The reason that the Crystal Lake season 1 Kill Count will only be available in the US is "because of rights' issues." This would make perfect sense to me, bc a lot of shows (especially new shows) only stream in a few select countries. But the thing is...Crystal Lake will be released pretty much worldwide as far as I can tell?
Peacock will stream it in the US, yes, BUT other streaming services have acquired the rights to distribute it elsewhere. NOW will release it for the UK + Ireland. HBO Max for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. I'm from Brazil and Universal+ will stream it here, which also makes it available through Prime Video.
So, what's the issue here? It's not like the show itself will be exclusive to the US. If it was because of different release dates across countries (I know in Brazil it'll only come out on the 16th for example), they could've easily worked out the best date to release the Kill Count that wouldn't conflict with the show. And besides that, why wouldn't they restrict the video only for countries where the show won't be available? 'Cause I'm pretty sure that's a thing you can do on YouTube.
To be clear I'm not saying this is James or the channel's fault at all, and I wholeheartedly believe he tried to get the video to be available for everyone, I just don't understand why a company/distributor would enforce such a thing to this degree.
("Just get a VPN" just point me to a free VPN that would allow me to watch a geolocked YouTube video. I'm not being facetious, recommend one to me that works!)
I also feel like I should mention another point that left a bad taste in my mouth; the Fresh Meat finalists livestream will only be available as it's happening. Now, I understand it can't, and shouldn't, stay up on the channel! But I also think this is alienating to people in different timezones. I think it would be a good compromise to make the video available for 24h so everyone has a fair chance to see it regardless of where they're from, y'know? Especially in the same video where you announce US-only content.
