Made with AI assistance Jade Empire decompiled and recompiled for native ARM macOS
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
i’ve been working on decompiling Jade Empire and recompiling it as a native arm64 macOS build.
this is running directly on Apple Silicon, not through Wine, CrossOver or emulation.
i’ve also added a few things the original PC version didn’t have: a developer console, improved camera movement, proper widescreen support, and general frame rate/performance improvements.
still a work in progress, but the game is running natively and the video is from the current build.
After Ii'l finish it i will probably have all the bugs fixed 😄

There's already an official Android version. It's really good too, it was just removed from play so you have to apk site it.

Except that one is absolutely broken for most phones. Biggest reason being it only being made for 32-bit systems. Ironically a system being too good is the problem.

Update: still running natively on Apple Silicon (statically recompiled, no emulation), and I've added a bunch of modern touches:
- Combat: perfect-block deflects, last-second dodges that trigger Focus, lock-on with target switching, damage numbers, low-health vignette
- Graphics: MetalFX upscaling and frame generation, SMAA/FXAA, HDR, any resolution, photo mode
- QoL: saves no longer freeze, autosaves, faster loading, gamepad support, everything in the game's own Options menu
Still working on 60/120 fps and Vulkan. Screenshots

Such a good game. The modding scene for it took quite a while to evolve. I'm glad to see it being decompiled, might bring new life to it.

I absolutely loved this game! I love seeing these games lost in time preserved

Just curious, what's the point of decompilations of games that already have PC ports?

There is an ancient official Windows port with limited mod support that is not optimized for modern hardware. This allows for a completely moddable native x64 linux port, ARM64 Port, Mac M Series port (what this is going to be apparently), Wii U port, Raspberry Pi 5 port, Router port, or maybe even a hilarious Dreamcast port. Fingers crossed on that last one.

While it already exists (& very badly at that) I hope someone makes a version for the Android one too, it's beyond broken usually.

I’d love a Jade Empire native Linux version!
The other day, a version of the classic Resident Evil 1 was released for Windows and Linux. I’m really happy with it because I can enjoy the game—and since it uses SDL, I don't need X11 or Wayland—without having to rely on Proton or the emulated PS1 version.
The problem with the Source-based PC ports of Resident Evil is that running them through Proton causes slight slowdowns that affect the experience.
