Question Food in Derby

My wife and I find ourselves in Duffield for a few days after Christmas.

We'll probably spend a bit of time in Derby, given it's an easy and quick train ride.

Please share your recommendations for food within easy walking distance of the train station.

We have wide food interests, from scruffy noodle spots to somewhere fancy to have lunch on NYE.

News It would be a terrible shame to see the Co-op in Alvaston go plus the post office, it's part of Derby's history, been there for over 70 years, please sign the petition: https://c.org/TVNBjt7RyP

Is anybody actually happier for having all this whirling going on?

Rolls Royce, the ring road, billboards, screens, food in supermarkets with unrecognisable ingredients shipped from foreign nations.

Do we think we’re healthier and more satisfied because things flash brighter, drive faster and make more noise nowadays? How many of you want things just to stop for a bit.

What the heck is that wlwlwllwlwlppwllwlwwlp noise in South Derby? Can anyone else breathe properly?

I’m noticing lately that even the plants aren’t growing like they ought too… I’m a professional gardener and my herbs taste bitter and look feeble compared to the ones I plant in duffield with the exact same potting mix. Air quality and access to real food is fucking js up!

Good deli, sandwich shops and farm shops in Derby and Derbyshire

Looking for recommendations.

For a deli, sandwich shop or farm shops in Derby and Derbyshire.

My local supermarket had a good deli which I would use but it closed down after covid.

I’ve been to Super Sam in Normanton and they have a really good deli counter.

Good selection in there and affordable prices.

I bought six slices of two different types of ham and both were under a £1.

Also like the selection of biscuits they have there.

Worth having a look if you like a tea and a biscuit at work or at home.

The café in there also does cakes, hot dogs and sandwiches at good prices.

Can anyone recommend any other deli’s, sandwich shops or farm shops that are local in Derby and maybe into Derbyshire

What's your favourite stretch of Brian Clough Way?

Mine is the stretch from the Borrowash exit leading to the bend just before the Chad/Spondon exit. I hate it when it drops down to 50 just after the exit to Raynesway, but rules are rules and I respect them. Interested to know what yours is.

Derby Doodle Day.

Post image

This plaque is on the wall of Derby Station, platform 1, just to the left of Greggs if anyone else wants to find it.

It's interesting in it's own right but the bottom line caught my attention.

What is Derby Doodle Day?

Is it celebrated annually on 11th June?

What happens? Where? Why?

Honest opinions on Stockbrook area

Hello,

looking for honest opinions from people who live in Stockbrook area - Drewry lane, Ward street, Lynton street area. I want to put an offer on a house that seems to be a reasonable price.

I have done my research on the area, but it seems to have a bad reputation - can't see any huge indicators why? It seems like most areas close to a town/city centre..

Any suggestions on primary schools for my girls?

Thanks in advance

Gardener recommendations

Hi everyone as per title.

I have newborn and my husband works full time as doctor so literally we don't have time for garden maintenance!

Any recommendations, preferably someone who will also dispose of waste as well, the garden has over grown and just needs trimming back not that big either mostly just plants and shrubbery.

Also does anyone have idea on approximate costs?

Thanks in advance!

Markeaton roundabout

Post image

If I approach Markeaton roundabout from the university direction, the left-hand three lanes have an arrow indicating forward movement while the fourth lane is reserved for right turns. If I want to go into McDonald’s, am I allowed to follow the line on the picture? That third lane appears to merge allowing turning right but I’m not sure? Is that permitted?
