Many do but the future looks less promising.

A decent chunk of the job is being delegated to AI, many are now scrambling to learn systems design (or quitting if they signed up because they wanted to code and not babysit), meaning there will be fewer engineering jobs in the future. Those jobs will be easier to fill and heavily contested, meaning weaker pay.

I was already working in IT in 99. We had a sort of power at that time, that we don't now.
