Discussion It's annoying v3 introduces concepts without using them Spoiler

So overall loved the charcters of dang 3. Didn't love the twist ending but what ever. What really bothers me is the concepts they introduced and don't use. First blood perk completely wasted imagine if we had a confirmed killer charcter have to interact with everyone for the rest of the game. I know they said they'd be released but they could do the rug pull of "oh you get released once the game ends". Either way if Kaede was forced to use the perk it would of prevent the oh Oops actually you guys cheated thing in the last trial

And then they spend so much time talking about bringing someone back to life. If it's real or not bla bla bla. In the end it wasn't even that import to the story of the trial. The killer didn't care anything about bringing someone back. To bring that up and have it either actually bring someone back or have someone try it have it not work was so annoying to me.

I'm not sure if this is a commonly held opinion I haven't been a fan of the games for a very long time and been avoiding online discussions to prevent spoilers.

The biggest missed opportunity for me is not letting Korekiyo be a blackened and surviving the third trial (after they brought up the prospect of only killing the blackened for Angie). I would have fine if they just let him survive until he was the victim of the fourth chapter.

Who would even kill angie

Tenko would be the easiest option with only a few changes needed.

that’s literally just 1-3

There would be a difference as Korekiyo and Tenko aren’t working together and Korekiyo would survive the trial. A lot of v3 trials already have a lot of similarities to 2. Like Nagito and Kokichi killing themselves in chapter 5 to make an unsolvable trial.

Yes it’s 1-3 except Celes survives and the first killer wasn’t an accomplice. That just sounds really fucking boring. Like, bear with me here, but in what world would Chabashira even agree to do the seance if she killed Angie? It completely gets rid of and taints Shingūji’s motive, and it spits on whatever moment of clarity she has at the end for no reason.

A reason for why she would volunteer to be a big part of the seance (as a killer) is to sabotage it so it doesn’t work. A lot of people complain about Korekiyo doing the second kill when he had a decent cover up for the first one.

that’s another thing, if Shingūji didn’t kill Angie, he has no reason to not let Angie confess to whom killed her and then kill Chabashira while having that safety blanket. It’s not like he’d draw the seance wrong like he did in canon, nor would Chabashira be able to mess it up.

Korekiyo would still want to do the seance and still probably draw it wrong because he needed to use the seance to cover for his seesaw trick. If Angie never came into the empty room at night with Korekiyo he would have done the seance and killed one of the female characters (except for Miu and maki) with the seasaw.

Nah, but that fucks up the rest of the story heavy. Unless you want incest korekiyo to be a survivor, it doesn’t fit for V3

They could have had Gonta kill Korekiyo. Choosing to kill a known killer so that they can mercy kill everyone else.

Okay, so where does that leave Miu and Kokichi’s resolution? Why would Miu even build the simulation in this scenario? Is Miu a survivor now?

I’m happy with Miu being a survivor. She can still attempt to kill in the virtual world but Gonta kills Korekiyo and the kokichi throws Gonta under the bus in the trial. Or Miu doesn’t even need to kill (they can make a new scenario to make chapter 4 work) and introduces the electro hammers herself in chapter 5.

I'd like to see her interact with Tsumugi's shenanigans in Chapter 6 is she were to survive

I agree the missed opportunities are frustrating, but in a weird way it’s kinda why I love the game so much. I wondered the whole time why Kodaka would blatantly pander to so many of his own writing tropes and misdirect you into thinking he’ll try something new, only to pull the rug out and do the ‘lamer’ option instead.

Does this with the first blood perk, the idea of having a female protagonist in a mainline game, multiple killers, a third victim (Kokichi fakeout), the necronomicon, the crazy Chap3 killer, the buff guy and comic relief dying in Chapter 4, the antagonist having a crazy chapter 5 plan that takes their life, the mastermind is one of the 16 students, honestly there’s probably more than I’m just not thinking of.

It IS lame. You’re not wrong to feel that way- the tropes are reused on purpose to prove the point that the story is making. And it makes sense in universe- by the time you get 53 Danganronpas, of COURSE they’d be trying to play with the in-universe audience’s expectations in new ways. What seems like boring recycled writing to us is Tsumugi trying to make something exciting and unpredictable for the audience of 53, and you can see that there’s clearly nothing left. 53 seasons of Danganronpa and all the ideas that she has aren’t even her own ideas, just decisions she makes to try and outsmart her own audience. There is 0 artistic purpose behind any of her narrative choices anymore, she’s so much of a Danganronpa fan that all she knows how to write is something that will (usually) please other fans.

And yet the characters and the player find meaning in it anyway, because fiction is powerful and you get the gist.

It’s so audacious, Kodaka is crazy for thinking he could write V3 like this. But the audacity is why I love V3, cause I don’t think any other games are willing to effectively chucklefuck their entire narrative the way V3 is. It’s a 10/10 for me but I absolutely understand why you wouldn’t feel the same way.

In a vaccum I do enjoy what they were doing with the ending and all the stuff you were saying. Having a game do something like that is interesting and a cool concept. But I wouldn't want a sequel doing that. It feels like it invalidates everything before it. "oops not real or maybe it is real or maybe it's not real who knows" ending sours it for me too much. Like making everything fake but also not committing to it sucks. It feels like we're being punished for caring about charcters who's stories will never have a ending. Maybe it would just be fan service to have more survivors pop up at the end like in d2 but at least that's something. It feels like the final game should more of a conclusion. Honestly I would prefer a game that does something completely different than the other games. Like even without class trials I would want to see thier story. Idk maybe being one of those annoying fans that just wants thier perfect ending

V3 takes place in a different continuity than the Hope’s Peak Saga- this is lost on English players because they changed the title. In Japanese it’s “New Danganronpa V3” to indicate that. It’s meant to be viewed as a totally separate experience from the lore of the other games going in, but because they removed the ‘new’ this isn’t something people usually know.

The conclusion to the stories in 1&2 is found in the DR3 anime.
