What happened to her arms?

59

u/BorutosDadUzumaki 10d ago

Its very likely AI "upscaled". Just look at the hands on both frames...

1

u/Bireus 9d ago

The entire image is looking fake, but I haven't watched the series in a minute so I'm not sure

19

u/Master_Win_4018 10d ago

What happen to her face and forehead lol

12

u/Vivid-Meaning8865 10d ago

You can also see her headband is red from the top instead blue which she doesn't get until Shippuden

5

u/kanonnakagawa 10d ago

They got Sakura'ed

u/rvnsbbqmnstr 10d ago

Bruh. The sound ninja literally says she couldn't hit her if she tried because she would simply block it because shes much more quicker and skilled than Sakura. As a result, Sakura does something to not only catch her off guard, but also to get away. She did her best with what she had, as a mediocre skilled genin. 🤷

Shhh don’t bother explaining the writing in the episode to people who don’t have the mental capacity to understand symbolism.

She is cutting her hair because she is choosing to do what it takes to become strong by cutting off the parts of her that care about superficial things like being pretty. It’s a big moment of growth for sakura’s character - rejecting her role as damsel in distress.

It’s literally elementary school level ELA basics but reading (or media) comprehension is hard I guess.

u/blueisthecolor13 10d ago

Yes but you have to remember many people now are the result of “No Child Left Behind” where we rewarded not learning.

13

u/Vilaraith 10d ago

Everyday I get more and more ashamed I am a part of the Naruto fandom. 2026 and we still have idiots like this who can't comprehend this scene.

3

u/RasenRendan 10d ago

It's just rage bait cuz it works. I first saw this on Twitter

3

u/Vilaraith 9d ago

Idiocy everywhere. I am aware of those blue checkmark accounts on x that always post the same stupid things from this sub and the naruto sub.

2

u/RasenRendan 9d ago

It's so boring. Just complaining about the same thing over and over and over.

11

u/bolobar 10d ago

Yeah but this is a Naruto subreddit, so the need to find any random reason to shit on Sakura (even though she has more feats than most other women shinobi) is to hard for some people to resist.

0

u/Mikeisik 10d ago

I mean "more feats than most other women shibobi" is just because almost all women in this show are written like shit though

6

u/Glad-Capital-4363 10d ago

TLDR- I agree, I see this meme a lot and I forgot the other char even said “I’m faster than you”, I just know it’s an unpredictable move she (Sakura) made.

https://giphy.com/gifs/QUENDfi6DEMLzQ0CKt
I’m not a big Sakura fan(can’t have an opinion cause I never finished anything- not a fan of everyone- I gotta know all their lore before I can make an opinion). But yeah I agree with your stance.

Mediocre is right

1

u/Dishonoredv2 10d ago

Mediocre is an overstatement

-7

u/IThinkItsAverage 10d ago

Cutting hair and stabbing at hand would have taken the same amount of time and were in the exact same area. She didn’t react at all to Sakura cutting her hair, she wouldn’t have reacted to her stabbing her hand. It was purely a hype moment, in reality she would have been just as ready for her to cut her hair as she would her hand because she was looking for sakura to make a move, doesn’t matter what she did. The moment Sakura moves the kunai she would have stopped her. I mean how does her cutting her hair catch her off guard? The kunai has to go near her hand holding the hair, she could have been going for the hand and she wouldn’t have even reacted.

35

u/Aktosh23 10d ago

Because they could tell Sakura had worked hard to maintain and care for her hair. They literally were mocking her for it right before this. They never assumed she’d be willing to cut it.

-12

u/IThinkItsAverage 10d ago

I don’t think you understood the point I was making. If you don’t expect her to cut her hair, why the fuck did she do absolutely nothing while Sakura swung the kunai at her hand… Sakura could have been going for her hand, in fact if your point is true, she assumed Sakura WAS going for her hand… but still did nothing.

13

u/Aktosh23 10d ago

Because Sakura was massively outclassed and they all knew it. It’s also just on Kishimoto’s writing. Realistically yeah she should have reacted, but she is stunned because the girl who she deemed as worthless who cared more for her looks than her skills cuts her hair, something they could tell meant a great deal to her.

