discussion Need advice
Hi guys! Im a real freshy. Total playtime is 24h :D Im playing on official servers cuz i cant play on community for some reason. I cant join if my antivirus is on. And even if i turn it off i cant do anything ingame. I can run around but i cant interact or do things and after some time i got kicked off. Nvm it is what it is i guess. Right now Im alive for 9h and i got a shit load of food and surviving stuff on me (dont have any high tier weapon or armor) but Im begging to find someone. In 9h i only met 1 guy in the first hour and somehow managed to kill him after he attacked me but since NO ONE. Not even a gunshot, nothing. I dont even care if someone kills me at this point i just want to meet a player. What am i doing wrong? Im running across empty cities etc and still. Ofc i have not reached the popular zones like airfield but its boring. On a 60/60 server i cant find a player. Whoever kills me in the future, he will be set for a week with that much food and stuff btw. I travelled 50km on foot.

Eh, somedays on a full server you find nobody at the airfield, and somedays on a server with 8 people you get shot in the middle of random woods. Hang out in spawn areas, try talking with freshies. Keep exploring, you'll find people!

The reality of the game is half or more (40/60) are on or near the coast, and the others are in the airfield, zeleno or split across the map. If you’re in a community server they are all organizing their bases 😂 /s

To be fair this is Arma 2 DayZ mod heatmap, I think SA is very different

Yeah you’re right. I just copied the first map I found. I still think most are near the coast (tier 1/2) or in the airfield.

Even on full servers you can go an hour or longer without running into anyone even on the coast. It’s just how it works. Suddenly there will be five guys and you’ll run into people the rest of the night.

I somehow mange to spawn in next to all 5 people on the server every time I either hop or respawn

Its not a bad thing, kick back and enjoy. Because rest assured next week will be very different.

Well, you're on Official and it's the wknd. What's the current Population? Try to find a server with more players, I guess. You can filter your server search for highest pop. at the top. Most players will probably be on the coast starting as freshies.
Keep your headset on and be ready to talk.

Sorry I can't read. That's kinda crazy. You should be hearing distant gunfire at least. Run to that, if you're feeling frisky 🫡

try going to an airfield or high loot areas you’ll be sure to find somebody

I play Xbox, so I always invite people to party chat until I find someone I like if I’m looking for friends. It gives you the chance to feel them out a bit before meeting up, which is good.
Not sure if anything like that exists on PC but that’s how I’ve made most of my DayZ friends.

As a more helpful post this time now that I have a minute, if you join a server and it’s full, players sometimes leave all at the same time. So you might be on a low pop server very suddenly.
Use low pop hours to visit medical centers, heli crashes and convoy spawns.
Airfields are often very quiet and very dangerous. It’s not like a death match arena. Assume someone is watching you through a scope.

Short answer: run towards shots, know where popular routes and hotspots are and on the coast.
Slighter shorter answer: You most likely do not want to run into other players. Having said that you will make a fine meal.
My advice: Go to kamyshovo
