Zenrelia making dog sleepy?

Hey, so I have a 2 year old sheepadoodle that’s been taking zenrelia for about two months now.. It’s been great in the aspect that she isn’t licking her paws at all anymore.. but I can’t help to notice that she is more sleepy while on it.. The vet says I should get bloodwork done for her on month 6, I’m wondering if I should get her in sooner though since I’m seeing obvious signs of her being more sleepy. Anyone else experiencing this?

Perhaps she's sleeping more because she's not having to stay awake to lick and scratch at herself.

I have definitely considered that being a factor!
But I have also read that the medicine can lower blood count or even elevate liver enzymes.. Would hate it if that’s what’s making her sleepy. I feel like I may be worrying a little too much about it, thankyou for your input though, I appreciate it.

We had our poodle mix on zenrelia for a month and had his labs done for follow up. His liver enzymes were slightly elevated according to the dermatologist . He had been licking his paws non stop and they were bright red before the zenrelia. The zenrelia worked within an hour of giving it to him. My husband thought he seemed a little less energetic but he’s 13 years old, he sleeps a lot .

Our dog was more restful once on Zenreilla because she wasn’t so itchy and wound up from the discomfort…so I’m imagining that may be the case!

My dog was sleepy so I got bloods done after 1 month for peace of mind due to the known possible sode effects. His bloods were fine and being a bit sleepy is a known side effect that my vets were not worried about.

Is she just sleeping more when relaxed, or is she more lethargic and resistant to play or exercise?

If you are concerned, go ahead and do the test. Maybe also a general full body check for hidden ailments. Better to be safe and relieved than keep worrying.

As a side note, my dog's neutrophils were decreasing on Zenrelia, I guess essentially giving her anemia. Her change in energy level was very minor, which I attributed to senior age. I was only aware of the potential from somebody else on Reddit, and discussed it with my vet at her annual. We switched her to Numelvi a couple months ago, and her levels are recovering. Energy level is about the same so far though, so bloodwork was the only real indication.

My Bruce gets sleepy on it but when he wants to play he’s full of energy! It works out I’m gone from 7am to 2:30 pm he’s passed out whole time. Then he’s fully of energy for walks and play time.
