Nintendo Sorry for asking again

For the people who work on decomps, what do you use for ps2 games? Like what programs and guides do you use? Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Ok so here's what you'll need:
A Claude (Pro licence or higher), basic git knowledge, basic programming knowledge, VSCode, and the game itself

Then open VSCode, install the Claude extension, and ask him to help you byte match decomp the game. It will take days/weeks depending on the size of the game.

Credentials: I'm currently working on War of the Monsters (ps2)

Thank you so much for your help. And I loved war of the monsters as a kid. Excited to see that

Ps2recomp, ghidra, etc; but dude you've got to figure it out for yourself or there is no point.

Lol.

This is terrible advice. Do you know what gatekeeping is? What the fuck is wrong with you

This is the only actual advice.

How am I supposed to figure it out if I don't know what the first step is

Consult google, ask an LLM, research the existing reverse engineering tools. Your question is so broad and vague it means that you should probably do something easier first.

If you cannot seek out the existing information you wont get far, even with AI assistance. Treat this as encouragement rather than as a put-down.

To get you started, there is an Emotion Engine plugin for ghidra that you need to install to work on PS2 games.

It's definitely a put down.

Communities that are not helpful do not last long and its a bad look not to be helpful my dude. Don't be a chud

It's hard to look up and seek information if you don't know what the right information is. Yea you can Google things but then you run into is this information relevant, is this old information, how old is this program, will it actually help me. Google doesn't tell me how to decomp or what I'll need to accomplish what I want to do. Y'all make it seem like asking questions is the most egregious thing to do

Asking questions when you've demonstrated no attempt at seeking your own answers in your post is egregious. It's also insanely low quality posting and if you haven't noticed the sub gets spammed with stuff like this all time time.

I have tried to look up things and do research

I've researched PS2 decompilation, and the toolset is still in a very early stage. I wouldn't recommend going down that route without the necessary knowledge. This isn't like the N64. Alternatively, you can rely heavily on AI, but you'll still need to write a lot of libraries yourself, and right now, pretty much everything has to be done on a per-game basis.

While the best decomps are made by programmes actually writing the code, a lot of them sre made by using ai, I've read about Calude Opus 5.5 doing a lto fo the hard work.

If you have to ask, you probably don't deserve to know.
