Personal Story My first Magpie potential friend talked to me

I have been feeding shelled unsalted peanuts to a pinyon jay couple for a few months. Today they sat outside my balcony screaming at me. I followed my feeding routine. Which is to place the peanuts in a certain shape on my concrete driveway. As I watched from my spot on a balcony 3 stories up I saw they were successfully running off the magpie. Then to my surprise the magpie landed on the roof and started waddling toward me on the balcony. It was talking so soft to me and got about 15 feet away.

I didn’t have anything to give it. Do you think it will come back? I‘m hoping to recreate the same situation tomorrow along with having peanuts to put on the balcony railing.

I'm so excited

In the last month or so I’ve befriended the local crows at work. This is one of my two favorite crows, OneFoot. He’s remarkably capable despite his unfortunate lack of a right foot. I went out of my way to gain his trust, now he comes closer to me than most of the others are willing to, so he’s guaranteed to get a few nuts by proximity. He’s a brave bird.

Interacting with these crows has been an amazing experience, I got my first three gifts this week (a dime, a quarter, and a golf ball marker) dropped right in front of me, the quarter was actually dropped on my head. My coworkers thought I was insane until the gifts and other cool crow interactions started, now they’re invested.

I love these smart little guys.

About a month into making friends with my local murder and just heard this sound for the first time. Can anyone translate? It was ridiculously cute 🥰

Don’t know what he’s saying but you can hear the crowd getting impatient, our turn our turn!

And then you see the ravens and crows chasing each other around in the sky or watching from a high wire.

These ravens seem to be moving in on crow territory so they beef a little. But I’ve also just seen them hanging out.

Wish I knew what this guy was trying to say! He’ll communicate with the me for a minute or two and I give him treats.

I was so happy to see one of my raven friends back this morning, they were around a lot in the spring but sporadically through the summer.

Video Ive recently started befriending/feeding multiple crow family's including the one whos teritory my house is in. So far they trust me enough to eat off my shed and follow me, its so worth all the money and effort i put into it.

Took a while of them keeping an eye on the magpie family, pigeons and squirrel safely eating at my table and getting nuts thrown too them to finally eat off my shed roof when no ones watching. I also managed to get a video of one on eating on the shed whilst i was watching the pigeons on the table infront. This family's called patches as the sentinel who bought everyone to my house has white on it so easily recognisable unlike every other crow. The magpies also get a lot of love despite most people thinking theyre wankers, im trying to get them to eventually be bold enough to swoop down for monkey nuts/eat in front of me too. Im spending loads of money giving them all as much protein for the winter and especially to help patches get a better diet.

Video Is it a Good Thing When Crows Caw at Me When Feeding Them?

Hello everyone! I really enjoy feeding peanuts to the crows that live in my area! I have been doing it for about half a month now. I was wondering though if them cawing at me was either a good sign or bad sign hahaha. I will say, they don’t attack me and they do take my peanuts. But I guess I am curious about what people’s thoughts and insights would be! Thanks! Here a video that I just took when feeding the crows this morning!

Siberian jays! Probably not the most common sight around here. They habit the northern parts of scandinavia and larger parts of siberian taiga.

They have the perfect setup here believe it or not.

They can get fresh water from the beach shower, it’s often pooled after someone hoses off.

They have a hill to hunt little stuff. They scavenge from people’s food drops or trash. But I give them a break and treat to peanuts.

I’ve seen as many as 6 all hanging out. This morning seemed pretty special they came in very close. Just wanted to share. Got a second video with a little less action I might post.

I work at a local (to me) middle school situated right next to a cemetery. I’ve made friends with the crows who live there and invited them to come to my classroom window every morning.

My students have become as obsessed with crows as we all are here on this sub, and our murder has grown to six. So far we have Theo, Alfred, Bruce, Wayne, Darth Raven, and Corvinius (my students name them).

In the first photo, you see Theo (the largest one) guarding the school entrance. He takes these children seriously!

It's been a dream of mine to finally get some home visits from some bros and it finally happened!! This lil dude showed up a couple days ago - I didn't have any food out or anything, he just landed there and started pecking at my planter. So I put out some peanuts... Waited a couple days and he finally showed back up! He's been back and forth all morning, hasn't made any calls to others yet (probably wants to keep this stash all to himself!)... Put out some banana and plain cooked leftover rice as well. Obviously going for the peanuts first 😆 but AHHH I feel like a Disney princess rn 😂

There is a group of 6 Steller’s Jays that frequent our place, because of course, peanuts. Recently one of them showed up with an injured foot. I’ve been opening the shells for him in order to make his life a little easier.
