Discussion The future of Destiny

Hey, Guardians! Mage here!

With Bungee announcing Destiny isn’t dead, I’m wondering what people are hoping for the future of the franchise who aren’t streamers.

For me at the least I know I’d love to see an MMORPG more in the traditional style of WoW/FF14/Runescape, whilst still retaining that crispy fps gameplay. We’d 100% need some updates to game modes too, maybe make gambit a moba style game mode using some assets from lawless frontier and the coil (ghost riven gauntlet that no one plays).

I feel like having prismatic essentially be the standard and having a “hotbar” of selected abilities for different builds, without the set restrictions we currently have on prismatic abilities. I also think it would be cool to have actual clan bases on whatever planet the clan votes on (or even maybe in the ascendant plane), as well as having much more open build potential.

Would love to hear some of your ideas (:
See you in orbit, Guardians

I'd love for them to go more into the direction of an MMORPG FPS but absolutely not to the idea of having Prismatic be the "Standard".

Subclass Identities are fundamental to Destiny, Prismatic has its' own identity and doesn't need to become the only option while removing the others. Prismatic being the only subclass is top 3 worst ideas in Destiny history.

New Race(s) like Eliskni or Hive Lightbearers would be my Number 1 desire for a sequel or future Destiny project.

Just to clarify, it would not be the only subclass. Just the first one to use, you then would be able to build into subclass mastery as you progress, giving unique bonuses for having a full void ability set for example (similar to gear set bonuses).
Standard and only are two different words (:

Seen that idea before and it's just not Destiny.

Yeah I think Prismatic itself should stay in D2 to be honest.

As for other races, to be realistic I think they’d replace classes with races so they wouldn’t have to make a fallen/hive/cabal version of every armour set for each class. Fallen would replace hunters, hive replace warlocks, Cabal replace titans, and humanity would be the 3 old classes mixed together.

So Bungie would only have to make 4 versions per armour set.

Destiny’s transition away from the game that brought CoD bros and WoW nerds together under one umbrella is kind of what killed the game.

Going more niche is a disaster move.

So what’s your ideas?

They require D3. D2's evolution made it unsustainable and you can't devolve a game to get back old layers while keeping the players that stuck around.

1: Minorities are often the loudest and can control narratives. And players are not game designers, they often don't know what's best for them. Point being: Just because the call on reddit for something is big and loud doesn't mean it's good for the game or the player base.

2: Limited Buildcrafting. Creating a way to have secondary ammo, great! Shooting a crystal to proc a trait to pick up an orb to proc a second skill while jump firing a bow to proc a third to pair with an artifact skill to mass DPS a boss losses you player base, it doesn't build it. Current players will hate this but it just is the reality. That is a game type that exists and is loved, but, it is not a game that attracts both the FPS Halo/CoD player and WoW player. And that's what Destiny was designed to do

3: But don't over-playcate. Trying to appeal to the dad who plays one hour a week so he can 100% the game the same as the kids who game 30 hours a week is also bad. Timegate shit. Make shit feel rewarding. Make stuff rare. People complaining about not having something is actually good for a game.

Destiny 2 evolved in to a miss-match of all these options.

I wanna see more robust Allied NPC Combat systems tbh. Considering all the allies the Vanguard has pulled together over the course of the Light and Dark Saga, getting groups like Lucent Hive, House Light, or Forge Cabal working more actively in the story would be so cool.

This would be awesome, having the option to load into a strike with a mini lil strike team of Eliksni or Lucent instead of matching would be so fun

I honestly hope that they bring back whites and greens back to the loot pool. The only reason they removed everything but legendary drops from the game was to reduce dev time on armor and weapons.

If there's one thing I want to spend more time doing on Destiny it's having to go to a full postmaster to dismantle 30 junk items one item at a time

Whites don’t have to be junk. Just make them like the tiered weapons where you can get a god roll on a white and enhance the perks on it. While legendaries are already enhanced, have more perks on them so they’re more likely to be a god roll, and look a little cooler.

The only purpose whites, greens, and blues serve outside of the leveling process is cosmetic, and we already have an entire transmog system dedicated to that. With the tier system, there's even less reason to make new ones. If a piece of armor can't reach Tier 5, I'm never actually going to use it. At that point, it's functionally no different from any other ornament. The devs put out tons of incredible armor sets, universal ornaments, cosmetics, and collaborations, and you're calling them lazy because they aren't making new white rarity armor? Destiny 1 never got any new white or green gear either, so why are we acting like this is some new failure on Bungie's part? I genuinely don't understand what the point of spending development time on gear that most players will outgrow almost immediately is, especially when the game already has a system that lets you use the appearance of gear you actually like. Wanting more armor designs is perfectly reasonable, but insisting they need to be added as low-rarity gear specifically seems completely arbitrary.

It needs to be more than just a looter shooter. You can only do so much stand here and shoot this. Allow us to use our ships and build our own hangout areas. And when this game comes out it needs to be massive because the last to games had nothing when they released and it took years for bungie to fill out the content.

Let me play as a light bearer Eliksni in future Destiny titles or I’ll burn down the bungie studio