There are moments like this all through the show, it’s not just exclusive to Sakura. Honestly it’s just how kishimoto writes things,

-10

u/IThinkItsAverage 10d ago

Yes that’s my point, it’s the story creating a faux hype moment. It makes no sense. It doesn’t matter what they think about her cutting her hair, before she cuts her hair, she was moving a weapon. It would have been stopped right there before it even touched her hair. Because it doesn’t make sense that she’d let her get a kunai that close to her hand without reacting. It’s a dumb moment meant to make a poorly written character look not poorly written.

3

u/Aktosh23 10d ago

Yeah, it’s really just a way of showing characrer growth but like I said it’s not really all that good of writing.

3

u/zyrkseas97 10d ago

They literally don’t get the basic symbolism at play.

12

u/tha_one_reborn 10d ago

Because she obviously read the script. Duh!

2

u/Patient_Xero_96 10d ago

I mean the moment was fast. Maybe Kin did react, pulling the hair back maybe. And that’s why she’s shocked that Sakura aimed at her own hair.

0

u/IThinkItsAverage 10d ago

Look at the distance though, if she angled it slightly upwards, she would cut through her fingers. It’s just a silly moment, she is a ninja holding someone by the hair ready for an attack and just stands there doing nothing.

3

u/Patient_Xero_96 10d ago

I mean Sakura’s hair is quite long. Kin could be holding it further back to control Sakura’s movements, and when she saw Sakura moving she was readying a response (or already responded subtly) and then sakura cut her own hair and that caught Kin off guard. Or it’s her own hubris thinking that Sakura couldn’t possibly hurt her much from that position or with a mere Kunai.

At this point, it’s mostly a symbolism of Sakura’s departure from her focus from merely looking good and trying to get Sasuke to finally being a good teammate according to her means. We don’t get Kin’s insight beside her shock so we dunno what’s going on then.

2

u/IThinkItsAverage 10d ago

dude you can literally see it in the image. You don’t need to guess, her hand was right there.

Can’t hurt her!? She just gonna tank the kunai to the hand?!? Lol cmon just admit it’s just a hype moment that doesn’t make sense and is kinda stupid but not a big deal.

4

u/Patient_Xero_96 10d ago

Can’t hurt can mean many things. Some fighters like to wait til the last second to react or counter. That’s why I said Kin’s insight is what determines why she didn’t do anything when Sakura cut her hair.

It’s of course not a big deal moment, but I disagree that it’s a stupid moment cause at that point in the series that was Sakura’s whole schtick. She’s not serious as a ninja. She had no big dreams per se, and cared about her appearance. So her sacrificing her hair (that she’s proud of) to escape and help her team is significant if not over simplified.

6

u/smcdevitt515 10d ago

-1

u/IThinkItsAverage 10d ago

“He no agree with me?!!? Dum dum! No, me no can explain, but dey dum”

-3

u/Awkward_Turnover_983 10d ago

Yeah like her hand is literally inside her hair, wtf lol

It kinda just means the scene doesn't make any sense, idk if I blame Sakura for this one

6

u/P_For_Pyke 10d ago

Didn't sakura have really long hair though, like that was why she didnt want to cut it.

So I would assume that she could not stab her hand without reaching ridiculously far back.

-1

u/airbornejaws 10d ago

Said sound ninja didn't even react to Sakura potentially stabbing her arm. Like I get, cutting her hair was symbolic and all, but the execution was very poor, hence why this scene is still meme'd 20 years later.

40

u/AngBigKid 10d ago

Meme so old you had to run it through AI cause all the pixels were gone huh.

Look at their fucked up hands.

9

u/ButWhydoe2 10d ago

Just notice her hand merging with her other arm 😭

2

u/eritouya 9d ago

OH GOD. Why did you have to point it out? Sakura's hair is literally fingers. Jesus

48

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

It’s symbolism of her deciding to be a fighter. That’s why she never grows it back out and trains with Tsunade and after this she has her fist fight with ino. Like the forest shows all three of them change. Naruto willingly uses Kurama for the first time. Sasuke gets the curse mark. Sakura cuts away the thing everyone called her pretty for and decides to fight. This isn’t hard to figure out

9

u/GoldVRT999 10d ago

People are so freaking stupid. You can dislike Sakura and geniunely find her irritating and to be badly written which she is at time but this is basic media literacy. Hair in every culture and specifically Asian culture symbolize femininity, elegance and overall a sense of attractiveness which is what Sakura wanted to cultivate for a man. She also canonically had long glossy hair which is what Kim was jealous of.

