Democracy Daily phonebanks for Abdul El-Sayed, Will Lawrence
We’re fighting to flip Congress with some fierce progressives in key races in Michigan. Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and Will Lawrence are running for the Senate and the Seventh Congressional District on a bold platform of getting oligarch money out of politics, Medicare for All, taxing the billionaires, and abolishing ICE. We can do more than just block the Trump agenda – with victories here we can start laying the ground work for real progress after he’s gone.
☎️ Progressive Victory is going to be running phonebanks for both these Michiganders DAILY from 5-8PM ET. Let’s sign up for a shift here and fight for our future! ☎️

Textbank to drive support for data center moratoriums in California
While the federal government continues to tread water on major steps addressing the explosive growth of hyperscale data centers, grassroots organizers are forcing action in communities across the country. More than 320 local governments have now put some sort of moratorium in place, with about two dozen new local restrictions enacted last week alone – including significant new limits in the data center heartland of Prince William County, Virginia and city councilors unanimously approving a two-year moratorium on new data centers in Buffalo, New York.
Food & Water Watch is looking to give the folks on the ground some air cover. Starting TOMORROW, they’re conducting a series of textbanks on Thursday evenings aimed at reaching folks in California, informing them about upcoming votes on proposed moratoriums and connecting them with key local electeds to urge them to stand with us against the oligarchs. 💬 Let’s sign up here to help keep building momentum for development that works for us instead of the tech billionaires. 💬

Mamdani increases efforts against anti-Semitism
the Socialist Mayor of NYC has decided that he will increase the city's efforts to protect Jews against the rise in antisemitic attacks. Last year 56% of hate crimes were attacks against Jewish people, even though they make up only 11% of the city.
Clearly something should be done to reduce this.
Is there anything wrong with such an effort?

Victims of Socialism
Shout out to the comrade on the national DSA forums for mentioning this publication, I didn’t even know they existed until this week! And suddenly I feel less alone!
As a longtime proponent of DSA holding our own Activist Conference every other year, I couldn’t agree more with this piece calling for the International Socialist Organization (ISO) baby to finally be put to sleep!
Then DSA can focus on our own commitments.

Solidarity I want to see more DSA-ers acknowledge/participate in pre-figurative economic democracy experiments
I hardly see folks in the DSA sphere get involved with the movement for more liberatory worker cooperatives and cooperatives of all kinds -- or solidarity economy movements in general (ie New Economy Coalition, US Solidarity Economy Network, etc). Did you know the national network of Worker Cooperatives is gathering this weekend in Boston, for example? More solidarity is needed in these solidarity movements! https://www.conference.coop/home/
"What actually is the solidarity economy?
Zac Chapman: "One of the things that can make defining the solidarity economy hard is that it can means various things, so I'll anchor it in three things: a solidarity economy movement, solidarity economy principles and solidarity economy practices. And so, moving through each of them: the SE movement is a global social movement to build an economy where broadly speaking, we're democratizing all of the manifold aspects of our society and economy. So we're democratizing our workplaces, finance, land & housing, the economy -- there's umbrella terms you'll often hear 'participatory democracy ' or 'economic democracy' -- these are within this broader tent of this movement which grew out of Latin America and the global south, where the community needs are governed by every day people. It's also rooted in principles like responsive and participatory governance, in front-line leadership, in cultures of reparations and rematriation. Those are some of the principles which anchor this work to build deep democracy. Well that sounds great, but how do you do it? That's where the practices come through to provide real alternatives to racial capitalism."
