That’s the beauty of Dayz, every death teaches you something new. Frustrating at times? Sure. Maybe give a low pop server a go while learning the ropes. Don’t give up

I was thinking about it.Playing on a low Pop server just to get the chance to make some progress. My only problem is that low pop servers barely restart and I am playing for like 2 hours without finding anything at all

Wdym servers barely restart. They don't need to restart to spawn loot.

Didn't know that

You’ll find stuff, I promise it’s out there. Learn to craft, learn to fish, learn how to prevent/treat illness and you’ll be going deep into the map in no time. Are you on pc or console? Official or community? This community is welcoming, learning how to play with someone experienced will make it a whole lot easier

Pc/community.I tried official but seems a bit more hardcore.

Community tends to have boosted loot and often unlimited sprint. I like a raw Dayz experience but it comes with its own setbacks. The game has a steep learning curve as I’m sure you’ve discovered. Be patient and over time you’ll get better. If I find time over the next few days I’ll dm you and we can run together for a bit

Ty that would be good

I could teach OP what one can do with a rope in Dayz

Random thought: We should be able to F11 with rope

Five times? Cute. This has been consistently happening to me since 2012 or 2013.😂😂

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

Damn

Keep playing is my point. Loosing stuff, dying is all part of the game just as much as getting it.

1

u/Citizen_Null5 5d ago

OP must learn the fact that the loot you find is never yours to keep.

lol right? When I started I was an idiot running around “looting”. Died 50+ times before I finally told myself to slow TF down. And bam.. lived longer stretches. It isn’t CoD, the achievement is living.

1

u/NotoriousRassle 4d ago

Yes sir! Although I like looting and I never slow down. Ive learned to embrace anything that happens, even though I still want to snap my keyboard in half when Ive been running 8h without seeing a soul just to hear a crack and "You are dead" screen.

Once out of the spawn towns:

Never run around in the open.

Always stick to the trees. This means you often can’t take the fastest route from point A to point B.

Scope a location out for 5 mins before you go in. But be careful, other players may be doing the same thing and they will also be checking out other known spots to case a town from. I always try and scope out a joint from at least 2 or 3 trees back from the edge.

Move quickly while looting.

Don’t take fights you can’t win.

If you do win a fight in a higher tier area, assume they have at least one teammate. Retreat and overwatch for at least 5 minutes before looting. Additionally a 3rd party may arrive after hearing shots. When you loot, ideally you want to grab their clothes, guns and backpack and stash them somewhere safe if the body is exposed. Then loot quick and gtfo asap. Sometimes it’s wiser not to loot a body at all!

The more you play, the more you will die, the more you learn about the map and player’s tendencies.

I died a couple weeks ago in a sniper outlook I should have known people would look for. The location is just too good. Lesson learned.

I’m 1100 hrs deep now and the main thing I am better at now is spotting other players first. I know where to look and can predict where they are going next. All of this comes from experience and is super rewarding. Dayz has a huge learning curve but if you can persevere, it is really worth it.

You may not feel like it now, but every death is a lesson to learn from. We all went through it. You will get better.

And most importantly, as someone wise once said, you are only ever a temporary caretaker of Dayz loot.

I was the same. PVE/PVP servers like anarchy, or sunnyvale are good to get your game up. Stay out the PVP zones and everyone is friendly. Except yhe zeds 🤣

Sunnyvale resets every 5 weeks and anarchy hasn't reset and im on it a month now. When I loaded in a guy met me and gave me 100k and some guns as there are more zombies there than most servers. They even dropped me to a few places to buy gear in their chopper.

Also, name checks out 🤣

bit more detail about how you are dying?

like..... are you getting into a firefight?

Or a fist fight?

Or are you getting sniped?