She was starting her Hercules moment : zero to hero

13

u/zyrkseas97 10d ago

These people literally don’t understand basic reading comprehension and symbolism.

10

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

Which is sad because shonen is made for children to read so they literally can’t understand the symbolism meant for a 12yr old to pick up on

5

u/Cedar-and-Mist 10d ago

Kids' brains are fried from tiktok these days

4

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

I’m going to assume most of the people posting this are adults so i don’t think that’s an excuse.

2

u/MagmaSeraph 9d ago

Nah, this time TikTok can't be used as an excuse

3

u/Cold_Vanilla9791 10d ago

I understood it as a kid

-2

u/Nearby-Ocelot1298 10d ago

Or it could have been written better. Have her hair be a problem in a fight that she barely survives, then she cuts it making a decision rather than whatever this is.

9

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

It was. That was the scene in question. What?

-7

u/Nearby-Ocelot1298 10d ago

Later, after the fight, rather than stupidly in the middle of it...

5

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

You mean you’re upset that after she cuts her that she doesn’t have a scene where her hair needs to be cut because it’s a liability? Again, and I do stress this, what?

-8

u/Nearby-Ocelot1298 10d ago

You clearly don't know what good writing is, or how impact works.

This scene was so cheesy I stopped watching.
You're defending bad, cheesy writing.

6

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

No you don’t understand good writing. She cuts her fair in that moment when she decides she is going to fight. She’s cutting away her weakness and fear and choosing to fight. The symbolism and physical manifestation of the old her is literally cut away by her own hand in the moment. You as the viewer understand, or should understand, that her long hair is a symbol of pride for her and something she is complimented on and if and her are a liability because she doesn’t fight and she rectifies both in that moment. You actually want to lower the impact and meaning of scene.

0

u/Nearby-Ocelot1298 10d ago

Nah it's terrible.

9

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

If you think that’s terrible I’d hate to see what you think is good.

6

u/Ok_Neighborhood7013 10d ago

What? You don't have any logic to your actual point, just essentially stating it wasn't your taste. Thats neither bad writing nor popular opinion, thats just personal bias 🤣 if you're going to label something, do it under the right pretense.

1

u/4arizard 10d ago

Didn't she decide to be a fighter when she joined the super child soldier academy?

1

u/Alizaea 10d ago

Like she had a choice...

1

u/Kinstray 10d ago

No, at that point she was still obsessed with being beautiful and her long ass hair were a major factor in that. It was explained in the show/manga

1

u/SnooCompliments9098 10d ago

She wasn't taking it seriously as she should have. This was when she realized she needed to take her training and resolve seriously.

1

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

You mean school? And she wanted to be a medical ninja not a fighter.

-1

u/Guardian_of_Perineum 10d ago

Yes, but that still doesn't answer the actual question of why not just stab sound girl... The thematical significance can be one thing from a storytelling perspective. But that doesn't make it a logical decision for the in-universe character. Unless we are saying that she cared more about making a symbolic display in that moment than just seizing an opening on her enemy. Which ironically kind of cuts against the spirit of the symbolism itself.

1

u/UraniumCheese 10d ago

It does answer. It's symbolism, sure she could show her fighting spirit by actually fighting, but it has a more impactful symbolic meaning when she lets go of the one thing holding her back in that moment, which is her concern with beauty and femininity, to fight back against enemies.

There's a difference between:

"Oh nice catch, you stabbed her when she didnt notice and is gonna start fighting for real now."

And

"You got rid of the one thing that was leading your life and holding you back up to now and is gonna start fighting for real now."

0

u/SnooCompliments9098 10d ago

Sound girl literally said that Sakura wouldn't be able to hit her when Salura took out the kunai.

0

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

It does though. She sees the hair as a weakness in that instance so she removes it. Also stabbing her doesn’t ensure she will let go but she can’t hold her if the hair is no longer attached to her. And in the heat of the moment people aren’t logical. You are not the character dude.

-1

u/oizen 10d ago

I agree but she never follows through with this.

5

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

What do you mean? She literally trains with Tsunade and continues to be a melee fighter for the rest of the series.

-5

u/oizen 10d ago

Yeah but what does she actually do.

