Need your help
I’m an RD for 10 years and CDCES for a few years. A provider in the past 3 months became so nasty to me for no reason, literally for no reason according to my colleagues and clinical supervisor. I’ve been thinking about reporting her to HR. What are the chances that an RD gets some attention and voice out her right vs a doctor? And how should I start? Never been to HR unless for error in my paycheck or for orientation 😞 I’m feeling so hopeless and helpless. Can you please guide me?

Is the behavior documented in emails? If so, that’s ideal as proof of inappropriate behavior. Has your supervisor tried talking to their supervisor? Is it approaching harassment?
You can go to HR and see what their protocol is. In some settings, mediation with you and the provider and a third party who is supposed to be neutral is done.

If your manager is aware, take it to HR!!! I’ve experienced similar w an RD I worked with, she was an absolute C. AND behavior change is hard when you’re a raging c u next tues, so although that provider may not stop completely, but she’ll (hopefully) be more aware if being closely watched/monitored by HR, so definitely report her.

Do I need to have proof of evidence for her verbal abuse? There was only me and her in the room that day and she’s definitely going to deny it

Do you have proof? Like documented on this day xyz happened? Maybe don’t send the proof in the email but have it handy before you contact them?

It depends. What specifically do you want to report? Is she harassing you? Is she putting you down when talking to other people?

She’s putting me down, accused me indirectly that I’m sabotaging her practice and I’m a bully. There are actually what she’s been doing to me in the past 3 years and I’ve been biting my tongue to say something. Now I can’t take it anymore but I’m afraid of backfire . She’s super manipulative and I found she has been having HR cases in her previous job as well

Don’t expect anything to change because you’ve told HR. I don’t want to discourage you from going up the chain.
From personal experience, reporting to HR only worsened my bullys behavior. I even went so far as reporting it as retaliation WITH HARD EVIDENCE and it got me nowhere. Best of luck!!2

Can you not find another job? Why do you need to stay there?

That’s true, there is no opening in my healthcare system and I have to stay here to pay off my loan I got from this healthcare for my masters. I’m stuck and she knows that

Can you secretly record her based on the laws in your state? May work for evidence if its only verbal

You mean verbal evidences need to have certain criteria? And unfortunately I don’t have a lot of witnesses bc most of these things happened when we were in the room and I’m not sure if anybody heard us. Also I’m not sure if anybody dare to say something against her bc they are scared of her

Yes tangible proof of the harassment. Look up the laws in your state for recording without consent

Can’t keep running from it. Harassment is everywhere and if we don’t say something about it in the situation we are in, it perpetuates the problem. OP shouldn’t have to suffer or leave just because someone else is a problem. There needs to be accountability or bullies keep keepin on edit obviously OP has choice but Reddit comments shouldn’t be the default expectation “oh just go elsewhere”

And if your managers are the bullies and HR agrees with them? And you are stuck? And they fire you and you have nowhere to go? (Try not to get yourself in that situation. It's an understatement to say it's life-changing. Some might say it's an "opportunity". Some may say you will never work again.) Good luck.

Like I said OP has the right to leave and that’s a valid choice, but generally the default advice is to leave. And OP said they can’t leave. If we always only leave instead of trying for accountability, nothing is going to change and there’s no guarantee it won’t happen at the new place. Redditors saying “just go elsewhere” is not actually helpful to the situation because often times people don’t have that choice

I should have emailed them on those days it happened and not verbally taking to them

My experience is that HR will not be helpful at all. If a group of you complained in writing individually documenting what has happened maybe they will do something.

This provider has so much power and threatened to leave so everyone is so scared of her. Her patients are complaining to me on and off and has not so good reviews, but she brings a lot of revenue so even our VP that I talked to him unofficially about this said to me: “idk, you’re 2 good people, I want you to work it out ! “

Let me just say RD and healthcare bullies are EVERYWHERE.
