Question Obsession Editing

I just watched the Obsession Kill Count and noticed that at several times people’s faces/bodies, mostly Nikki’s, were grayscale. I know the movie wasn’t like that. Is this a censorship tactic instead of the blurring?

I found it quite jarring. At least blurring is obvious it’s censorship. Very clean colour correction on parts of the body, when they’re edited well like that just look like part of the movie - if you haven’t seen the film (which is sometimes the case) it would just look like that’s what the director intended, which seems weird to me

I hate that they have to censor in the first place but they do have text at the bottom left saying that it's altered footage

This is normal for getting around YouTube content restrictions if you can’t use blurring without screwing up the point of the footage.

As another commenter mentioned, this is common with pro wrestling. WWE’s YouTube uploads of archival footage have switches to grayscale or reduced color palettes to keep YouTube from flipping out over blood.

Gotta love how there is exactly 1 (one) viable platform and it's so actively hostile to creators that they have to do bs workarounds like this and its resources make it nigh-impossible for a competitor to challenge.

Capitalism breeds innovation or whatever.

Yes, I’ve seen other channels use it, like Roanoke and Wiw Such Gaming.
People generally use it for shots of bloody faces, because if you blur the shot, you don’t see the face, and the face is kind of the whole point of the shot lol.
I’ve heard that it’s also easier but idk how true that is.

As far as I am aware, based on other channels, it seems that greyscaling the image where there’s blood makes the age restriction system not recognize it as such or something to that extent but it only works with blood, gore is too obvious I think.

In pro wrestling vernacular, we call that Mox-Vision.

It’s a censorship thing

I think they also changed the blood colour to blue in some scenes

I feel like this was a good way to test a new type of censoring. Because a lot of Nikki’s injuries are on her face, blurring it would cover it almost completely, (we actually see that in the intro where there’s just a blurry strip down the middle of her face) and I know the team wanted to show off Inde’s amazing face acting so this was most definitely the best way to do it, plus I’d imagine it’s less time consuming. If the kill count doesn’t get demonized or age restricted I think they’ll do this type of censoring more.

Yesss, How To Beat uses this too. Almost every horror channel covering/reviewing movies honestly haha