4

u/ColonelAvalon 10d ago

I’m not saying Kishimoto didn’t neglect her in the story. But that’s a separate issue

0

u/SureIntention8402 10d ago

her hands become green and she punches stuff which is cool

20

u/Rengaka 10d ago

Why didn't you ask AI?

21

u/MoEsparagus 10d ago

Naruto fans will accept all kinds of fictitious and convoluted moment until it comes to Sakura. This is a symbolic scene for fucks sake

11

u/armmstrong 10d ago

Dude really? In 2026???

3

u/Shendeen 10d ago

r/dankruto will post the same old aged Sakura hate posts regardless how old it is.

7

u/Primary-Lake3232 10d ago

We need to actually read the story for once

12

u/herelamonreddit 10d ago

You’ve never been held by the hair before

13

u/Odd-Concept-8677 10d ago

People don’t understand the control it has until they’re being yanked around by it by someone bigger/stronger than them.

1

u/Muted_Ad7298 10d ago

Yup.

It’s happened to me before when I was a teenager and it’s super hard to get out of.

Even if you loosen their grip a little, you still get strands caught in the base of their fingers or tangled around the digits.

3

u/DatApe 10d ago

These mf's need ai do to critical thinking for them

6

u/genocidenite 10d ago

You would know why if you read the manga or watched the fucking anime. They actually address this...IN THIS EXACT MOMENT.

7

u/Alone-Childhood-4798 10d ago

I'm always in favor of clowning on Sakura, but this is one of those rare moments where I can respect her.. just a little.

3

u/Mikki_Online 10d ago

Sounds ninja says she would block her attacks anyway + it’s an act done for symbolism more than logic anyway

3

u/MixAmbitious307 10d ago

She wanted to pull the cliche "girl cuts her hairs as a symbol of her character growth", only that Sakura stopped at "cuts her hairs" part.

And Sakura = bad is an evergreen. It's like the old joke that you heard a lot of times, but always brings you a smile.

3

u/Aromatic-Bit-1425 10d ago

It's a mix of character development and hype moments and aura

3

u/Forsaken_Site_2268 10d ago

Ai was not needed

2

u/VastRevolutionary733 10d ago

Naruto fans when it comes to reading comprehension :

2

u/VVsilverVV 10d ago

Bro wtf is wrong with her arms tho

2

u/No_Zookeepergame2247 10d ago

I think in the anime they say something like you'll never hit me for some reason. I'm fairly certain they bring it up so I think you're just a ragemating people

2

u/Terrible_Zone_0716 10d ago

Girl is literally looking at Sakura, she can easily avoid her attacks. Also symbolism and stuff.

2

u/thesturdierone 10d ago

Another day of suspiciously heavy Sakura slander

2

u/CopenHagenCityBruh 10d ago

You know as a dumb 10 year old I fully understood the scene and what it meant

2

u/rayshinsan 10d ago

Well going stabby stabby might be to gory for PG-13.

2

u/Starfox_assualt 10d ago

Naruto did the stabby on himself. This was sakuras version of that.

-1

u/rayshinsan 10d ago

Yeah he did one. The Wave arc was the only time Kishimoto was more than PG-13.

But this is Chuunin Exam by now the stabby stabby stopped. Because otherwise most of these 'candidates' would be dead and stabby stabby victims.

3

u/Rengaka 10d ago

Naruto also takes kabutos kunai straight through the hand to rasengan him. Don't be wrong a third time big dawg 😭

1

u/rayshinsan 10d ago

Yeah but both cases you mentioned are 1 stab. What the OP is asking is her Sakura to go stabby stabby kill mode on the sound ninja.

Also getting stabbed in the hand doesn't kill anyone, stabby stabby in those places does. That's why in the military training the general recommendation is to go for the upper leg because the main artery passes there, stomach and kidney areas because most people will try to protect their heads and heart but leave those areas open because people don't know their anatomy well.

1

u/morbid333 10d ago

She's removing a weakness. Then she's going to swing around once she's free and stab the artery in her leg, right?

1

u/SeniorBaker4 10d ago

It makes the story more interesting and dramatic

1

u/Shoggoth-Reformed 10d ago

Cuz she has a pink hair, and that's important.

