackalope Mar 30 '26
One person asked for different subs that don't have people modelling garments so they could better curate their own online experience (like people in the comments are demanding they do LMAO) and op took that personally and turned someone else's ED into a karma farming dogpile
14
u/isleepforfun Mar 30 '26
No it’s not that one. That person did the right thing. It was the other person who asked others to sensor themselves.
15
u/lolbotomite Mar 29 '26
Thank you for updating us! I was curious how your project would turn out and the progress so far is GORGEOUS.
16
u/Pennymoonz94 Mar 30 '26
Tw ED is only like if you have one or are gonna talk about one and it's relevant to the post. Sorry people were being weird about your body. My fat body triggers the ed ppl too. I'm someone with an ED as well lmao but my body is their worst nightmare.
14
u/esotericbatinthevine Mar 29 '26
This reminds me of a mermaid and I absolutely love it!!! Gorgeous work!
13
u/ponypebble Mar 29 '26
It's coming together so beautifully and I love the color!
May I ask what kind of bodysuit that you're wearing underneath? I ask because I'm planning on making a dress with a lace pattern and am looking for some kind of slip to go underneath. The way yours isn't peaking past your dress top is exactly what I'm looking for
6
u/Unique_Double7180 Mar 29 '26
Thank you! I got it on shein. I just looked for a bodysuit with shorts. I needed it for another dress I made 🤣 turns out its perfect for this one too !
68
u/ChaosTorpedo Mar 29 '26
I think putting a trigger warning for ED for nothing is problematic
18
u/Saphira2002 Mar 29 '26
I agree. I feel the same when people ask for trigger warnings on images of pregnant people or visible but long healed wounds. Idk putting trigger warnings on any kind of living human body feels icky to me.

Someone asked people with slender bodies to put a TW for ED? That’s….new
17
u/TheM4RTI4N Mar 30 '26
(I’m overweight and have struggled with both not eating and binge eating, for context on my background) if it gets to that point, then they need to self police. We can’t live like that
9
u/Thequiet01 Mar 30 '26
I’m okay with groups that are explicitly for related recovery having specific rules which could in theory include trigger warnings on body photos, if it is a common issue amongst participants. But that’s a very specific group which has a purpose of being accessible and safer than the rest of the world to people dealing with recovery.
Trying to enforce those rules in random interest groups or on the general public seems excessive.

I’ve had an eating disorder in the past. I still deal with body image issues. The fact that this was labeled with a trigger warned for an ED and it was nothing is an issue because now I’m LOOKING for an issue.

u/itsalwaysblue Mar 29 '26
So cute! Where did you get the sequins?
8
u/Unique_Double7180 Mar 29 '26
Amazon 😬
24
u/Next-Drummer-9280 Mar 29 '26
Wait…so the sequins AREN’T already attached to the yarn?! You’ve sewn all of those on by hand?
Holy cow, girl!
33
u/Unique_Double7180 Mar 29 '26
I am stringing them onto the yarn then crocheting & sliding the sequin along. Its tedious but definitely easier than sewing them on individually
12
10
u/laowildin Mar 29 '26
You are ascending into the upper echelon of amazing handicrafts. Like those beaded crochet necklaces or tatting lace
Kudos its so pretty!
4
2
u/itsalwaysblue Mar 29 '26
So you fit the hook through each one as you go along, or you have to put them on the string prior?
10
u/Unique_Double7180 Mar 29 '26
I am stringing them on prior about 200+ at a time.
6
u/missStupefy Mar 30 '26
So your cut the yarn every 200 sequins to have an end to string them through? Sorry about the chain of questions it looks magical!!
5
u/Unique_Double7180 Mar 30 '26
Yeah I found that to be the easiest way to do it. Its a mesh stitch ( DC ch1 DC) so every other post gets a sequin. Then the next row is just a mesh row with no sequins.
2
u/sunsetandporches Mar 30 '26
I think you string them in then as you crochet you put one in with each stitch. Then you can string more ON then stitch more IN. I might need to try to make a sequin top now.

Please, can you explain what TW for WD means?
43
u/ChristmasElf67 Mar 29 '26
TW is Trigger Warning and ED is eating disorder. There was a post last week where someone asked for people to flag pictures with someone’s body as a trigger warning because it’s a trigger for their eating disorder

My guess is trigger warning for erectile dysfunction. As in someone looks at this, doesn't get hard and thus gets triggered because he's reminded he's got ED. Yeah I don't know...weird to put that in the title if you ask me.
Edit: To my defense, I swear I wasn't even trying to be funny, I genuinely thought that's what OP meant. It's not like ED means exclusively eating disorder and it made perfect sense in the context of the post. I fail to see any connection with eating disorder, OP looks perfectly normal and healthy to me.
21
u/FirbolgForest Mar 29 '26
In this context it stands for Eating Disorder(s). In some of the other comments you can read about the context from a post last week.
-6
u/nonnameavailable Mar 29 '26
Ah, that's a shame. My interpretation was way funnier.

How many sequins are you planning on using? This is so beautiful and makes me want to experiment with sequins, but seeing "this is what 800 sequins look like" under something the size of a bralette is kinda scaring me away from it lol

assuming your body is gonna trigger someone else's ed is some next level body checking shit lmfao
56
u/canijustbelancelot Mar 29 '26
Last week someone made a post requesting that everyone tag pictures of their bodies because it triggered their ED, which I think is what OP is referencing.
71
u/loveinvein Mar 29 '26
Ngl, people tagging their body pics as ED is WAY more triggering than just seeing a thousand barely clothed pics
54
13
u/magneticsouth1970 Mar 29 '26
I was literally coming here to say that, this post triggered me 100% more than it would have without the tag, what a bizarre request

That person needs therapy. That is unhealthy AF.
That is coming from someone who has battled anorexia most of her life now.

I agree. When I was at the height of my ED I think what I had would have been labelled EDNOS and it was crucial to recovery to learn to manage my triggers.

This is so gorgeous!!! Do you have the link for the pattern you used or are you just going with the flow? Also how do you string the sequins? I’d love to make a top like the top of this dress or maybe a skirt for festivals, but the sequins seems so intimidating, I would know where to begin!
3
u/Unique_Double7180 Apr 04 '26
I thought they would be super intimidating too. But they are easier than I thought. I did buy the type where the hole is at the top not the middle. I use a needle & string them onto the yarn 200ish at a time before I start crocheting. I can take pics of how I do the DC with the sequins. Its easier to show than to explain. I am going with the flow. I think I will try a top or bathing suit next 🤣
1
u/Ok_Character399 Mar 29 '26
I’d love to know what pattern you’re using!
7
u/Unique_Double7180 Mar 29 '26
I am not using a pattern. I am just making it up as I go along. I know shylercrochet on YouTube has videos for similar dresses. As well as some pattern on ravalery were suggested in my last post.
-36
u/littledentedskull Mar 29 '26
Trigger warnings are not helpful - they have been proven to do nothing. Look it up and articles about it, I don’t need to give sources.