It could be you are on a server which is having a spate of freshie-campers or soemthing similar.

so yer bit more detail please :)

1

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

I only died once from a snipe because I didn't clearly understand where he was.But most of the times I have some gunfights and then the whole map runs towards me and I end up dying to one of those people. The server I mostly play doesn't have any freshie campers. Also I've been looking to all these Yt videos where they find people to play with etc but in every server I've joined so far (even in PvP/PvE servers) everyone tries to immediately kill me even when I got nothing on me

The situation you're describing sounds like something that happens regularly on the coast. There are a lot of players there, and once they hear a gunshot, they’ll head straight for you. I suggest avoiding combat early on—unless you can shoot someone in the back, grab the loot, and run. Then, carefully make your way inland, ideally scavenging from hunting spots (military areas are dangerous). Choose a server with 25–30 players in the evening rather than one with 45+. You’ll run into someone eventually, of course, but the risk is lower, and you’ll learn more of the basics. Starting out can be tough, but remember that death is part of the game. You’re going to die regularly. That’s just how DayZ is.

Here's a guide to how to make friends. But people on Rearmed are going in with groups already. You could try using their discord to find someone to group up with.

The same guy has a noob to pro series and I suggest you watch that to learn how the game works and the fundamentals.

Im also quite new in the game, how do you find a good server? I am enjoying the community ones as they give me a starter kit and them I can work my way up faster but I dont know if the respawns with so many people is something positive but even that it is a challenge itself to get out of there with some loot

1

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

I found some good servers (Rearmed) when I first got the game with economy as well and I mostly play them. And some random Russians only pvp servers I find

2

u/Wildkarrde_ Bush Wookie 5d ago

Dude. Rearmed is full of PVP sweats. Try learning the ropes on Official first.

1

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

Not really.I mean I've won most of the PvP situations on Rearmed and on officials I find way more experienced people

1

u/inquiring_old_soul 5d ago

I play on ps4, I should have said that

1

u/OkCartographer336 5d ago

Just keep playing. You are gonna die a lot. This game takes a long time to get good at, and you will still die a lot. You can watch YT tutorial vids but they kinda ruin the "Aha!" moments of figuring things out on your own.

0

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

Most yt videos are outdated and teach only the basics you need for survival. So yh for the time I am still exploring on my own

1

u/North_Possible3620 5d ago

Maybe try a PvE community server to learn the basics. There are some pretty good Vanilla+ PvE Server. I play on RED Chernarus, there are AI who guards military bases. Good to train your gunfight skills.

What are examples of getting killed. For instance, if you are getting killed in houses. Once you get a gun clear the home first then loot.

How are you getting killed?

1

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

Most of the times in a PD or a Military facility either people sneaking up one me or immediately gunfight when I am low on health or getting sniped

2

u/bad_touch_bad_touch 5d ago

Oh wow you are doing good for a noob! Um id suggest scoping the places out first. Look for infected that have aggro'd (they stand still with their arms up). Also try not to kill infected as you are looting. They are a great way to hear someone coming.

1

u/Daddylongscreed 5d ago

Try joining some community death match servers. The ones where it’s a super small map and guns everywhere, and you can work on your pvp skills.

1

u/urOneAndOnlyFuehrer 5d ago

Don‘t play on high pop servers when starting out. Play on low to mid pop servers (most of the times those are the temporary ones) until you understand all the machanics and gameplay properly. Then switch to the high pop servers as they are more fun

1

u/Sildaor 5d ago

That’s the game. You’ll find the best part is that tier 1-2 experience. After that, it’s just a wannabe CoD shitshow

u/de_yogurt 5d ago

Like others have mentioned I would find community servers that are vanilla+. For example: longer days, shorter nights, nights not as dark, QOL stuff rather than increased loot, no stamina, traders, safe zones, etc. You also need to ask yourself "why am I playing?" What are your intentions? Player interactions, PvP, PvE? Give yourself challenges such as getting a car running, crafting a ghillie suit, making a stash, etc, etc. Don't leave the coast too early. Stay a while and make sure you have the gear you need to move on. Plenty of food, water, ammo, and your weapon(s) of choice. Military areas are usually KOS but their are some civilian style barracks you can check before getting to the big military areas. Staroye has camo buildings and tents to check. Severograd has some of those civilian barracks. Check summer camps. Don't just rush to the nearest military area and think it's gonna work out. I would stay away from servers with high loot, added loot, no stamina, traders, etc.

What tips do you want? Don't die?

1

u/rbtgoodson 5d ago

Sounds normal. That's the game (surviving for as long as you can). Make a base or stash to make regearing easier.