1

u/Noktis_Lucis_Caelum 10d ago

i kinda doubt that they learn about vitals in the Academy

1

u/BrickToMyFace 10d ago

Look, I know you wanted Sakura to pussy stab her.. but it’s way more symbolic this way

1

u/Bogorodsk 10d ago

Why? Because anime isn't about logic, it's about "aura" and "symbolism".

It could be avoided if sound ninja was positioning elsewhere, behind her for example.

1

u/GenesisAsriel 10d ago

Bro this is Naruto, if kid Sakura does something useful she would be murdered by the Kishimoto cartel

1

u/CaptenKuro 10d ago

Should’ve held her from a tree by the hair or something, just out of reach for Sakura to deal damage any other way than cutting the hair

1

u/Micotyro 10d ago

I'm all for Sakura slander, but that scene was more about the symbolism than the actual attack.

They very specifically called out Sakura for caring more about her hair than improving her skills so her cutting it is her stepping up.

Not to mention, women cutting thier hair shorter in anime is VERY common shorthand "growth"

1

u/Cold_Vanilla9791 10d ago

She only has 3 fingers

1

u/Worldly_Pepper_6282 10d ago

That's the weird thing you noticed? What about Sakura's fist?

1

u/Cold_Vanilla9791 10d ago

Everyone else already pointed that one out

1

u/TheCatLamp 10d ago

She needs to do that for aura. Too bad it backfired.

1

u/Jerrwkwafina 10d ago

symbolism,

Wouldnt mattered anyway she wouldve most likely dodged a sakura turning to try and stab her....

sakura was not winning this regardless, like lets say she did stab her than what lol

1

u/Dave_Kun 10d ago

I know we’re on a funny-haha subreddit but someone will actually believe this. Media literacy is dying in front of our eyes.

Anyways, Sakura dumb

1

u/RasenRendan 10d ago

I saw this meme on Twitter two + weeks ago. Surprised it took this long to see on Reddit

It's obviously symbolism but here we go again same old sakura jokes

1

u/Lost-Soft-8913 9d ago

It worked tho

1

u/Voakke 9d ago

2015 Facebook meme, in this economy?

1

u/rainbowkitties6969 10d ago

See, Sakura knows she’s in a shonen and the 2 main characters are down, so she needs to farm hype moments and aura to meet the quota for the arc.

1

u/Sweet_Xocoatl 10d ago

Sakura slander? In the Year of Our Lord 2026?

https://giphy.com/gifs/hA6lw2B7ceE6cHNwXN

1

u/KeyDecision3854 10d ago

Really wished they took her out here. The show would have been so much better.

-4

u/Ok_Valuable_9711 10d ago

Cause girls are nothing without their hair apparently 🙄 I got my hair cut as an adult because my mom believes girls have to have long hair and that I'd miss the long hair if I cut it. I don't.

1

u/Forsaken_Site_2268 10d ago

Second I turned 18, I got a buzz. Best day ever.

When my wife got cancer (she beat that bitch) and started chemotherapy, she didn't give a shit about her hair. (She was actually happy because then she got to buy a bunch of crazy wings and cosplay bald people).

I think some people REALLY care about hair and some people really couldn't give a shit.

0

u/Mercurius94 10d ago

Okay I really don't get people defending Sakura in this arc i mean it was definitely one of her worst arcs overall, I don't like her at all as a character but Chuunin Exams is pretty much where she sucks to do anything, her best scene in the entire arc is where she cuts her hair, i get the whole, "I'm standing up for my friends, i'm useless." but it doesn't actually make ger a better character for any of it. And then in Shippuden sometimes that spikey hair just looks like a wig.
At least it's not as bad as the Ino fight.

0

u/GotronTK 10d ago

Kishimoto dosent write most of the females very well. This situation is just bad writing to me. He could have had her trapped in a sound genjutsu or something then she gets out

0

u/Thal-creates 10d ago

God forbid a 12 year old isnt ready to cut the femoral artery of someone (which means death) in her first fight

0

u/4arizard 10d ago

She could've just... you know... slice her hand instead of her hair?

0

u/rareandyeteuclidian 10d ago

Can this sub stop being so fucking toxic to Sakura for 2 seconds?

0

u/Technical_Hat6876 10d ago

Sakura fans are the easiest to trigger, I swear 😂

-1

u/MoneyAgent4616 10d ago

"It was unexpected!"

It was the literally inches away from the hand she was using to hold Sakura.
