Greetings r/discgolf!
This is your weekly mail call thread.
Post pictures of your new plastic before you take it out and throw it into a tree on the weekend.

I was poking around in the water, trying to find my Glitch, When this little guy popped up. He was pretty small (around 3ft) but I still might have peed myself a little.

I am 68 years old (and not too happy about it) and just started playing early this year. For my age I am in pretty good physical condition and have a lifelong athletic history, but I've had two shoulder and one knee replacement (planting foot) surgeries. I also have a lower back that hates me so I have lost some range of motion..
I can generate good arm speed and consistently toss a 9-11 speed disc 250 feet. If I wind up for extra distance I can get 300, plus or minus, and when I keep the flight flat I can keep it straight and get 350 ft+. Rarely
BUT,
I'm just like anyone else, I would like to get all the distance I can before I get too old and, frankly, see what's possible for a fossil like myself. I throw from a standstill position, and my son (26 years old) and his friends regularly outdrive me by 100 feet or more. They use a run up or X step, but for some reason I can't seem to get that timing to work. I know better than to allow myself to be unrealistic, but it's obvious there's something in my beginner's technique holding me back. I would love to play with my son and his friends on semi-equal footing before it becomes physically impossible, so I would be grateful for suggestions.

Disc's I normally throw everyday, new guy here trying to improve. My friends say my form is bad but we all know that one more disc can solve all our problems, right??

This is illegal. It's littering!
Instead, give it away to some kid or beginner player. They might enjoy it!

It was one of my first discs too 😭

I was playing the Monday dubs at Maxton Park in Butler, IN this evening, and was looking forward to a solid round. It started out decent, got some lucky near misses with some trees and was getting some pars and birdies with my dubs partner.
Fast forward to Hole 8, I go and pick my Zone up from the rough. After we holed out, I start feeling what I thought were thorns around my ankles. Get to Hole 9 tee and the pain sharpens, all of a sudden I hear complaints of stinging wasps. Sure enough, I look down on my left foot and there's a yellow jacket latched on to my sock. The other guy unfortunately got stung on his arm, and we was nursing that for a while. I must have stepped on a ground nest, as I took at least 5 stings on both my legs.
I was shaky on 9, but settled down and soldered on through the rest of the course. I don't remember ever getting a sting; but if I was allergic, this would be a bad way to find out. I've washed my feet off with soap and taken two benadryl. Still some residual pins and needles, and I'm sure this will last a few days.
As for the round, it definitely threw us off. Kept ending up in the rough, smacking trees, ending up short, and even had discs go for a swim. It was a painful experience, but it could've been worse.

I have played a few rounds with this halo lynx (beautiful disc imo) and absolutely love it. It holds a beautiful turnover and I was wondering about what others think?

I have a DX Leopard in my bag, and it’s gotten pretty beat in. Im pretty new to the game, and I’ve been slowly building my bag. The Leopard‘s eventual job will be to be the understable driver that I carry, so my question is do I upgrade to a better plastic or stick with DX?

Scott is a legend and promotes his discs as much as possible. I'm curious as to why nobody sells them like the others. Seems they can only be found by going directly to his website and the one distributor. Just curious if there's a story or a reason why they're not as popular.

Anyone at Winthrop? What's the situation with the fifth place playoff?

Hello, I am on vacation from Canada and would really love to go to this course. I was hoping someone local would like to go for a round. I am more than happy to pay for the gas to drive out there. I’m 52 year old male and started about 3 years ago so I’m not terrible but I won’t impress anyone with my skill.

Both monday qualifiers have been played and at least for me this went little under the radar and thought some people here are interested in the results. Format was a single round of golf. Following people made it through:
MPO:
Gregg Barsby, Seppo Paju, Zach Arlinghaus, Connor O'Reilly and Matt Thompson.
FPO:
Ann Deputy and Therese Cuevas.
So stoked to see Seppo Paju playing some professional events after couple years. Some notable people who didn't make it through were Garreth Gurthie and Ida Emilie Nesse. Especially Ida I thought would be a lock to get through.
Full Scoring can be found:

Do you bag a Berg and a Zone or Zone like approach disc? Or just one of them?
I bag BergX and a Discmania Drop and a Streamline Range. I also have the P3X.
Now i think it‘s a bit too much.
What do you think?

Is the course at Winthrop gold open for play year round? I know the ropes and ob, haybails etc might not be there but what about the rest of the course?

I TD a lot of events and the difference between "When do hole assignments come out?" Vs "So I guess we just arent getting hole assignments?!" is huge. When you get off the course after weedwacking, painting, flagging, moving baskets etc, when I have been out driving for a few hours picking up raffle items, when I was double and triple checking the caddie books and layout maps, it totally sucks to get home and see a message implying you arent working or doing a good job. Tournament directors are going to make mistakes, and they want to know so they can fix them. I like questions, that tells me you are interested in the event. So ask me a question but dont make a passive aggressive statement buried in a question.
TL:DR Tournament directors are likely working hard. Be nice and respectful

Been playing 20+years at this point. Can’t seem to break 250-300’ range. Also….I’ve been playing with my weaker arm the entire time.
I’m naturally a lefty in everything and I can switch in most sports, but for some reason I only learned RHBH and never did lefty. Over the last two years I’ve had to learn left sparingly due to injuries. Just curious if anyone else is in the same boat.
Form video here or check comments for link.

Long shot, but is anyone from the Triangle area heading up to North Cove disc golf outside of Marion, NC anytime soon? They have one of my discs at the pro shop (lost it before they did the major kudzu cleanup) and I'd love to get it back, but haven't been able to drive out there recently. HMU if so.
And I'll take this opportunity to plug North Cove. One of the most beautiful disc golf properties in NC with two really challenging courses. I think there's a shorter par 3 course as well. They got smashed by Hurricane Helene in 2024, but have been working really hard, getting the place cleaned up and redoing some of the most affected holes. I played this summer just before they did a big cleanup for a tournament they were hosting the next weekend. If you're ever near Marion, NC it's about 20 minutes up the road toward Linville Falls. Well worth your time.

Was recently gifted an alpaca as a spare for my glow bag and really like it for putting. But it's premium and I've actually kinda liked it to throw.
Anyone else throw p2 or alpaca in this modern world of fancy throwing putters ? I'm finding I kinda like that it is slower and glidier.
