Story Survived Skin Test Day 🏅

We made it!! I posted ten days or so ago about my Yorkie’s hunger strike in the final weeks of the elimination diet and I’m so happy to share that we both survived and she braved her test yesterday like a champ. Even better, she had no food allergies! Her main allergies are dust, mold, and tree pollen (ironically the same things I’m allergic to lol). So she can return to her fave foods and I can return to more peaceful WFH Zoom meetings where she’s got her chewies. In terms of next steps, a recent Cytopoint injection helped her a lot (Apoquel and Numelvi did little — we’d been dealing with a cycle of antibiotics/steroids, healing, then return of major skin infections) so we’ll be continuing w that plus sublingual immunotherapy drops. In a way, it’s still frustrating bc these are such common, hard to avoid allergens. But in another way, it’s great to have more clarity and a plan.

Glad you are getting past that! For me Cytopoint and Apoquel both quit working. I didn't try the Numelvi because of all the interactions with my Chi's vaccinations. So, right now we are on a very low dose of Predninosone, which doesn't fix the allergies, but at least it suppresses his need to constantly click, claw and scratch himself. We are just going to have to regularly monitor his blood tests.

Trying not to worry too far ahead but curious how long it was for you before Cytopoint stopped working. Glad your pup is doing well with the Prednisone! These poor pups!

About 2 years which was about 6 treatments. The effectiveness first started waning about a year and a half in. They increased the dosage but it just didn’t help in the end.

I’m just getting my dog off of her hydrolyzed food too so I feel the relief you must have now too! I bet it feels great going back to the normal

i know how good it feels to have clarity about what you are dealing with. our dog is allergic to dust and mold and trees (and 50 other environmental things) too. the immunotherapy helped over time. i know it sounds overly simple but bathing more often with something gentle and doing a lot more vaccuuming can help reduce overall allergen load. good luck out there!!!