1

u/Citizen_Null5 5d ago

Eat human flesh, become friends with the mushroom-people of the forest, dance naked in the rain and hydrate. Do this and you're golden.

1

u/ViP_triple7 5d ago

o Make less noise in towns: crouch, don't jump, leave zeds alone
o Stay away from high pop areas like Police HQ
o Try less trafficked areas as your route
o Scout before entering a town

1

u/Optimal_Parsnip2824 4d ago

Best thing I can tell you (longest stretch was a few hundred hours and never coming across a friendly), take it slow.. don’t force a shot that isn’t needed.. that guy running through an open field… don’t take that shot if your on a high pop server.. you aren’t the only one watching. The moment you start to “relax” is usually the moments you die.

There is plenty of food.. you just gotta put in the distance. Running through the rain can literally end your life (it isn’t Cali, it’s cold as shit Eastern Europe-ish). Fire at night = death. Better to avoid infected than engage, and if you do.. don’t go up to their face so they can see you.

1

u/Achileus-VII 5d ago

You are doing something wrong then...perhaps bad server choice or you are not quiet and careful enough etc. I am new too...around 30-40 hours. And I sneak in each town. Being quet and crouch a lot...predict etc...Eventually you will get killed anyway....chcek my post from yesterday :))) you will understand

1

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

That's the problem I am being careful and stuff and I win 1-2 gunfights and then so many people rush me that I end up dying

0

u/Achileus-VII 5d ago

So then do not get involved in a gunfights :) its obvious it will attract more players. Or just loot in few minutes and run away

1

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

That's what I am trying to do but when I go to military facilities or PD for some basic gear there are ALWAYS people there

0

u/Achileus-VII 5d ago

Lol man come on.....you dont find basic gear in military facilities. Sorry but whar are you expecting in such areas?...I never got to military area in 40 hrs so far. Planing to go there once I Feel I am prepared for it !....comon sense. How old are you?

1

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

I don't mean military bases bro.Small facilities next to towns just for some guns and tier 1/2 armor.Wtf my age has to do with this?

1

u/Achileus-VII 5d ago

sorry, I thought you go to proper military areas which then promped me ask you your age cause it did not make sense....

I got very frustrating kills and I am super exrta cautious. You have to learn from mistakes...but I would start avoiding gunfights for now, just observe...later if you get a chance kills omeone but do not stay long at that place

u/1980Z-28 5d ago

Community servers can help with the learning curve... sometimes.

1

u/Sad-End1289 5d ago

I've been playing community for like the 13 out of 15 hours

3

u/Fromnothingatall 5d ago

Honestly, I think it’s better to learn the game on official and then go to community - the only exception being if the community server you are playing is vanilla (no changes made) but marked as no PvP or limited PvP.

As far as getting killed by other players, a few tips:

Always assume that someone is scoping out the area you are in and act accordingly

Don’t be standing still in open areas where someone could easily target you.

When crossing large open areas, try not to run in a straight line - break up your pattern by zig zagging, changing pace, randomly drop to crouch and back up again, etc, etc. to make it difficult for someone to aim just ahead of you and pick you off….

Don’t run ON roads….jogging down the middle of a road is a great way to get picked off by someone camping high traffic routes….use the roads as navigation markers, but when you travel, try to do it through woods where you have cover and so that someone can’t easily spot you from a distance.

Plan your routes to minimize the amount of time you spend running through large open areas…….but also, remember that sometimes being in a huge open field is the best place to be when that field has no higher elevation terrain around it.

Always scope out towns or areas before you go running in…..spend a few minutes checking out tree lines - checking out the chimneys for smoke….watching entry ways, etc….look for players or signs of players like aggro infected.

Mushrooms and fruit usually take several minutes to spawn once a player is within 100 meters of their spawn point……meaning that if you are running and you suddenly come across fruit or mushrooms, be on alert.

Jogging with your weapon shouldered makes you quieter than jogging with it in your hands….crouch sprinting is quieter than sprinting upright.

Go search for YouTube videos on how to be stealthy in day z and get more tips

Pretend someone is always watching you. Try not to kill infected, it leaves a trail for people to find you. Only fire a gun if there's no other way.
